  1. also sry hope ur not tired of my pics but i did try the haedn OS and surprisingly i was able to barely get it under the indisce 3/4. It was plenty warm for 50F without sun actually. I like that I can totally unbutton it to dump some heat and it still works well thanks to the shirt-jacket silhouette. Good midlayer

those of you w/ Haedn pieces, how are you guys using them? temps/conditions, styling, etc

Any fit pics of the arris ? size reference and size of the jacket. Im looking to use it for winter shell with my down jacket under, looking to see how it fit before and if you guys also use it in the winter with a coat under ?

The Arris is cut really trim, especially in the shoulders and sleeves, to accommodate an insulator like that. I have some fit pics, size XS and I'm 5'6" 125lb but they're usually just over a tee or one layer at most. In the winter you can get it over a sweater or cardigan, or be uncomfortably snug with a 80gsm coreloft piece. But for a down midlayer you probably want something roomier like the Monitor Coat.

Hi, first post on this thread.

I'm looking for small pouches to do some internal organization in my bag. Would any have any recommendations or could ID pouches like this.

I have a Veilance Nomin. Thanks

I use a small flatpack from outlier for loose/small EDC type stuff, and an arcteryx index 5+5 for change of clothes. I also sometimes use dopp kits for general gear/electronics, like the DSPTCH Dopp Kit and Aer SF dopp kits. DSPTCH also has a cool cable organizer thing with a handle that can organize things: https://www.dsptch.com/collections/cases

but in that pic of the khard, those are probably just standard tactical fare. You can look at Maxpedition or Vanquest for example

  4. oh wow ok i'm probably wrong about it being fixed on the ss17 thing, but i can tell you they did at least replace mine under warranty. thanks @matthewcng and @scamsterfor pointing that out. i wonder if it's related to moving terratex stuff overseas for next season

Could you expand more on your Haeden thoughts?

I don't think the short thick insulated Veilance jackets look good, especially those with thin/no hoods. Also I don't like the sleeves that long

Yeah all veilance sleeves are pretty long on me except for terratex stuff that I can shrink down in the dryer, unfortunately. But on a taller person with longer arms the body would look even more cropped lol

As for the Haedn line, I just haven't had a good chance to test them out. I think that'll change today. It's been abnormally hot in NYC, and the times it was in the 50-60 range it was raining, so I didn't want to take out the wool stuff. It's a dry 45-50 tonight so I will give it a go.

  5. Multiple people here, including me, have been able to send in Nemis jackets with wavy collars from 2016 and earlier to get the new 2017 versions. IIRC the issue was caused by skin oils breaking down the elastic a little so it would loosen out, the SS2017 ones shouldn't do that (my replacements have collars that look new still). Granted, I wore my Field OS a ton more than my Nemis this season, so maybe someone else with more wear on theirs can chime in.

  6. That’s true, but when I wear a backpack it always pushes the back of the jacket flat so the front sticks out a little. Either way I don’t think it looks bad closed, I just think it looks really cool open lol. Also when you have your hands in the pockets it looks normal, which is how I’m usually walking around when it’s cold anyway

  7. Also cold here, and coincidentally wearing the Achrom, so I figured I'd take some fit pics to illustrate what @junkie_dolphinand I are talking about in case any of you are curious:

    Open, so cool very swag

    Closed: oh im bloated now

that said, im wearing just this and the merino tee and my pits are still sweating in 45F cold. I guess 80gsm coreloft is warmer than I thought. Now I don't know what temp ranges make sense for the Haedn stuff…

I think you're severely underestimating the production process of Veilance considering the complexities of each pieces' pattern. The garments aren't as industrialized as you may think it is, 1 Patrol Down jacket takes about 15 hours to make (my memory might be hazy but it's within this estimated time).

not to mention they need to engineer their own manufacturing equipment to reach the execution they do for some of the stuff. i think the patrol takes 18 hours actually lol

