  1. Thanks for the feedback. Another bit of information I should disclose is that the lining on the inside of the boot also bunched up where the creasing was on the outside. This was really aggravating my foot and made the left boot practically unwearable.

I have already had a cobbler pull the lining tight to smooth it out on the inside, and while it relieved some of the discomfort it still persists after longer wear. I suspect that it is because while the lining is tight, the upper is still loose so the creases are causing pressure points. I'm no boot maker but it is a logical explanation.

I should also note that the lining and upper on the right boot are tight and smooth on the inside and outside. I would expect the same quality of finish on the left boot.

  2. @Peter Parker.

Your left shoe or boot will usually get more creases and wear down quicker than you right shoe, mainly because of getting in and out of your car. You scrape and bend the left shoe getting in, and it has a tendency to wear down especially leather soled shoes/boots. At least this is what the guy at the boot shop told me when I had to get some boots resoled.

Now, if you don't drive, or perhaps have a right hand drive car, everything I just said can be thrown to the side and forgotten, haha.

I'd say your boots looks pretty normal for the wear, and overall very nice.

There's only a couple days worth of wear on the boots. I've driven maybe twice in them. If the boots had a year's worth of wear on them, your explanation would make sense. I'm not concerned about the cosmetics of the creasing, but rather the discomfort that results from the creasing. The right boot, which has much less creasing, does not give me any problems; whereas the left boot causes pain in the knuckle of my toe after a bit of walking.

  3. Question about creasing on boots:

Is the amount of creasing on the left boot shown here considered normal?

    img0580q.jpg

    img0581r.jpg

Both the left and right have the same amount of wear on them. As can be seen, the creasing on the left boot clearly shows where the toe cap is and is much more pronounced in general.

Is this a manufacturing defect where the leather was not pulled tight enough on the last when the boot was made?

If so, is there anything that can be done to repair the boot?

  4. My true size is 34.5~35. I got my APC NS in size 30 which is actually 32, 2.5 inches smaller than my actual. They have stretched out to my actual waist size. I am pretty sure that worked out for me.

I am sorry I am not familiar with the jeans that you own but do you have any APC? I have only ever heard to size down on APC, not go tts.

Don't be confused by the "relative to APC" sizing. As I've already told you, follow these instructions and you'll be fine:

Assuming that your APC's fit well in the waist, measure the waist on them. I'd recommend that you get the SL's in the size that measures 0.5"-1" less in the waist than your APC's.
  5. I should have clarified that I bought the 31's with 5 months wear on them already by the previous owner. I have only put about a week's worth of wear on them, but I'm sure they had already stretched some from the previous owner's wear.

And for reference, my other pairs of raw denim stretched to their limit within a week's wear.

  6. Naturally, they'll stretch an inch at most. My one-wash 31's still measure less than 32", even after about a week's wear. I also got the one-wash in 32 for my brother, but had to stretch out the waist with a spreader clamp to get it past 32.5".

The raw version may be more forgiving, but the one-wash version brings the pain.

  7. How soft is the hand on those 9301's? Is it as soft as everyone is saying?

And what about the top block? I'm thinking of a size 29 or a 30??? I wear a 28 in 710bk Sam's. I like them skinny, but, not ankle grabbing!

I don't exactly know what is meant by a soft hand, but the word "armor" comes to mind when describing the 9301 denim. It is rigid and the weave is coarse, so it does feel a little rough.

The top block on these is generous, relative to the thighs and knees. There isn't really a consensus on sizing (some have gone true to size, sized down 1, sized down 2). It all depends on your bodily proportions. I sized down one (true waist 32, tagged 31). I am happy with the fit:

    IH 9301, size 31. True waist 32.

  8. I have HUGE thighs! They are 12.0 but I somehow fit a 11.75. Thats why the crotch blew out that fast. The buttons popped off cuz the waist was so tight that one day when I was putting them on one button popped. After awhile all the buttons popped off.

They didn't look that tight from the fit pics you posted, but I guess that would cause a premature crotchsplode on most jeans. I'd be surprised if you could fit in them after the wash; mine shrunk about 0.25" all around after after I soaked them, most noticeably in the thighs.

