  1. Just dropped the bomb on the FH Black Mint shirt, hope it's nice.

*jealous* You got the last 42, which was my size... I better be able to find one while I'm in Japan!

Fit pics and sizing info, please?

    Inseam 37

    Thigh 11.3

    Leg Opening 8.3

  3. I really enjoy mine but like i've said before to say these are as good of quality as Flat Head's or Sami's imo would just be ignorant.

I don't think jaychiz or anyone is claiming that the denim N&F uses is the same quality as premium Japanese denim. Just let it drop already.

Yes, the Deep Indigo denim is overdyed (i.e. it bleeds indigo excessively) but I don't think it's an indication of the quality of the denim (it may have been overdyed intentionally). Honestly, I wish I had soaked mine from the start to get some of the indigo out. Even after 3 months of solid wear, there was still a fair amount of indigo loss when I soaked my top block, with no real noticeable loss of indigo on the denim itself (i.e. water was blue, but barely noticeable difference between soaked and unsoaked area).

I ironed out the selvage outseam on my Weird Guys so it lies flat, as opposed to folded together on one side (what they were like when I bought them). This seems to have reduced the hip flare.

As for the fit of my top-block-soaked Weird Guys, there hasn't been much noticeable stretching since the soak. I'll update if they do, but for now I am sold on the fit of my Weird Guys.

  4. Yes, it happened about 12 hours ago, but whatever is missing sold out early in the day.

Damn. So I guess I won't be able to exchange my 1001's for one size down any time soon...

What are my options for exchanges (I noticed that refunds aren't mentioned in your store policy...)?

  5. Here you go, 1001 size 31

I don't have any post soak, but they were skin tight

Here they are after 5.5 months

Thanks. That's good to know that you like the fit, but I'm going for something more fitted, like operationjake here.

    2m789id.jpg

However, according to him, he went TTS and now they've stretched out a lot:

call me crazy sidney, but i'm just gonna go true to size because my 1001's were true to size and they're huuuuuuge on me now. (looks like the model picture of the 380's on selfedge.com...
quite some room for a skin tight fit after soak!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. From the front the top block is pretty loose, and from the back the fit looks the same as pre-soak. My pre-soak fit isn't too far off from thatslapz, and I definitely want them to be more fitted than that after 6 months...

  6. i'm still not convinced that these are the right size, even less so now after doing some SuFu stalking.

Turns out that several of the people that bought the 1001's true to size and liked the fit initially ended up selling them because they stretched out to fit really loosely (like presoak). I couldn't find a record of anyone sizing down on these, but the majority of people who went TTS have been disappointed with the fit after stretching.

  7. But you tried them on in the store and we determined your correct size, right?

They shrink one entire size after a hot soak.

No, I purchased them online. I think you suggested that I was a 31 in most of the denim you carry but the consensus in the Flat Head thread said to go with a 32 in the 1001.

My main concern is the fit in the top block. There's tons of room right now (i.e. If I had a footlong cock and balls the size of eggs I'd have enough room, maybe with room for a diaper too). I think I'd need to shrink 1" across the hips...

The 16oz 1XXX series denim also has a track record of stretching a lot, so even if these shrink down to a good fit I'm worried about them stretching back to the presoak dimensions...

  8. what is your height and weight? Let us know what you decide to do and plz post some after pics if you soak em!

    5'9", 165lbs, 32" waist, 22" thighs, 29" inseam

    are you chris' friend?
    Probably not the same Chris.

they do shrink a fair bit!

    check here for comparison:

Do your 1001's still fit like this, or have they stretched out?

I think that they look nice PeterParker.

After a soak, I think that they will look even better.

They don't have to be super skinny in my opinion.

Thanks. The reason why I want a slim fit is because I have short legs, but I agree that super skinny isn't necessary.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll hang on to these.

Will a hot soak (2hr?) be enough, or should I go hot soak + hot dry?

I'm not ready to wear them just yet. I'm still working on a couple of pairs at the moment, but picked these up when SE had the SuFu sale. I want to soak them now, but I know that if they end up fitting well I will want to wear them immediately...

  9. Received my 1001's from SE today. I went TTS (32) as recommended on here... not sure how I feel about the fit:

    1.JPG2.JPG

As you can see the top block is very roomy. The waist is comfortable but there is tons of room in the thighs, contrary to what the SE size chart suggests. They're a little tight at the knees, but I'm not too concerned about that.

I want these to be fairly fitted through the thigh but I'm concerned whether a hot soak (+ hot dry?) will be enough to get the fit I'm going for. Right now I'd need to shrink 0.5" off the thighs... I'd definitely feel safer starting with 31s and doing a cold/warm soak.

This is my first pair of Flat Heads so I'm not sure how much shrinkage I'll get, although ~1" in the waist seems to be the norm (a little less for the thighs)...

