  1. Just went to the Levi's store in SF this weekend expecting to find everything I could possibly want, but I was so disappointed. They did not have a single piece of rigid repros! The workers had no idea what I was asking about most of the time, and if they did know what I was talking about they'd just say "Sorry we don't have those." I felt like there should be ONE store I could go to and actually talk about nonsense like selvage and denim weight. The rest of union square was cool though, although the designer-store workers were pretty uneducated about fabrics and construction (no surprise there). Am I an asshole for testing workers on this sort of thing? icon_smile.gif

  2. It's not an original, Eldave, it's a repro.

It's a beautiful jacket, serge. Levis sure don't make them like they used to (unless you pay a lot, of course). I've been eyeing the "Type 2" Denime jacket. I believe it's the same style. $320.

  3. Well that totally depends on what you would call "hottest" and in what area/country you're talking.

If you mean most ubiquitous "premium" denim: Seven for all Mankind. No question.

If you mean new and upcoming yet wildly sought after, I might say Earnest Sewn.

I would say Nudie, but I'm admittedly biased after I got my Nudies. I've fallen into agapic love. Not only that, but Nudie is not popular here in the states at all, and probably will not be for a long time [if ever].

  4. Agreed. Vaios are the coolest PC laptops, but there is no competition against the PowerBook. If you can afford it, buy it. Aside from the beautiful, modern design, the hardware is extremely quiet, the screen is unbelievably nice looking, and the Mac OS X software is far superior to the Windows software.

And use the Apple DVD player. It's about 9,334,013.55 times better than any DVD player available for Windows. Long plain rides can be at least moderately enjoyable.

  5. Here's a link if you've never heard:

Does anyone know if other denim companies use this effect? Basically, they use a heavier weight thread on the warp, and a lighter weight on the weft, and I'm thinking there might be other companies (Nudie, namely) that use this technique but do not have a specific name for this. However, since I've never seen 45RPM jeans in person, I can't confirm if they do use this unique way of keeping the heavy weight texture with the comfort of light weight jeans.

I ask because I recently acquired some Nudie Reg. Ralf Dry Selvage jeans, and despite that they were the dry denim, they were extremely comfortable to put on. The weft was very soft against my skin, and I'm thinking that perhaps the company that manufacture's Nudie's Selvage jeans uses the BC4000 technique. This would also explain why the denim feels exactly like 14 oz on the outside, but is listed as a lower-weight denim (13.5oz I believe).

  6. They are purposefully long because the designer is a big fan of the 50s Levis look, with the bottom of the jeans cuffed up to show the selvage. You can get em hemmed if you want, or just cuff them up at the bottom. I am 6' and after a couple washes they are wearable with no cuffs.

  7. I think this thread needs to die. But before it does...

I think their typography is actually quite good, and the shirt cuts look very nice, esp. compared to your typical A&F "look at my lovehandles" girl shirt. Some of the designs are too sophomoric for me to take seriously, though. They aren't really the type of shirt thats meant to be taken seriously, but whose gonna drop $50+ for a shirt that's a complete joke?

I still think its retarded that when one person says they don't like it, they're called sexist for stating their opinion about CLOTHING, but yea, my vote is that most of them are pretty cool.

  8. I still say rad but that's just for fun.

I've never said "Sell out get the hell out," but I might try it some time.

I hate "tight," "Off the hook," and anything that sounds like it was coined by a kindergartner (fo shizzle, etc). Also can't stand it when people call me "bro." "Man" is so much better. In reality though, I don't even think twice about this stuff, cause I don't really care.

I say "sick," "rad" and I've adapted to "hella" so much that it's in practically every sentence I say.

  9. They don't really modify their jeans so it seems unusual that all of the sudden they just sell out. I imagine that they're waiting on new stock atm. I've never heard of any particular recipes for creating a good effect on your jeans.
