@conqueror very nice... what is the book called?
  2. Haha this one's her sister's foss. Jane and Janet were twins and Jane got jealous of Janet's foss. She made a wish at the wishing tree and voila an identical foss emerged which she named after herself. That's what I heard anyway
  3. My next advertisement for the Yorkshire tourist board... Malham Cove - quite an imposing white limestone cliff and the focal point of a short 8km hike about an hour's drive from home Jane's Foss Totally staged photo for Sufu purposes Malham Cove Junior MJF9 getting a bit close to the edge as usual Sadly we missed the Harry Potter partee Indigo dyed tractor, possibly

    Denime

@beautiful_FrEaK that denim is definitely appealing so I was curious... alas the 52s would be too small / a crush post wash so will pass. Maybe the seller will split them if they don't sell as a pair @Bobbo how are your 37s coming along pal?

Thanks BF... I was thinking about the actual individual measurements? Ideal if the originals are available (tho noted it's been a long time!).. if not do you know the most likely approximate charts for each? Cheers

What measurements could be expected on these two pairs @beautiful_FrEaK?
  7. Squally skies for a hike with Junior MJF9 near Kirkham Priory in the Howardian Hills, North Yorkshire I'm using the 10 Adventure app to find decent walks within a reasonable radius of home. And the Met Office weather forecasts to select a location to try to dodge the rain!! And there was denim involved... FW 1922, FW 1937 rolled up, Buaisou, Rototo, Darn Tuff and muddy Solomon

    Buaisou

Buaisou – for those unfamiliar, the best way to find out more is through the website and Instagram. There are some great shots of both their process and products on their Instagram. To get the thread started, this is what they say about themselves… “To thrive in the hometown of indigo dye, BUAISOU was established in Kamiita-cho, Tokushima Prefecture in 2015. All processes, which were traditionally divided into separate specializations, are carried out within BUAISOU; from cultivating the raw indigo, fermenting the indigo leaves (Sukumo), dyeing, designing, all the way to production. We also make efforts in introducing the charm of natural indigo through offering workshops and other various activities. Indigo dyeing is characterized by deep beautiful color and fastness. This is achieved using only indigo leaves, lye, bran, and shell lime. In 2018, we were able to realize our original dream of making indigo-dyed jeans, with each skein of yarn hand-dyed one by one. In the future, our goal is to grow and weave cotton and manufacture jeans using vintage sewing machines”. I notice that the last part – “and manufacture jeans using vintage sewing machines” - was appended after May 2022. They acquired Roy’s old sewing machines which is likely to have enabled this change in ambition. Roy himself paid them a visit in Q1 2023 and in this post he watched them “dyeing skeins of ring-spun cotton yarn that will soon be driven over to the nearby mill, and woven into the most beautiful denim I've ever seen”. So, the journey has started but there is some way to go… I can’t see this thread being the most active for different reasons. However, I know there are a few Sufu regulars with items and interest… so let’s give it a whirl and see what we can collectively muster...
  11. Do tell more Maynard...
  12. All good mate... interestingly the Freewheelers WW2 rises work for me - once the jeans drape they're great. Depends what you like or are used to, of course - I'm in the high-rise camp so the Rockets are unlikely for me on that basis only. The lowest rise I have is my Tender 134s which I like wearing beltless for that reason.
  13. Looking very nice @DC2020 Rockets have been very helpful and chatty. Regarding sizing, they said "501XX(1947) has a front rise of 32cm and a rear rise of 42cm. Our company has made the back rise 1.5-2cm shallower than the 501XX(1947)." So it could be inferred Rockets have tweaked the measurements based on the vintage references they had in hand for fit purposes. Definitely the opposite end of back rise scale to Freewheelers which is markedly high - can't remember if they based theirs on a WW2 original - can anyone recall? Rockets also said they have previously done a 37 model using the same measurements as the WW2. They plan to have a run again. Pics are of their 37s - liking the denim
  14. Got them from Rockets - for a size 34 one wash waist/87.5cm crossing width /33.5cm front rise/32cm hem width/23cm length/81cm back rise 40cm (I had to ask specifically for this) Rockets back rise is on the lower end of the spectrum to the Freewheelers WW2 jeans. Just measured mine at a whopping 49cm. Would there have been that much difference in measurements for jeans actually made during WW2? Repro'ing the features (buttons, pocket bags et al) obviously matters but so does proportion. Maybe the repro's we're seeing now do represent the range of proportion at the time; or maybe they don't and there is some artistic license. Anyone know?
  15. @DC2020 the Rockets look really good from afar and you landed at solid fit to boot. I noticed the measurements don't include the back rise... how is that? If you have time, would be interested in back rise measurement / waist for comparison
  16. So I'm going to post a new sweatshirt but have not worked out which thread Vintage sweatshirts won't do as it's not vintage Unknown Japanese brands - can't find it, plus they are not unknown Do we have a New Sweatshirts thread? If not, should I open one up? Calling resident Sufu librarian @Maynard Friedman for input on existing threads!!
  17. Nice pick ups... surely some dungaree fit pics are in order!!
  18. Not today but quite recently... A Cape Town post deserves the mesmerising, omnipresent Table Mountain Street art in the Woodstock district... Hendrik Verwoerd, ex-South Africa Prime Minister, the architect of apartheid. Stabbed to death in parliament in 1966. One piece of art showing two faces depending where you view it from. Disgraceful that apartheid is still thriving elsewhere. And some denim… Modern day Cape Town on a Saturday afternoon at the Old Biscuit Mill
  19. Do Austrian's not match their belt and shoes then??
  20. Home truths...surely this dude is even pushing germanic boundaries!!
  21. Matey socks and Birks ftw! A quintessential German look, nicht war??
  22. ^ yeah agreed... noting that after the 40C wash the 22 is now a touch snugger Ooms. However I've been wearing the 37 jeans (same denim) for a few days and it expands quite a bit so, with enough wear, both the 22 and 33 jackets should do that too. The factory wash seemed to maximise shrink on the 33 - presumably the 'wash' version is actually a 'wash and industrial dry' job.
  23. I haven't washed my washed version. My sense was the factory did the job and I wouldn't expect more shrink at 40C. @Duke Mantee @Broark may know more?
