  1. It's my understanding that a nep is a fiber tangle that results in a fluffy tuft, like the ones all over the denim in my close up. Usually, textile manufacturers try to get rid of them, since they're flaws. A slub is more of a knot or twist in the fibers that creates a bump. So technically, there are no slubs in that pic. Kind of an esoteric difference, but I like getting geeky about that sort of thing.

  2. Pleasantly surprised by how much I like this shirt, given that I have no experience with the brand. It's the "Neal Cassaday Bakehead" shirt. I stumbled across it while aimlessly websurfing and instantly fell in love. Picked it up from Speedway on Rakuten, which was a wonderfully smooth experience.

  3. I'm looking for a small scrap of interesting leather for a replacement patch on some fresh denim...anyone have any interesting ideas or sources?

Search ebay- you can find patch sized scraps in virtually every hide ever tanned, and the prices are ok, since they're leftovers.

I say go with frog hide.

  4. my beef with the Japanese brands is that while i can fit comfortably in most brands' XL sweatshirts, they rarely have t-shirts that don't look like latex paint on me, even in their biggest size..

haha, I know what you mean. I desperately wanted a PBJ indigo LS t-shirt (not loopwheeled) but the size XL had a shoulder of like 16" and a 40" chest.

God, yes. I have had to pass on so many awesome shirts because the Japanese XL is like a US medium. If the sizing went large enough, I'd have about a dozen SDA shirts- I love those Engrish graphics they do.

  5. I went with a size 34; these days I'm sort of between 33 and 34. My Iron Heart 634s are a size 33 and are a bit snug in the thighs, so I wanted a more relaxed fit. The Oni "Blue Fit" is sort of a classic loose cut, so that worked out pretty well for me.

  6. Sadly, it’s time for me to retire my beloved pair of Oni 211. And before anyone freaks out and says, “but they still have tons of life left in them!†know that the only reason they’re going into the closet is so that I can participate in the HWDC2. Otherwise, I’d still be wearing them, because they’re just now getting to the good looking stage. If only I weren’t such a slow fader. It’s a bit sad, really.

Here’s what they look like after nearly a year of daily wear and 9 machine washes.

Check out that streaky, uneven weave in my sorry butt fades

  7. That'll be me!

Aero Leathers were carrying them last year, and I think were the only retailler outside of Japan. They sold off a load of denim at the end of last year, and I snagged my pair then.

They're seriously heavy, but after a few days wear are starting to soften up. At first I was convinced they wouldn't be practical for two years.

Is it too late to consider a substitution?

No problem- just wear two pairs of them and you'll be golden.

  8. That sounds right. Mine measured 37" right out of the box, then shrank to 34.5". That's for model 211, bought almost exactly a year ago. I also considered buying a new pair and wearing them for the contest, but eventually went with something else. Finding Oni jeans is a hassle, but the 18oz irregular weave is amazing and totally worth the effort of hunting.
