  1. I am also looking for a bag for spring. Something like the Prada style flat bags. I would like to be able to attach it around my waist. The best one I have found so far is this roots bag.

which I do like but I would like to find something a little less common here in alberta and maybe something with a bit more style to it.

  2. Well if you want to stand out among your peers in school but still want the best vest out there hunt for a north face vest that is circa 2001 or older. you can tell the difference because the newer nuptse have an arched shoulder panel and the old ones have a straight line across. Also all the old nuptses are in two tones with black and pretty primary colours. Apart from that the MEC one is a nice budget choice and if you want to kick it up a notch and are not afraid to order stuff overseas go with the sugarcane vests they are super sexy. http://mil-mil.net/sugarcane/jacket/sc11159/sc11159.html

  3. my understanding is, and please correct me if I am wrong

that straight razors are bad for your skin.

the reason why I use a Gillette Fusion is that it is the least irritating for my skin.

if using a straight razor, or one of these, is better then I will switch over.

The problem with cartridge razors is that they breed bacteria and are way to hard to keep clean between such tightly set blades. I switched from a mach 3 down to cheapo twin blade razors that I felt fine throwing out every two shaves and noticed a drastic improvement in my skins health. I would imagine that a straight razors is much easier to keep clean and sanitize than a cartidge razor. I straight razor would give you much more control and handling around your face. I am still scared of them though.

  4. I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving

Am I the only Apoc. Now, Marlon Brando fan? :P:P:P

Straight razor eh? I have thought about it... but it seems a bit scary as well.

  5. Those look spicy. Maybe you need some help from fellow Canadians to help spread the denim new and wear your jeans as promotions in other Canadian cities. I will help if they are as sweet as they look in your pictures. I like the x bar tacking in the back looks, I am a big fan of lees that is why I like the x bar tacking.

  6. Sorry I should clarify. I don't think the premise for the thread is ridiculous but the logic behind and argument advocating online purchasing(rakutan/mil-mil etc) VS Selvedge/Big/bluegreen etc is flawed.

The value of being able to try on and feel clothing as well as a store's employees, lease, insurance, tax, duty and tariffs, as well as stocking and loss expenses; more than accounts for the price difference you would see between online purchases and in person retail stores.

As a PS I have been charged duty on jeans purchased overseas and sometimes I have not it seems very hit and miss. When I have been charged duty on jeans from overseas it is about 30% you can find a duty calculator on the revenue canada website clothing is one of the highest duties for us.

  7. I can vouch for most of Mr. Anderson's street cred (in that he wears these jeans to the max and does not give a rat's about them) I doubt that anyone else has the amount of wear on a pair of AIs that Nole does. I cannot vouch for him living in Vancouver, because he does not he is more transient than anything.

The threads that are coming out are very interesting looking and look kind of like pantyhose. His jeans have come a long pretty well but I guess that is what happens when you wear them doing everything from construction to sleeping to probably even swimming.

  8. I think the premise of this thread is completely ridiculous. I have ordered denim online from Japan and from the SUFu market and it is not easy and also stressful for sizing.

The service that Kiya offers at Selvedge is well worth it. Get serious, where are you gonna try on a pair of ironhearts or even canes for that matter, or any of the japanese brands. I don't understand why someone would come on here to complain about US retail prices on japanese denim. I think what the big problem is that "someone" would like to get the same good deal of internet shopping but also have the luxury of being able to try the jeans on before they buy them.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, get over it.

  9. When the Levis suit went down there were a much of leather patches that had to come off as well yeah? I have a couple of craft projects I want to try out and some leather patches would be perfect. Any retails that have some I would like to buy.

Also if anyone else might know of how to get a hold of some thick leather patches from jeans I would be willing to buy them.

PS. I am not putting the patches on jeans.

  10. OK well unlike some of these Sufu I am no going to encourage you. It is inevitable that your jeans will be washed and should be washed at some point in their life. If you have to wear them wet to keep the waist from shrinking too much then do so. but you need to soak those. Also what is the inseam now? What is your inseam you need? Maybe soaking is not an option if the inseam is going to get to short.

Anyway yes you need to soak them.

  11. I remember in grade 4 going to "Fort Edmonton Park" (an old trading fort for the Hudson Bay Company, I believe) they said that urine was used to set certain dyes. But it had to be prepubescent boy's.

So, your jeans may never fade.....

Ahh Fort Edmonton Park. Don't jump on the trolly whiles it's moving or the old time'ies freak out.

  12. The fit looks nice now but it seems like you already have a bit of room in the waist and seat. I would size down one size in the waist if you can. The length looks fine to me although it almost seems too wide in the leg to stack without getting stomped by your shoes. If they will sit up n your shoes I think the ammount they would sack would look just fine.

  13. What is this new craze I have seen with people having huge aversions to hemming? Get them hemmed then they will be the length you want them to be.

I understand the fear of having something hemmed and it not fitting the way it should on someone taller than you. But hemming is OK And it is not like people are getting their bell bottoms hemmed how much difference could it make on straight leg jeans.

Long story short hem them if you want them to fit you better.

  14. My first post is in regards to the ridiculousness of your question with out having to be flat out blunt about it.

They will stretch. How much in a year? Who knows. How much weight will you gain this year? what climate do you live in? what activity do you do in them? Will you ever get caught in the rain with them on? What is normal? Will you wear a belt?

All denim stretches, there is no gauge on how much a certain pair of jeans will stretch because all wearing and wearer situations are different. Like I said before you can adjust the fit with hot and cold soaks as well as drying techniques. I would not worry about setting up some sort of ultimatum like "I am not washing for one year, now how much will my jeans stretch". Washing your jeans is good for them just use a gentle soap, preferably hand wash them and hang to dry.

  15. two or seven ... but never twice.

I kid, i kid. They stretch almost all denim does, but washing shrinks them back. You have to play with wearing them and washing to keep the fit where you want it. If you are talking just regular old levis I would get them tight but not so tight you can't do them up.
