  1. I'm doing a project for a small clothing company up here in Boston, and they wanted to go for a heat brand for some bracelets so we ordered some up and got em in yesterday. I'll be going with a heat brand for my new mark as well, these things are insanely awesome.

That's interesting- I just bought a couple of tee shirts from Declaration a few days ago.

  2. 1. What's the best way to get honeycombs and stacks when you're wearing your jeans till they dry? (I know this question has been asked a ton of times already..)

    2. How's the fitting on Flat Head jeans?

    3. How are the black friday sales at Self Edge (if they have any). What's the average discount, is there hella people there?

    1. Go ride a bike, take a hike, do squats; basically anything that will wrinkle up the denim. Be warned, though- doing this sort of thing while the jeans are wet will stretch them out at the knees, creating the dreaded knee bags.

    2. Depends on the model. Which one are you interested in?

    3. Self Edge rarely does sales, and I don't think they get involved in that Black Friday hype. As for the discount, I don't think I've ever seen them go below 15% off regular price (usually more like 10%), unless it's a clearance for discontinued stock, like when they got rid of their Steam Locomotive and Skull gear. Bottom line- don't wait to buy.

Does BiG have a "protocol" for chainstitching proxied jeans with a red tab?

(i.e. if i sent my red-tab skulls for a chainstitch hem, would they cut the tab?)

Blue In Green (and other stores) aren't allowed to sell red tabbed jeans. Beyond that, they have no responsibilities. Enforcement isn't their job, so if you managed to import a pair with a red tab, they have no obligation to cut it off. Frankly, I doubt Gordon would want to waste his time on something like that, anyway.

  3. Looking for a medium priced indigo jean so I was thinking

    Japan BluexMomotaro - Skinny Straight

    Or

Naked & Famous Japan Heritage - Weird Guy

I'd go with the Momotaros. I'm not familiar with the new Japan Blue line, but I have a pair of the regular Momos, and they are exceptional jeans. I've never been impressed with N&F, based on what I've seen in stores.

I am looking for a pair of jeans with some high quality construction and a slim fit...my 47 LVC's finally falling apart and I am looking for something a little slimmer, with a slight taper. They also need nice pocket bags, as for some all my pockets seem to fall part! I am willing to spend ~$300

So, heres what I came up with after browsing around:

    Momotaro 701 Vintage Straight

    SDA 103

    Eternal 811

or....the new Roys Nihon RS2 which come out this Saturday. These are a little out of my price range but they seem super awesome...

I am looking for quality over fading properties.

Both the SDA and the Warehouse jeans use all cotton constructional threads, so the seams will wear out and break more quickly. If you're not interested in doing repairs, I'd recommend looking only at jeans with poly/cotton constructional threads, which are something like 3X stronger. As I said before, the Momotaros are exceptional quality and the denim is beautiful. You can't go wrong with a pair. If you check the Momo thread, you'll see about a billion pairs of the 701s and how they age.

Having said that, I'd recommend spending the extra cash for the Roys. I've seen the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Roy puts into his jeans and they are truly fantastic. The new denim sounds great, too. Besides, I'd like to see someone get a pair so I can enjoy them vicariously.:D

  4. Made in USA awl blades are so legit. Forget the company, somewhere in NJ.

    C. S. Osborne in Harrison, New Jersey? Their old hand tools (they've been in business since the 1800s) are pretty beautifully made. The more modern stuff is less consistent in the quality.

    Nice work, btw.:)

  5. Wolverines and Thorogoods are fashion boots? That's a tough statement to take seriously. And as for "riding the crashing crest of the heritage trendfucking wave", Alden's been surfing along right there with them. The company has also had some well documented issues with quality control following its decision to pump out as many pairs as possible to cash in on the trend, so I would be hesitant to say that the differences in quality are immense.

  6. you missed it by 3oz ;) but 21oz is still heavy enough.

Damn. I was starting to think I knew what I was talking about, and then I get served.:( Back to school for me...

  7. Think they were closer to $600, and with the dollar tanking like it is, the new version will probably be even higher. I'm guessing around $750. Hopefully, I'll be wrong about that, cause I'd love a pair.

  8. denim sailor whtas your sams? tell us about it!
    "my Samurai s510xx one soak"

    but didnt say what weight

They're the 24oz. version. DS doesn't play around with that lightweight kiddie denim...

  9. I have large thighs, about 10.75" and my waist is a 33" and my inseam is 28" and I don't wear my jeans baggy at all and up until recently I wore Levi 511's but they got too tight.

So, i'm here asking you guys what you would recommend for me. Also, should I presoak? Budget is $200.

Thanks a lot and I hope you guys can help.

Is that thigh measurement a typo? Because with a 33" waist, 10.75" thighs are not bit at all. Virtually every pair of jeans on the market will fit you. I know this because I wear either a size 32 or 33 and only the slim cuts are too thin for my 12" thighs.

  10. . i thought of trimming those loose threads but not sure if they would unravel if too short. never owned too many pairs of boots before but boots that i own dont seem to end like that with the sole stitching. is this normal?
i'll just clip off those loose threads just in case the get caught in something, which i won't want to.

Actually, instead of clipping the threads with scissors, I'd recommend taking a lighter and burning them off. They're almost definitely poly cotton threads, so they'll melt. The end of the thread will then have a little blob of melted poly, which will keep the stitch from unraveling. The technique is pretty simple; just angle the boot so the flame doesn't scorch the leather, then light the thread. Let it burn for a second until it's short, then press on it with your finger to extinguish the flame and flatten the end of the thread.

I've done this with virtually every pair of boots I own.

  11. Damn I'm so keen for these. I also hear that VMC are having some 25th anniversary jeans made by IH out of some crazy 25/23 oz raw/wash denim?

Yep, that's correct- 25oz sanforized denim. They're gonna be special.