Any advice on whether I should stay TTS or size down?

  10. good fit.

    ^ how tall are you?

5'9". With the exception of the tagged 30, I think the cut on the Weird Guy's is whacked (going by the BiG measurements). They're too ample in the top block, giving a carrot shape. As mentioned in my post, these didn't fit like this before I soaked the top block. Even then, they will probably stretch back out to the pre-soak measurements.

  11. Update: I couldn't stand the looseness and hip flare in the top block so I hot soaked these to just above the knees (so I wouldn't have to reset my honeycombs). Somewhere I got the impression that these were sanforized, but since the denim felt loose I knew I could get some shrinkage.

Basically, after soaking the top block on my 31's ended up like a pair of 30's, the size I should have bought in the first place.

    Pre-soak measurements

    Waist: 34"

    Thigh (at crotch): 12"

    Thigh (1" below crotch): 11.5"

    Post Soak measurements

    Waist: 33"

    Thigh (at crotch): 11.8"

    Thigh (1" below crotch): 11.3"

    IMG_0002.jpgIMG_0004.jpg

Much happier with the fit now, although there is still some hip flare. Still wish that I had gone with 30's from the start since these stretch a lot in the waist. The only difference between the 30 and 31 is the top block, according to the BiG measurements. There was some indigo loss from the soak and the sheen on the denim is gone. It'll be interesting to see if the top block fades faster than the legs now.

  12. Nah, the 42 is exactly what you need, the shirt shrinks a hair when washed too.

    kiya,

Thanks for your help. I ended up ordering a pair of Flat Head 1001's - would have loved to get the shirt too but money's tight. First purchase at Self Edge, and I've got a feeling that it won't be the last...

I'll be in Japan in a month's time so perhaps I'll seek out the mint shirt there. I would have waited until then to buy the jeans too but I couldn't pass on the sufu party discount.

On the topic of Japan, what is the availability/pricing of Flat Head stuff like over there? Based on the writeup of the black mint shirt, it sounds like it'd be hard to find. Also, I notice a lot of rakuten sites sell at full retail prices. If in-store pricing is the same, then I just might bite the bullet and give SE the business.

By the way, what shipping service do you use for shipping to Canada?

  13. Thinking about picking up the Flat Head Black Mint shirt. I have a 40" chest, thinking of going with the 42 but the 20" shoulder measurement is throwing me off. Most of my shirts measure 42" in the chest and 18.5" across the shoulders.

If I go with the 42 will the shoulders be boxy/sleeves be too long?

  14. PeterParker, i'd go with a 32 in the 1001s based on your descriptions. My brother is about your size and went with imperial shearers size 30 that have an 11.4 measurement for the thighs. here's a picture for reference.

i have a pair of flathead bsps, and all they have stretched is back to the original measurements as far as i know.

Thanks for the input. I'd actually prefer a slimmer fit through the thigh, which could probably be achieved with a hot soak on the 32's.

What's the general sizing rule for the 1001, relative to your F310/3100 size (size TTS/up/down)?

  15. Unfortunately, nothing carried at Self Edge. This would be my first pair of serious denim. My main concern is the fit of the thighs (mine measure 22"). I'm looking for a slim fit, and I have short legs (5'9", 165lbs)

    Perhaps you're familiar with the 3sixteen SL-100X denim... I'm wearing a size 30 in those (measured at 31.5") .

What other jeans do you currently own in what sizes?
  16. Deep Indigo Weird Guys, 3 months, no wash

    IMG_2001small1.JPGIMG_2004small1.JPGIMG_2005small2.JPG

    IMG_2003small1.JPGIMG_2006small.JPG

These things were overdyed big time. They bled indigo for the first 3 weeks onto everything they touched. Finally starting to lose some if it. If I didn't work a desk job I'd probably have higher contrast fades everywhere else like the wallet fade. The denim is alright but I'm not crazy about the fit on these. Not bad for a "gateway" pair of jeans though.

  17. I'm getting ready to make my first serious denim purchase and have decided on a pair of F310/3001 or 1001; however, I'm not sure about sizing despite searching and reading most of this thread.

My true waist is 32", my thighs measure 22" at the thickest , and my true inseam is 29.5" (FYI, 5'9", 165lbs).

This would be my first proper pair of slim fit denim, so I'm unsure about how slim I should go in the thighs. I think that 11.3" post soak is the magic number. In that case, I would go with a tagged 31 for the F310, and a tagged 32 for the 1001.

I'm pretty sure about the size for the F310, but I don't know about the 1001after reading about the stretching and people sizing down. If I size down to a 31 I'm worried about the thighs being to tight...

I'm probably making this more complicated than it should be but after several failed attempts at slim fits I want to make sure I get the sizing right on these. Thanks.

For reference, I like these fits (couldn't find too many of shorter people with my build):
