Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
Dr_Heech replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
I left Sufu about 13 years ago to migrate to db because of the clique that arose here 😅 Glad that the clique finally died out, and we've all now found a place that suits all our denim nerd needs and can be life long pals. Obviously only on the internet. -
1942 Levis 501xx showing how beautiful the war denim is when faded, and the arcs look just like the pocket design on my FW1942's 😁 Pics via Berberjin

Bought this for my son. He wanted a sherpa levis jacket for a while, after being introduced to the type 3 as a boy, but had to have lower pockets/hand warmers. Got a nice clean example in a mid blue with some crocking on sleeves starting. Looks like 527 factory code (another EL Paso plant??) and manufactured in February 1988. Got it for a reasonable price but after postage and duties it felt like l'd bought it from a vintage shop, although it still came in under 100 quid which not bad l suppose. Anyway it fits me comfortably over a tee so there's always that option if he gets bored of it 😁

There's some corkers in there @buler - especially love that second photo down, l've seen it before but that looks so much like a Late XX/early 506XX - and the guy wearing the shield shirt next to him. Awesome image.
-
Corrected it for you 😆

Your guess is as good as mine mate. I always thought that leaving just the bottom button, or sometimes more than one button undone (leaving the top buttons done up) was a more modern styling thing. As the type one was designed to be paired with a pair of 501XX as a two piece overall, whether whilst working down the mine or as a horseback rider, l would assume it was less common. [Edit] just goes to show what l know if you look at @bulers post below. ..Me? With my 506XX repros l'm either button all the way up but leaving top button undone(too tight) or bottom two buttons done up only @shredwin_206 when l'm out for a casual walk

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

^This 😄 The good not so old days when making a comment without some weight behind it left you feeling vulnerable to the established pack of wolves. In some way, l think Denimbro helped raise the bar and in turn, made Sufu a better place to come back to, although the other forum let down everyone in the end. But here we are 'moving forward' (l hate that term) and maybe one day we'll all just be forced to migrate on over to r/rawdenim , whatever that is, and lump it. In the meantime, l think that we have a solid little community here. -
Going back to the flannel pocket bags on og Levis, l saw these pics on lg and had to share. Another flannel colour combo alternative to the usual herringbone twill or the natural cotton pocket material.

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

The only pic of me wearing said silverstone jorts. Paired with lvc duck vest (nice big pockets for screws etc) whilst building my shed in 2018. -
Not in this thread. If l get a chance after work, I'll explain it in the Denim blunders thread. Edit. Sent you a dm instead.
-
Yes @Broark l was clueless to the issue until it was too late. Glad l got away from all the complaints and other bullshit, l would never be a moderator again after that episode. Shame, as denimbro was a great buzz before all the hoo ha.
-
@beautiful_FrEaK actually l didn't discuss it, more of a mention. Was probably hoping for a discussion, as usual 😅
-
@beautiful_FrEaK l didn't post a pic of that pair but did discuss them along with the Foremost pair which are identical back in the vintage thread. You're not stupid mate, just tired is all due to your recent addition (and l'm not talking about WoM either.

I am open for business! Could do with some extra spondoolies. Just send me a dm for my PayPal link 😉

See? Just as daft .🙂
-
You still got it Paul, don't worry 👍 l feel exactly the same when l have to stand for a photo but l just have to not grin and bear it . Aren't we men daft? 🫠
-
Agreed. Hey Tilmann, maybe you should get Simone to make a pair of contest jeans (Age 0 of course) for Baby B_F? Get some sick fades 🤮 😅

Vintage 1922 Levi's 501XX on Marvin's. These are the earliest belt looped 501xx - so basically a c.1915-1921 501xx that still have the hand-tooled looking rivet heads, which between c1922 and c.1926 gradually changed to become the more standard round-topped rivet heads we all normally associate with 501's. They also have the first gen shorter belt loops made with shirt weight denim, which gradually lengthened over the decade plus concave suspender buttons and unbranded bullseye style fly buttons. These last two details disappeared around c.1926/27, the same year the redline was introduced. What strikes me most is the beautiful pattern of wear over time but also that someone went to the trouble of cutting out the centre part of the two horse patch, so that it didn't shrivel out in the sun or through shrinkage, and become uncomfortable for the wearer. I'm obviously guessing this last part but they are a thing of beauty in my eyes and to think they are roughly 100 years old. Not many wearable clothes that old. Off to get a lottery ticket 😁 Obviously a double cuffer too!

@bartlebyyphonics l knew you wouldn't let the side down mate

Congrats @beautiful_FrEaK and best wishes to your new addition to the family. And as Duke has pointed out, looking forward to the unusual stains and the wicked dad knee fades!
-
Cinchless!?! Shame on you @Broark 😮 Are there any participants going with the late 30s model?
-
Thanks, I'll maybe try and dig it out for a photo or two. Your guess is as good as mine on that one (or though l could compare my sweats once l've located the freedom sleeve). I certainly remember my freedom sleeve being more body hugging (sz XL) than the current regular style models in XL that l wear. Maybe I'll get some shots this coming weekend.
-
@Alec LeamasI have 2 regular sleeve Cushman sweats and one freedom sleeve model and l can say that they are definitely worth their weight in gold quality wise. Apart from the neck being slightly too tight they are perfect IMHO. The freedom sleeve is 16 years old and the other two turn 10 this year! Well worth the 100 quid each l paid for them (speedway shop online). I still have 2 og buzz sweats which now reside at the GF's house in London but they are like made out of kitchen towel compared to the Cushmans!

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

Silverstones. These were a wide cut when they were originally jeans but they draped weird without any cuff length so l chopped them. Not sure if the thread is cotton, poly or a mix of(?) but it looks cool faded. My phone won't do the denim any justice but the detail pics show the true colour more. The red tab just has a woven S on it inside a circle in white, reminiscent of the R only tab that was introduced in the mid 50's. Obviously l've customised the original back pocket design to fit in with my more favoured aesthetic 😉 -

@ahoI bought some Silverstones fom double0soul some years back. Some great details, including offset beltloop, Scoville marked rivets and a mix of orange and yellow cotton thread. They were cut off to make shorts - l use them in the garden now.
