Anyone have any experience using Grangers 2 in 1 wash+repel?

100% recommend, great stuff, I wash my jackets and Windstopper pants in 2in1 at least once every 2 weeks to keep them sufficiently water repellent

I wish they're reissue the Component shirt.

There were a few on Boxing Day at the North Vancouver factory store, picked one up. I had forgotten just how nice they are.

  3. @Nebulae Thank you for throwing the book at me, I'm a bit out of touch with my posthuman theory. I haven't read The Supermodern Wardrobe but will now.

Yes, I did neglect to mention these other design ques you are right, and you are totally right that the other details in Acronym's work are just as much a feature of "proper" techwear as weatherproofing. It is a similar 'clothing-as-augmentation' idea.

Veilance is only involved because of Leslie's reference to Hugh's responsibility for it.

Honestly, thank you, we need more discussion with actual evidence behind it.

  4. @Cornuto you have a point, but the Japanese Repro scene is slightly more political than that. Uncle Bill (William Gibson) wrote multiple novels which describe what Repro is about (namely Pattern Recognition and Zero History). The point Repro culture is trying to make is that what was American workwear in the first half of the 20th century is, despite technological advancements, of higher quality than what most people wear today. That's the point of the black Buzz Rickson's MA-1: that it is every bit as functional as the ones the USAF used in WWII.

  5. I know I'm a little late to the party here, must have missed this discussion last night.

@CARLOOA I agree that most of the points Leslie discussed were at the very least undeveloped, and I agree with @branespload that the idea she touched on were ones that need a wider discussion.

There was one major oversight that I think is harder to ignore: the proposition of clothing (techwear) as physical augmentation. While Leslie does touch on this when she references E's quote on how "everyone is already a cyborg" it is used as a justification for Acronym's cyberpunk aesthetic rather than the proposition that clothing can act as a sort of knights armour protecting him from whatever unfavourable situation he may find himself in, which is the actual functional core of Acronym and Arcteryx Veilance (although ACR brands itself like it is also augmenting the wearer for a slightly more violent situation than AV). Its that idea of 'if phones can augment our memory and contact lenses can augment our vision, why can't our clothing augment the way we interact with the current weather conditions?' (not actually quoting anyone in particular).

The misunderstanding of this concept where techwear is thought of as an aesthetic movement is the root of this issue. The image of cyberpunk's pension for augmentation that ACR's clothing exemplifies is combined with a multicultural image of the streets of 2019 Los Angeles (from Blade Runner rather than next year) and Neuromancer's Chia city, Akira's Neo Tokyo, etc. have created an oriental image that smaller companies that don't understand (or don't care about) the proposition of augmentation have built off of because it references the same fiction that ACR does and that seems to satisfy those who also fail to understand this pension for augmentation.

So yeah, brokebois are ruining techwear XD

  6. Yeah, Leaf is not particularly difficult to get your hands on. That is, in Canada at least.

I'll warn you: the alpha jacket is really quite short (not that it is a bad thing, just different). The alpha has been my go-to shell this fall.

Can someone fill me in what's the big deal about the sequent pants? I find it uncomfortable to wear Goretex pants even if it's C-knit.

I do imagine that full gore-tex pants, over a material like Windstopper, would be overkill in all but a proper monsoon and would be less comfortable than Windstopper, with its ability to stretch.

Also, it is a bit of a cult thing lol.

    gotta stay dry

  8. I'm really looking forward to those dyadic pants, the pattern looks very dynamic.

c-knit pants are interesting to me, if there were pants in any full 3L gore-tex, I would hope they were in c-knit. None the less, I am skeptical. Hopefully, the pattern isn't too restrictive.

  9. I have never liked waterproofing sprays on shoes. They always seem to greatly reduce breathability or are more WR than DWR. Grangers is the standard DWR wash for Gore-Tex and similar products. I don't think you can go wrong with Grangers.

However, I don't think anything will make suede weatherproof.

the single flaw, for me, is the branded zipper pull, which I’ve learned to tolerate... but I hate that the name is there. At that price, I don’t want my cardigan to be googlable.

The pseudo-CPU status that Veilance always had is starting to disappear. It's disappointing, but inevitable with growth.

Even Gabriel Hounds, given enough time would lose its true cool factor.

  11. I really do like the patterning there, especially that low thigh/knee patch, wonder if that's a small cargo pocket.

Also those shoes.. are those the Arcteryx Acrux without that ugly heel branding? If so, that will be another pickup for me.

I am a little concerned about the busted crotch. I hope Veilance has taken care of such a prevalent and repetitive issue.

  12. @chris_n I decided to stick with the v1. Mainly because I didn't like the magnets, and I really don't think they work too well. The bungee thing on the v1 is pretty much infallible.

At the same time, if you're mainly just carrying a laptop, you very well may appreciate the smaller size

i have granger's spray DWR and the 2 in 1 detergent. you recomend the detergent wash over the spray dwr for gt?

If you haven't washed your jacket in a couple years, use both. Otherwise, it'll be easier to just wash it with the detergent, throw it in the dryer, and you're done!
