@Alec Leamas I bleached an old pair of 501s a few years ago. The fabric became a lot more soft, but not in a good way, they felt almost like sweatpants. Color became a 90s even sky blue. It’s a fun project to try on a pair you don’t care for anymore. Just remember to agitate them in the bleach solution sometimes or the bleaching will come out spotty/uneven.

@horriblyjollyjinx Maybe, probably. But there are many people today that recognizes that the specific products they usually buy isn’t the same as it was a few years ago. So not completely unthinkable that this applied to people 50 years ago.

@MJF9 I was told when I was there but sadly do not remember the name. He posts from Japan pretty regularly on instagram when he visits his manufacturers so you can maybe look there?

@reubensangwich Yea its probably the last time I'm buying jeans for 300 euro, but they do have a more "premium" feel than my Sugar Cane 66s. The Mepse stuff looks good though, not too many faded examples on the web yet.

@reubensangwich Check out this one: https://mepse.base.shop/items/94947617 It's from a new brand and I believe on sufu only @beautiful_FrEaK have tried it so can't speak of quality but measurements match original post shrink. We also have Superstitch Paris, their type II is also closer to original: https://superstitchmfg.com/collection/denim/jackets/lr11/ Bought their 66 cut jeans when I was in Paris and they are superb, all their stuff looks really really nice. But as you say the type II from Sugar Cane that I have is definitely longer than the original Levi's cut.

SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

@AlientoyWorkmachine I also try to collect one physical thing only, had a serious amount of cassette tapes but decided that vinyl was to be my one thing, looks cleaner in the shelves anyways. Important to keep the hoarding tendencies in check or else my stuff starts to own me lol -
Mepse is releasing a great looking 1954 XX cut and a type II jacket https://mepse.base.shop/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAab5-ngxbl2KorrB7LPEWKLvdWuZzp7f0kXnP86LLEER1RHnkORBu0Gqg8c_aem_kr9szfe6odr3a2W4SwzsnQ

Don't have too many pairs but I'm happy with what I've got and they all see regular wear. From left to right: Sugar Cane 66, Resolute 710, Orslow painter jeans, TCB 505s, Superstitch LR01s, Transitional 501 redlines and late 80s 501s.

My vote goes for 66, 100%. Paired well with Red Wings and a chambray shirt too.

Wow that’s a great fit. Looks better than their old 40s fit imo, less flat in the butt

SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

@willi I own a few OCBDs from the 80s, one Ralph Lauren and the rest made in England random Savile Row type stuff. They are all really long and go way down to my thighs in the back, and also quite full in width. One actually even has the same length measurement as pit to pit, thus making it a perfect square. Even though they are my size they look silly worn tucked in with a suit or jacket, because of the ballony effect (think Seinfeld). I only wear them untucked casually. IMO 60s cuts are a lot more elegant and will look better today. -
@shredwin_206 Perfect fit on that tux

In my opinion, new jeans should be a little snug, but not so snug that you can't button them when new. Do you want this pair because the shop only carries a waist 34? If they have a 36, I think you should try that first.

Many styled examples of the new Live's 517 repro here: https://www.instagram.com/live_structure_and_co/ And a proper website here: https://517labo.official.ec/items/all They look so good imo, a proper 517 repro.

@PrettyBoyTony I will when the fades are interesting enough! I’m sure those 714s of yours will look really good anyways, the fit looks perfect in the pictures.

@PrettyBoyTony Agreed, I don’t think 40s/50s fabrics necessarily benefit from frequent washing. The 710 is the only pair in their lineup that looks really good washed-out imo. I’ve been wearing my 710s pretty hard since early summer and have only given them a soak so far. Interested to see how my Resolutes will fade with less washing since I can’t really find any examples online.

Finally got the chance to check out their store in Paris and left with a pair of LR01s. Really cool spot for any denim fan and Arthur (the owner) is very nice and knowledgeable about anything jeans related. Their shop is like a little workshop filled with vintage machines and faded pairs of their jeans and jackets on display, it would be easy to stay there for quite some time..

Lovely pair! Looks quite similar to mine. Love the dirty blue color they acquire over time, gives them a real vintagey-feel. They are one wash but I saw some extra shrinkage with mine, maybe 2 cm in length and they slimmed up a bit around the leg.

The jeans I personally wear the most are the ones I’ve sized up in.
-
Damn the new 40s look really good. I rarely wear mine because of the absolutely silly high rise, so this is definitely an improvement.

Oh yeah those look really similar
