These days, pretty sure you can get induction (or electric) cookers with pretty big built-in batteries that are made to handle an hour or two of heavy draw per day without added stress to the system—could be worth looking into

I think my (somewhat strong) preference for gas is rooted in some of my favorite pots & pans not having fully flat bottoms. A small saucier will operate very differently if it’s only heated from the bottom; a wok won’t operate at all. That said, I’m sure that when we inevitably do make the switch to induction, it’ll just take a year or two to forget I ever had any complaints

It seems like they went through a pretty significant rebranding around 3–5 years ago, from more general (non-repro) workwear to more modern streetwear / workwear, with wider cuts / sleeker details / a pretty big price increase I’ve been tempted to try them out a few times -
Size 3 in the 132 should work well for you

I’m not happy about the tariffs, for any number of reasons—but the yen is more than 15% weaker now, relative to the dollar, than it was when I first started buying most of my clothes from Yahoo + Mercari. I felt like I was getting a great deal, then, and I’m pretty sure I’ll still feel like I’m getting a great deal if I have to start paying 15% more again now. We’ve been spoiled for the last few years. I’m maybe less likely to buy new clothes at full MSRP, but I already didn’t do a ton of that. I mostly just wish the extra tax was going to a decent cause. -

@chicote Thanks! Just one dip, I think, although I wasn’t party. The powdered indigo is probably from Dharma Trading Co. This was both of our first times’ dyeing with indigo (all I did was an old spare pillow case). The vat reeks, but once the fabrics dry they smell fantastic.

I’m around 2017–2018, I had some pretty bad experiences with a pair (actually, with two pairs) of the RARE R008 jeans that left me with a nasty taste in my mouth, but I always really wanted to like Big John and to believe that I’d just gotten unlucky. Anyway, I’m finally giving them another try. They recently released a slew of things in a duck and a chino both made fully from Sally Fox’s naturally colored cotton. I’ve probably posted about it before, but: Although I’ve never actually met Sally, her main plot of land is right next to the farm that I worked for through a lot of my 20s, in a great Northern California Valley that I hold close to home—so, even beyond its intrinsic coolness factor, I’ve always been really drawn to everything I see that’s made from her cotton. These are the XX801S (41) “XX EXTRA CHINOS TROUSER CLASSIC”. I bought them from joenet.co.jp, which I’d never heard of before, but who were very helpful over email and were quick to ship. (The Big John web store does offer direct international shipping, but with an egregious markup.) They’re a true wide–straight fit, and I’m expecting to need to take around 2” off the hems unless they shrink quite a bit—they’re in the wash now, so we’ll see soon. Here’s the initial fit, feat. My partner inherited my lot 501 Edo Ai a while ago, but never ended up wearing them much, I guess because of how loud they were—mostly the streaky dye job. Recently, they bleached them and overdyed with indigo, hoping to end up with a more consistent color. I’m really pleased with how they turned out: hopefully they’ll end up seeing some more wear again

@PrettyBoyTony I can’t speak to what to expect from the cut in general since I’ve never tried a pair, but based on that photo you posted of them drying it looks like they’re a couple sizes bigger than your TCBs pretty much everywhere? You might be happier with the fit through the seat if you sized down some

They stretch a lot in the waist, but yeah if you’re a 32 in modern Cane’s you’ll prob. be happiest with a 33

I’m surprised yours had any ink left on it at all. I love the feeling of the patch on mine—the leather’s stayed super buttery soft and shiny without any sort of care—but there hasn’t been any discernible printing on it since like wash #2
