  1. Does anyone know of any selvage dresses?
    Don't.

Denim just doesn't drape well enough.

Also why everytime a girl puts on a denim skirt = R.I.P ass

I'm not a girl, but how about a chambray dress? This was the first thing that came to my mind when a selvage dress was mentioned, rather than denim. I think a well fitted chambray dress would look hot.

  2. Picked up a pair of 811's for my brother while I was in Japan. I would have preferred the raw version but could only find the one-wash version. I am a true 32, but my brother is slightly bigger, around a 33.

I tried on a 31 and a 32. For myself, I would have gone with a 31. I could barely button up to the top, and I'm sure if I wore them I would have had irregular bowel movement for a week, but they were a nice and fitted through the thighs (mine measure around 21" FYI).

The 32 fit decently on me as well, by no means baggy in the thigh and hip flare is barely noticeable. The waist is snug, but there's some bulging in the crotch due to the looser top block. The 32 basically fits my brother like the 31 fit on me. Oh, the 32 came with the red tag while the 31 came with the newer blue tag on the coin pocket. Sorry for the lack of fit pics. I didn't get a chance to take any before I gave them to my brother... If I get some later on I'll post them on here.

One thing that I noticed what that there was some serious leg twist going on from the one-wash. It appears as though the front of the jeans is cut narrower (or shrunk more) than the back (i.e. when folded at the outseam, they don't line up at the inseam). I found this a little annoying because the stitching at the inseam is less visible when viewed from the front, giving the illusion that the jeans are bootcut. I know leg twist is part of raw denim, but in this case it doesn't look so good. I guess I'm particular...

My brother tends to be more active in his jeans, perhaps even abusive at times, although this is his first pair of raw denim. These should look pretty interesting after 6 months. Don't worry, I've instructed him NOT to throw these in the wash any sooner than 3 months.

  3. I have a question about hemming/soaking, not really specific to SE but I figure kiya or somebody in here would be the most knowledgable about it:

Does hemming after an initial soak on unsanforized denim produce different fades at the hem than hemming before the soak?

I would imagine that hemming before soaking would produce more pronounced roping since the denim at the hem would be restrained by the stitching while it shrinks...

Just asking because I am thinking about having a couple pairs of unsanforized denim hemmed, but I don't want to soak them yet if I'll get better results if I hem them first.

  4. Visited the Flat Head store in Jiyugaoka while I was in Japan. The two guys that run the shop (didn't get their names) provided excellent service, despite the language barrier (I know barely any Japanese).

It was tough to choose only two shirts, but I left with a black western herringbone (same as the one on SE) and a brown western check shirt. The fabric creates a great 3-dimensional effect, and it is light and breathable, great for spring/summer weather:

    1262.jpg1264.jpg1249.jpg

I was hoping to find shirts from older seasons but they carried mostly the current season. I tried on the kasuri shirt as well which is really nice, perfect for spring weather.

That being said, I'm really amazed by Self Edge's ability to be so well stocked with Flat Head products. I was looking to get something that wasn't available through SE, but most of the pieces that caught my eye were the same as the ones SE carries. SE also had more stock than the FH store did, at least when I visited. When I mentioned SE to the guys at the shop, they instantly recognized the name and they clearly hold it in high regard.

Keep up the good work, Flat Head and Self Edge!

  5. Does anybody on here own the one-wash version of the chambrays? Do they shrink any further after a wash?

Turns out the one that I bought was one-wash (yes, apparently they do come in one-wash). Bummed that I sized up, unless it will shrink a tad more...

  6. Does the blue MFSC chambray (not the indigo "Black" model) shrink a full size as well, or does it come one-wash?

I just picked one up but I sized it thinking that it would shrink a full size like the white and indigo chambrays per the SE site... SE does not mention whether the blue chambray is unsanforized or if it will shrink after soaking. The shirt I bought was wrinkled (NWT), so I'm not sure if it's raw.

I would take measurements to check but I don't have a tape measure available...

  7. N&F is turning out to be a great disappointment, as to be expected.

damn look at that crotch. Maybe they will do a little more research, a little less hype and use more fascinating denim in the coming seasons

I don't see how you can slag the N&F denim. Have you ever even tried a pair?
no, I don't and after seeing the pics I never will.
N&F >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Crate and other crap raw denims at the same price point.

You are more fickle about denim than a prepubescent boy who just discovered internet pornography.

  8. I don't think the SEXSC06 were selling like hot cakes when they first released because they were meant as a summer jean (supposed to be released at the end of the Summer), but ended up being pushed back to a Fall release.

Word. I just picked up a pair because I was intrigued by the thought of being able to wear denim in the summer (gets up to 30 degrees celsius here). I already have more denim than I can wear at the moment but if these are as comfortable in warmer weather as they sound, I think I'll either be wearing shorts or these once the weather heats up.

Looks like they'll be arriving just in time. Finally getting some spring-like weather here. It's a very comfortable 19 degrees with sunny skies today :)

  9. N&F Weird Guy. I think about 8 months two soaks two washes

I haven't worn these in a while as my collection of kitsch ninja pieces outweighs my normal steez, but for the length of time I'd say these turned out pretty well.

Shit, the Deep Indigo's are hard to fade. Mine made it to three months and I'm just starting to see some fading. I've switched another pair into my rotation so they're getting even less wear now. Damn, after seeing these pictures I'm not sure if I've got the dedication to wear them for long enough to work the fades in. I really like the denim, but they need some serious wear to get the indigo out.

Did you soak initially to get some of the excess indigo out (mine were seriously overdyed)?

