  1. Quote: but Losing My Edge has to be one of the most relevant songs of right now. That shit is hilarious. superfuture version: I was there at the patent office when the rivet patent was given, I was there when the shuttle looms left Valencia street.....I heard you sold your vintage big e's to buy a pair of 45 rpm's...I heard you sold your 45 rpms to buy a pair of vintage big e's...

Oh, I know. I'm talking about all the stuff he put out on 12". This is: "Give It Up," "Tired," "Losing My Edge," "Beat Connection," "Yeah (Both Versions)," and "Yr City's A Sucker."

That's not really album material... I think he just wanted to make those songs all available on CD so he threw them out as a bonus disc.

I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good song ever done by anyone. Love it!

Quote: wild whiskey yours is cool, how bout city names somewhere and color variations?

Yep. Any color combination is possible, but I'm not going to flood the thread with a hundred different ways of looking at it. As for city names, I could put in "tokyo" because that's the city that I used to make that design, but I think it stands well by itself.

Is this voting thing even official in any way or are we just screwing around here?

  3. hahnstch, conceptually that sounds like a great idea, but it would be very difficult and probably out of budget range to do selvage stripes on the sleeves. When I made that logo I imagined it would look good as a one-color screen on a light heather grey t-shirt. If we went with a one-color logo, it would be extremely affordable - I wouldn't mind running, screening, selling and shipping the shirts myself on a made-to-order basis.

  4. I liked the word "hipster" when only hipsters use it (I know its an incredibly old word, but only became ubiquitous recently). Now, everyone uses it, so we have to start using a different word. In any case, I still want to know about those hipster jeans.

  5. Metalguru from what I've seen, the styles on Denimbirds are pretty cool. I like the back pocket design... my pick would be the Birds Bootcut Broken Dry. Looks like a nice balance between front and back rise and a great cut on the seat area. Also, DBs have rivets on the back pockets. Dammit, why couldn't my RR's have them too?

  6. Okay while we're on the subject of A.P.C. -

what are the "hipster jeans?" I asked before but never got an answer. I've heard references to them quite a few times but since they are not on their website I'm quite confused. Are they women's jeans, men's jeans, or another unisex?

  7. Poly, when I bought my RR's I called around and Famous Friends wanted at least $200, although in fairness it was awhile ago and the memory is blurry. In any case I've always supported the notion of patronizing locations with excellent customer service, and my dealings (although short) with FF were stellar.

I ended up going with Fred Segal/HTC, where they were $180 (the tag on the garment said $190, not sure why I only got charged $180). With shipping and tax, it was a little over 200. This guy named Jeremy who works at HTC is an excellent person to deal with - I had my order done and the jeans were shipped in less than an hour period, and he even let me scan/e-mail my information instead of faxing. I also received a note with the jeans, that came wrapped in their box, complete with Nudie brochure.

Consider your location when you decide who to order from as well. Hollywood Trading Company is in LA, and FF is in NYC, so it will get to you faster for less money if you go with the one closer to you.

  8. Check out Earnest Sewn. They have some mid-blue washed jeans with realistic fading (although the behind the knees is too low). The color and "style" is comparable to Seven, but with a more flattering cut and less branding. Paper Denim & Cloth also make a really nicely cut and styled product - particularly LTD, GTO and ICN. Also, the Nomad Tribe jeans are really cool.

For the rest, you've just gotta get out there and looking, but stay away from the following:

Excessive / yellowy washes. You want your jeans to look authentic, even if they are obviously pre-treated (AKA not worn-in by you).

Excessive boot cuts. They are outdated now, even though Seven disagrees.

Stupid details like patch patterns and stenciled words. They suck. I'm not against the little Tsubi crosses/T's or the Kunna "K" but things like gothic font words... uck.

    Energie, G-Star.

Ask your girlfriend for her opinion on the fit - she'll have a good idea. Looking behind at your ass in a mirror isn't going to do them justice, have her take a good look at them while you walk around.

If you plan to cuff them at the bottom - get selvage. Do not cuff non-selvage jeans, it's looks rediculous to have that puffy fraying outseam staring everyone in the face while they walk by. If you go with any of the above brands, don't cuff them.

Feel the fabric when youre looking at them. You want the denim to have a nice variation in height and slubbiness when you rub your thumb across it. Also, puffy fabrics are a matter of opinion, but I think the more compact, the better.

  9. Thanks for the info on pricing guys - I'll have to go and actually check out the cuts in person. I dont expect to be pleased - I prefer a much more updated cut (very slim, low rise with a slight boot is nice). I might even check out their womens jeans too. I've seen one pair of 45rpms in real life. They were beautiful, but the cut wasn't really my style.