  9. My N&F Weird Guy Deep Indigo@ 5.5 months before wash:

    S7302252-1.jpg

    After the wash:

    S7302291.jpg

    Never biked in them before.

How the hell did you do that much damage to the crotch and fly in 5 months? I've put about 4 months wear on my Deep Indigos and no signs of crotch blowout or popped fly buttons. You must:

    a) have freakishly large genitals

    B) grind your crotch against sandpaper for a living

    c) pee on yourself a lot

    d) all of the above

  10. My best fiting jeans (lvc 47 raw) are tagged 32" and measure 32" Big style after many washes and wear. My thighs are about 22" at thickest part. What size should i go for in the 811 for a regular - slim fit ? Thinking a 30 or 31 ?

Your measurements are the same as mine. For a regular slim fit, go TTS (32) in one-wash (see my post yesterday for fit pictures). If you're getting them in raw, you could probably go with a 31 but soak cautiously. If you want a really slim fit, then size down (see my fit pics in this thread).

  11. is there any place online to buy 811s beside BiG? i could go with my true size 32, but i kind of wanna size up one and BiG doesn't have 33 in stock

apc ns - 30 (perfect fit)

    skull 5010xx - 31 (a bit snug, but still a good fit)

edit: i'm an idiot, didn't see the exact same question ^up there

this thread is done to death about ordering true to size, but given my other jeans, is a 32 in the 811s slimmer or looser than 30 in APC NS?

looking for a fit like this

    eter769.jpg

    kthx

The fit you posted looks pretty loose. If that's what you're going for, then 33 is probably the right size; however, I'd suggest going true-to-size. I think we're about the same size because I'd take the same size for APC and Skulls as what you mentioned (FYI I'm 5'9" 160lbs). I don't own a pair of APC NS, but I have a pair of 3sixteen SL's, which is a similar cut to the NS. I'd say the 811's true-to-size are slimmer than the SL's, but I'll let you be the judge of that:

    Eternal 811 Tagged 32 (one-wash)

    img0392m.jpgimg0395c.jpg

    3sixteen SL-100x Tagged 30 (Lot 001, washed once)

    img0449s.jpgimg0451zrd.jpg

*edit: FYI, I ended up sizing down to a 31 for my 811's.

  12. Inefficient drivers who don't know how to pass the bus during rush hour; instead, they stay in the middle lanes so people behind them can't get ahead of the bus, rendering the right lane useless and me stuck behind an incompetent driver or a bus. (Fastest possible commute concept)

  13. Thanks for the advice djr. In the mean time, should I still talk to her on MSN every night or pace myself out?
I was on fire on msn a few days ago with this chick and some how we made a money bet and I lost (on purpose) and she said instead of me coughing up the money, in return she asked for a dinner instead. Definitely IOI imo.

So today I told her I realize I still owe her dinner, and I told her lets grab a bite next Tuesday (don't want weekends because I have other plans) and if she isn't available I'll hook up with my mates. She gave me a shit test saying her parents are currently over at her place and she said her parents gets 1st priority and said I'll always be around. I played it off saying okay we'll see and she said we'll see as well (mirroring or I'm just thinking too much?). How should I approach from here then?

My intuition is ignore her and not talk to her for at least a few days but DJR, judging from your POV, what is the best case scenario that I should do?

    Have you learned nothing?

    No fucking MSN/texting bullshit.

Give her the gift of missing you.

If she's interested, she'll contact you.

And when she does, keep it to a minimum.

  14. Did anyone order Black Knights here? I could use some sizing advice before I pull the trigger. Basically I'm torn between staying True to Size or sizing down 1.

My waist is 30. A size 29 will shrink to tagged, but if it stretches 1" then it will be perfect. A size 30 would be ideal, if it doesn't stretch more than a 1". I guess my question is, how stretch prone are the 710s and is it even worth me dealing with the initial discomfort to stretch them out?

Should I just stay true to size from what I've been reading? I'm only worried about stretching since my S5000 stretched out too much and I didn't like the fit after.

    Thanks.

Uhh... considering that these won't be releasing until the end of the month (at the earliest), I don't think even Gordon could tell you how to size these at this point. With the sizing variation on the 710 from lot to lot, you should probably wait until BiG receives stock and confirms the measurements before choosing your size; however, you could probably assume that shrinkage and stretching will be consistent with the 710BK's.

