  1. @ChemProfJSpencer Cone Mills made the denim for levis 501xx exclusively from 1922 onwards. The Cone denim used back then had a lot more character, such as your neppy feel with slubs and loom chatter. The denim changed three times, once in the mid 1950s (a lighter blue dye it seems), mid 70's (sulphur dye technique was briefly introduced) and again in 1984 when the selvedge disappeared and the denim became more fluffier/bulkier, but had pretty much lost all that character by then. (As for the denim being a flaw, l've not seen evidence to support it).

The introduction of repros from the mid 1990s aimed to rectify that, trying to get denim made that replicated that character. And here we are 30 odd years later with an array of manufacturers and different denims doing just that!

    Hope that helps?

I messaged Ryo abt a year ago on Instagram and they said that sadly they were not interested in doing an 80s redline repro. It’s a mystery to me though why almost no brands repro this model, only the LVC version comes to mind.

No mystery. The reason is that by 1980, for most vintage denim enthusiasts, the denim and details on vintage examples (which are then repro'd) are pretty much 'meh'.

And the lvc version is a good example of why: bland and boring at best.

    Thanks guys! 😊

@Dr_Heech well that's not really the plan right. Maybe it's another boy and we don't need much new stuff anyway. We will see 😊 by the way, I don't think I have stuff you would be interested in anyway 😉

Oh l'm not looking to buy, got those FW42's in my crosshairs but that's about it for me atm. Just know what it's like sometimes with a newborn and money can get tight, just figured you may have a purge(?)

Wish you all the best with the journey ahead and can l put those kids Wrangler jeans aside for you? (jk)

It was shite - everything I owned was too loose, too tight, loo long or too short.

And in all in black and white too

WW2 fabric … new thread though

Could you broaden your answer mate? Was lucky enough to see that beautiful WW2 fabric in Soas recently (albeit with cut off red tags) so am curious to know is the new thread sewing thread or is it the warp/weft aspect?

I am waering the one from you, the sc one maybe next :P

I like the SC one but just one red tag is missing :D

Why not take the Piece tag off when the jacket becomes threadbare and sew it onto the SC jacket?

  7. @superfuture Here^ is a good example of what myself and @Geeman were discussing when using the upload tool. 2 of the 3 pics are on their side, which were not intentional. When l saw they were on their side in the preview, l went back to my photo gallery and compensated by preemptively moving them once round in preparation. This had no effect so l am stumped, maybe it's just a case of Computer says No.

  8. At last my CSF 1941 s409xxx model have finally been hemmed so they can now return to the rotation of jeans of which l enjoy wearing. @Mr Black did an outstanding job as usual even going so far as to replicate the dual orange/yellow stitching on the original hems. Photos show Og hem off cuts compared to freshly sewn new hems. Compared to the other pair l have (1944 s409xxx) these are much darker but my modern camera phone just can't capture it, even under cloudy skies. Probably due to my lack of understanding of modern phones but anyway you get the general idea.

What about the lovechild of Sean Penn and Gary Oldman in the 3rd photo? Is he an LVC model, a late 19th century futurist or a mid-20th century dude in an old jacket?

Looks more like a Robert Deniro and Jean Reno cross breed to me 🤣
