To clarify, I was made a moderator but by that time the air had started to go out of the balloon & the end felt inevitable.

Yeah. Me too. The extra inch of rise outweighs all other aspects for me. I'm also going for the full inseam in the hope of achieving 'Gary Cooper High Noon pineapple chunk turnups', as one of my school chums described them.

My favorite denim remains the Sugar Cane Lee repros from the late 90s. I've never seen anything to compare with it. And the magic feeling of walking into a store in Japan & realizing these kind of jeans existed...Priceless. I also rate highly the custom pair I had made by Iu of Companion Denim in Spain. I chose a heavy denim, 18 or 19 oz. It's aged really nicely & doesn't come across as a trendy slub-monster.

So I got a reply. 2 sizes = 2 inches (as most would tend to do with raw unsanforized. I was confused. Because I'm 36(ish) I thought S was suggesting going up to 40... It all makes more sense now. I dunno. Might still go for 40 😝

So the organizers have kindly allowed me to squeak in as a contestant & consequently I won't be judging. I'm leaning to the 50s model because of the higher rise. Still trying to figure out sizing. Simone's advice on going up by 2 sizes vs Tilmann's sample pair stretching back to the raw waist measurement is severely testing my decision making capabilities... In any case I'm very happy to be a part of this with you all!

Damn! I really don't need more jeans but it's so tempting...

Yes. Still one of my favorite fits. High rise but less hip flare than most of that style. I sometimes consider having mine repaired by a chainstitch expert.

Didn't some of some of the Japanese brands used to sell jeans pre faded like that? Supposedly they were replicas of vintage examples worn by cow ropers who I guess spent a lot of time in a deep squat stance, bracing against the cow they had lassoed, hence the heavy creasing & fading on the backs of the knees.

Those look excellent. I see there's a matching jacket too.

A friend of mine (an upright bass player) had one of those, and spoke highly of it. Sadly it got wrecked. He was heartbroken.

You know, with the right belt......

Oh dear! Sorry to hear that Shredwin. Hopefully it's not some sort of emergency on Mike's part. I can't imagine him stopping communication like that unless it was something serious. I was considering a jeans/jacket combo in that fabric, but got cold feet, thinking about the pile of denim already existing on my closet. Of course in the meantime I've bought more jeans/jackets...

He'd just made some very cool loomstate jeans last time I visited him. I got the impression you were getting a pair of those, Shredwin?

What year is your tractor, Buler? It looks much newer than mine but the dash is almost identical.

Predicting 109 in Bakersfield tomorrow. 🥵 We won't be that hot as we're a bit higher elevation. Crazy though.

Thanks, Dr_Heech.

So this happened last week... Went outside with the dogs & saw this on the neighboring property. No one lives there but the people had come to mow the perimeter (required by law). Likely their mower blade hit a rock & sparked (apparently they had some remote controlled device). Could also have been an electrical spark. Luckily the wind was blowing away from us although we had all the pets in our vehicles ready to go. Fire crews arrived promptly, all by road rather than air although a plane did fly over to observe at one point. There is a house on the property which was spared. They lost two junk trailers which the fire crews kept a close eye on. The wind took the fire across to another property where no structures were damaged but much of the land was blackened. Once the trailers had burned down the crews made sure all hot spots were extinguished This was a second spot where I could see flames. I went & called them over but I expect they were aware. Later that night we walked around to inspect the overall damage & scope of the burn. And the day after. One of the things I found interesting was that the undergrowth had burned while the taller weeds were still present. I guess the straw/hay type dead growth burns so fast that the fire wave quickly passes by anything green. Needless to say we were relieved & thankful that our place didn't sustain any damage. Hard to say what would have happened had the wind been blowing in our direction. I had mowed a pretty wide firebreak which should have been adequate to stop the spread. This was the closest fire we had ever experienced.

Reminds me of that comedy song 'The Rochdale Cowboy'. "All the people laugh as I ride past on our Alsatian dog".