  15. Ok guys. Here they are presoak. Size tagged 33. My waist is actually 34.5-35. I am surprised how big these are. Will these really shrink down to a reasonable size and not overstretch over time or are they just too big?

It sounds like you have odd bodily proportions (i.e. small thighs for a 35" waist). If you want them to be more fitted in the thighs, then you probably want to size down one - it's hard to tell how much room you have in the waist on those though.

  16. I bought a new pair of tagged sz 30 flathead 3001 (raw).... they measure 30 inches presoak...seriousily wtf.... Im scared they might shrink to a 28-29...... 28 is definitely not wearable for me...... should i keep them for sell them??

just for reference, im a natural size 30... my balls like to live together, not cleaved or separated cos they feel lonely on their own.

How do they fit pre-soak? If it's snug in the waist but fine everywhere else, do a quick warm soak and wear while slightly damp to stretch the waist back out. If your balls and thighs are losing circulation already, then sizing up would probably be a good idea. I think the rule of thumb with the Flat Head XXX1 cuts is to size up if you prefer a looser fit (or if you have large thighs), or go TTS if you want it slim; sizing down is for the adventurous.

  17. The 3XXX series denim of the F380 is different from the 1XXX denim. If you want better documentation about the stretching of the 1XXX denim, read the SExFH05 thread (they were made from the same denim). I recall reading that the denim will stretch back to pre-soak measurements and then some (~1")

  18. Does this sound most agreeable? I'm sorry but I had no intentions to give wrong measurements.

I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I just didn't want people misinterpreting your measurements and sizing up so that their thighs would fit, only to end up with baggy jeans.

Your fit and measurements are consistent with my observations for sizing of the 811's: TTS for a classic fit, or sized down 1 for a slim fit. If anything, the raws will fit slightly bigger than the O/W because they won't shrink as much (not soaked/washed as aggressively).

  19. Next, I had to face thine mortal enemy, the Fax machine. Lo and behold... in 2009... people still actually use these things a lot. I hate it. We don't have a working fax machine so I have to bike to Fedex everytime...FUCK... I had to do it twice today cause I sent it to the wrong place the first time... It makes me angry just looking at it.

    kixslf, great updates!

  20. Yea I wondered about the thighs as well, I'll have to re measure them right now.

Ok, from the crotch to the parallel outseam (where the selvedge is) runs at

9.5". That's still a lot..but I'm sure thats the measurements. I have only done one soak.

Measure perpendicularly from the crotch to the outermost material (i.e. don't stop at the outseam). Your measurement makes no sense as shrinkage occurs as a percentage across all dimensions, so according to your thigh measurement, your waist, knee, leg opening, etc. would have also shrunk considerably. That, and you would have to be anorexic to fit into pants with a 19" opening at the thighs.

Your soaked dimensions should be pretty close to the O/W dimensions posted on BiG.

  21. Quick sizing question. Do the 1001s stretch more than the others because of the denim weight? I am a 35" waist. When I tell people that they tell me to get a size 33. But most others say go true to size. What do you guys think?

TTS if you want a roomier fit. Size down 1 if you want it more fitted.

    34;).............

Have you started wearing your 1001's yet?

Mine are in the queue, but in all seriousness I won't be committed to wearing them for at least another year :(

  22. Shangers - Damn those are nice. I'm loving the details on the Double Volante jeans. That is some dark denim! I have a pair of Eternal 811's (O/W though), and have a hard time imagining any denim being darker. Any chance you could post some fit pics? Also, for those of us interested in ordering a pair, what was the grand total on your pair?

After following this thread, I am very impressed with Kuniyoshi-san's attention to details and construction. Now I look for these things in every pair of jeans that I handle. I appreciate my jeans that have these "features" much more, namely my Eternals and Flat Heads.

  23. Winter is coming. I may have to spring for some Iron Hearts.

    Guide me, Kiya.

I'm wearing my 9301 today. It's 23 degrees celsius in the office, and I have to stay very still and relaxed or I'm sweating.

I think the 634 cut would be better for colder weather. You'll lose body heat pretty quickly with the slim fit of the 301 cut. The IH denim is probably the warmest you'll find though.