+rep for being the first person to post some N&F Weird Guys that are actually worn in.

  10. i heard you are the king of downsizing :)

anyway all buttoned up now, can be done guys lol, from 2buttons presoak to all buttons post soak.

but its hell of torture on waist, hope it expands out nicely.

Please post fit pics and info on sizing. After your description of getting them on, I'm curious as to how tight they actually fit. I'm also wondering how you still have circulation to your legs.

  11. And now for something completely different.

Kicking Mule Workshop. I found these at my local thrift store for 13 dollars. Despite being a fit I never even considered wearing, one can make exceptions for the sake of an amazing deal.

She (my tailor) has once again exceeded my expectations on most every level imaginable. While selvage was lost, I think I have found my new project for the summer. :)

Wha? KMW in a thrift store? That's a sick deal. Are they MIJ too? I'm guessing that they were the 1950's, and you had your tailor alter them to fit more like 1980's?

    Nice find!

  12. how much does this expand?

could only button up 2 on this....

    that was before soak....

just soaked it gonna try it on again after drying

Most people have reported some serious shrinkage on these... If you could only button up the first two buttons presoak, I'd imagine that they'd be nearly impossible to get into postsoak... Definitely get into them while they're still damp to stretch out the waist if you want any chance of getting into them, although even the thought of this sounds painful.

    How'd you size them anyway?

  13. Can anyone who has ordered any type of Weird Guy from BIG confirm that the measurements they have on the site are accurate ?

Didn't order from BiG, but their measurements for the Deep Indigo Weird Guys in size 31 are consistent with the ones I took of my pair.

  14. LeeHyori12.jpg

From a few pages back, but quoted for Blake Griffin's intense "I am going to pillage your ass" look on his face on the TV in the background. Dude's got serious steez on the court, too bad he was a one man team against UNC. And back to the Korny Azn Gurlz...

  15. good luck i doubt it still be in stock by that time

Really? Are there any shops other than Hinoya that carry Mister Freedom? I was under the impression MFSC chambrays were produced in Japan and that they would be more readily available there... What's the retail price on them in Japan anyway?

After checking out the Mister Freedom site, it looks like they distribute out of North America. I guess I just might pick one up from SE once they're in stock.

  16. How are they whack?

That link back to our thread is about confusion about HOW to measure the chest on a shirt. From my knowledge, there's only one way, measuring the shirt from one pit seam to the other.

Sorry kiya, the comment about the measurements being whack was tongue-in-cheek (hence rolleyes). And I was referring to the debate about the specifics of thigh measurements (several of the comments in the thread are tongue-in-cheek). I didn't mean any offense by my comment.

On a completely serious note, I think that the measurements on selfedge are accurate.

  17. limited cpo batch at mf store

    http://www.misterfreedom.com/?p=447

    fancy shirts (mfsc 645)

 :jizzinmypants: Oh man, if I had a grand to burn I'd be all over the CPO and chambrays. I'd definitely pick up the CPO, but I'm going to Japan in less than two weeks and I don't want to prematurely blow my load. Definitely looking to pick up a MFSC chambray while I'm there though.

  18. how is that true if the 1001 in that same size has a knee measurement of 8 inches, and it has generally slimmer measurements. wouldn't the knee on the f310 be something like 8 or higher? i'm only saying this because i have a pair of apcs with the 7.7 knee and they are very tight, and i was expecting the f310 to be a looser fit.

According to the SelfEdge website, both the 1001 and F310 have a 7.7" leg opening. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, these cuts are pretty much straight and untapered from the knee down. Not too hard to believe that they would be 7.7" also at the knee...

But then again, SE's measurements are whack  (reference to shenanigans in the selfedge thread...)

  19. It's the Black Mint shirt, here:

    http://www.selfedge.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68&products_id=366

We have one 40 left, and no more to be made.

I feel like a complete idiot for not buying the 42 during the Sufu sale now. I wish I had known back then that the shirts were no longer being made. It looks like most rakuten sites are sold out of it too, so chances of me finding one while I'm in Japan look slim :(

  20. hey guys, 13 months worth of wear on my skulls. First soak was when i got then, second soak was at 6 months. First wash was at 11 months. Bad pictures, i know.

Those look rad. The honeycombs on those are epic. I hope I can pick up a pair of Skulls when I'm in Japan.

  21. any more opinions?? thanks

You look like you have a lot of room in the waist and top block. I would size down, but I prefer a more modern fit.

Like you said, I just don't think you are used to the straight leg. I feel exactly the same way about the fit as you do (thighs fit nicely, but below the knee it's kind of weird). The part below the knee will look fine in my opinion after the denim settles down and evens out.

I don't own a pair of the SExDBxSUFU, but I recently got a pair of slim straight-legged jeans. I let them stack at first but coming from a pair of tapered jeans before these, the stacking just looked weird. I tried experimenting with cuffing and I settled with a single 2" cuff so they just break when I'm wearing shoes.

I was inspired to do this after reading kiya's post:

    Another note..

This obsession with tapered jeans and small leg openings has to stop.

I've seen people on forums asking if these "stack like 19cm jeans".

    C'mon.. really?

Do not be afraid of a larger leg opening, this is what jeans and even fashion is about, experiment with new things. It's only in your own head that you think a 8" leg opening looks strange on you. Try cuffing them a couple of time, try hemming them at your actual inseam and let them barely break at your boots, try cuffing them so they're slightly too short.

Or you can let them stack, which will work with this cut, but it won't look at neat as a pair of super slim tapered jeans.
