Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
AlientoyWorkmachine replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
Reddit (like a lot of social media) tends to really sort of reward and incentivize some pretty antisocial behavior. That coupled with it's just mostly not my taste, I think it's fine to leave well enough alone here! -
^ This is interesting to me because basically, same. I’ve been running in unpadded/barefoot shoes for nearly 15 years now - totally changed my running posture for the better and alleviated any knee and back issues. It’s a reason I never fully got into the boots and still wear birks most of the time. The less in the sole the better, minus some protection. I generally don’t like the raised heel and hours with it hurts my back, if I could find nicer footwear with zero drop I’d be interested, but I’ve just never much like the moccasin aesthetic.

Well, I did lock in and DM my choice after my last post, but I do want to say...at least for us...more options here with the jeans than when we bought a house! -

My logic is just to go by your OA size, if you know it. Which is 2 up from your normal size in like sugar cane or Freewheelers. It seems Simone uses the same logic in sizing as they do (size for raw rather than shrunk), which is really easy enough. I wear my 01s in a 31 but the top block is more on the snug side, my less stress (in life and on the jeans) size is invariably 32. My canes and fw are 30. But I do like me some oversized sometimes, which is why I’m torn on 33 or 32 but if I were set on going for a good traditional fit I would definitely go 32. Probably for some the top block is more limiting factor than waist just bc waist can stretch more easily. in conclusion, this is pretty easy! And I don’t know what I’m doing still. -

That’s a lot of choices! I’m thinking 611 in size 33 for me, with a desired end length of 30. But I’ve got to pore over the measurements/models to be sure. Thanks for doing this. -
Anyone care to elaborate on what happened over there? I was never much on it/only lurked.

S hooks for everything I’m at least currently kinda sorta using, active pair thrown on the ottoman next to my bed, the rest in bin in storage.

Feeling uncomfortable for the photo is the only proper way to feel I think. Or at least I haven’t figured out how to kick that either.

ok, mind changed, deposit sent. Still not sure if I'm going 50's or 30's but I'll sort it eventually. Leaning 30's - I've got no indigo 30's (I do have TCB Black), and am feeling cinch + oversized. Will probably outsource the final call to my wife. -
Before I came to the personal conclusion that I’d prefer Freewheelers in this realm (not to knock on WH, as I said it was just a personal thing), I tried to understand this. Then I gave up. I did preorder one WH thing this year because it was pretty unique - but it was a one off jacket and I just went by measurements and product description, which is what I’d do if I ever bought their jeans again because I’m not sure if WH even knows their labeling system at this point.

Gonna bow out on this one y’all, consider a spot opened if someone else wants to jump in. -

That’s great and all but I mean that it looks like actually physically miserable. The struggle of the cigarette and the too small tub and all of it like it’s a real strain this dude is going through. It’s not a judgment on his character. -

Wow! This is simultaneously one of the most amusing and most miserable things I’ve ever seen. -
Jackman makes great knits. Also, given how long the sleeves are on my Ues jacket, I would look at their thermals also. Both are priced pretty similarly, and not at IH levels.

Could well be the case. Still might be worth an inquiry, if WOM is even curious that is. American brands price in a different world and I wouldn't be surprised if their asking prices are from labor costs / market strategy as opposed to materials. I could be wrong though. -

Since you’re discussing a possible denim I wonder if an order from proximity is feasible. Made with the looms from White Oak. -

I'd be interested, but would need to know more to commit. (I'm not joking about the pizza inspired arcs) Honestly though, like Julian, the biggest thing for me - after a good set of measurements - would probably come down to price. I rarely am willing to spend more than $250/pair and my closet now is fuller than it's ever been. -

WOM jeans with pizza arcs and I’m in. Not so much as a competitor but I told y’all I want those pizza arcs. Minority here but I’d probably prefer a 50’s cut. -

The attempt to make a bunch of arcane hobbies into a competition is sort of a social pathology to me. That includes my original arcane hobby - skateboarding. I don't think it very different with denim. Doesn't mean I don't understand getting sucked up in the appeal, but I have enough motivation to not want to be that guy that I've never had the chance to become disillusioned. -
Focusing is finicky sticking the CFV digital backs on a 500 c/m - the split level finder he's used to isn't going to be nearly as solid as using the screen/magnification. I'm surprised he didn't check in image review, too easy not to on that! That pair looks fully loved and lived in though!

^ yea, I actually find the long fit of it quite useful, esp since I am not a fan of tucking in shirts. I could nitpick about the quality - the panels have some a few skips/runs in the linen denim actually as one might find in some seconds quality, but for being yet another denim(ish) jacket it’s a unique spot in the wardrobe and just really comfortable. Curiously, the jacket seems a shade lighter than the jeans which do not have any skips that I’ve noticed, so I wonder if it was a different batch. Even with the flaws in the denim I’m overall quite pleased with it. I’ve never found unlined denim jackets the most comfortable with short sleeves, and this one changes that. Sort of feels more like a light flannel shirt or something. I’m curious to see how it fades and if I fade the jeans or the jacket more. I’m not sure how much wear either will get after a month or so from now, but both are the best summer pieces I’ve found.

If a picture could embody much of what I personally don’t find appealing about denim community/culture - explicitly and implicitly - this is one of them. Perhaps it’s the case here, but the only way I would/have worn a fit like that is if I were riding a motorcycle (long since sold), and even then I’m wearing leather up top, not denim. I get that some people love it - more power to them.