Been wearing my new Achrom IS a little more frequently, now that it's getting a bit colder. Branespload has already championed it pretty heavily, so I won't say too much—only that it's a pretty weird jacket, but I'm warming up to it. One strange thing about it is the way that the front sort of sticks out; there's no waist-adjustment system at the bottom of the jacket (unlike the Mionn IS Jacket, or the Node Down), and the stiffness of the waterproof zipper causes the jacket to stick out in a way that can allow wind to go up into the jacket a little bit. This isn't necessarily a bad thing—for a jacket with this kind of insulation, it's not the end of the world that you'd get a bit of ventilation—but it's odd that there's no option to tighten it around your hips. I also imagine that my lack of hips probably makes this issue more pronounced.

Curious to hear your thoughts Branespload.

That’s actually my only critique of the jacket and why I prefer how it looks when worn open. It gives your silhouette a phantom belly in that it sticks out towards the front a little bit even if you’re pretty slim. I guess it doesn’t offer much waist adjustment because the jacket is meant for a west coast/less severe climate, which is also why it doesn’t have a dedicated hood or full coverage collar.

In real wind + rain I opt for Mionn IS + Monitor, so the Achrom is a bit of a narrow use case for me. But my brother in SF for example, gets by with the Achrom as his only coat

  10. Next season as in, SS18? That doesn't align with what I learned at Liberty Fairs earlier this year, only terratex softshell pieces (Nemis, Blazer LT) and the like will move. As of this season pants have moved already though.

  11. re: grey marks on pants, i only get that after abrasion from like, crossing my legs or having something imprinted in my pockets. I wanna say it's the DWR but I'm not too sure. but i've seen it on p much all my pants as well, it goes away eventually

re: down jacket sizing - i think that veilance sizes in general are pretty true, but with bigger/longer coats like the monitor down you might be able to go to an XS depending on how you like the fit and how much room you need to layer. similarly, a cropped jacket with elasticized cuffs doesnt look so bad a size up, like the mionn IS, depending on the look you want. But Veilance is designed for your true to size and works best that way.

  12. Uh not exactly. The Mionn IS blazer is the lightest weight insulated midlayer offered in FW at 40gsm coreloft compact. Mionn IS 3/4 is slightly longer but it also has the fishtail in the back and it's twice the weight at 80gsm

Keep in mind this is Coreloft compact, not regular Coreloft, so it isn't quite as warm, but it packs down very well

Quoin jacket uses Polartec Alpha, which is similar very packable and pretty stable so it stays lofted even after you compress it a bit. It's a 65gsm, but I don't any coreloft compact or a quoin jacket (just the vest) to make any head-to-head comparison

  13. It's normal for down jackets to have a few feathers coming out when you first get them, especially since Veilance uses high quality, fine down IIRC. I had it on my Node Down when I first got it, but I just massaged the feather back in and pulled from the inside (don't pull it out, it might make any holes bigger). A few feathers here and there for the first few wears but not long after it stopped and it's going strong.

  14. RHpEIRT.jpg

    quoin boyz

the vest is polartec alpha and the merino/nylon blend i think. just nice, compact warmth. stays lofted and structured, it helps me layer under trimmer shells. the fit pic of the arris/field OS i posted earlier actually has a quoin vest under the field OS (you can see the little stand collar). also it adds some storage to otherwise pocketless layers like the graph sweater and cardi

  15. not to be an enabler but those are my two respective favorite releases from ss16 and ss17. not to mention they layer perfectly together (well, the front of the field OS sticks out a little, but the notched hems line up perfectly)

    jkt5vd9.jpg

im curious to hear john's opinion on those too and if they differ from mine. also i think it would be useful for some folks to do a comparison between field IS and field OS (i dont own a field IS so cant say, but have seen many people ask about the two)

Has anybody used the Seque tote that could provide some feedback? Anything interesting design wise that sets it apart, or just your run of mill tote with cooler aesthetic/material?

i wouldn't call it run of the mill, but it's not mindblowing either. i have and use both the arc blanca 19 and the old seque. while they're both totes and the same material i like them each for different reasons. The Seque's big draw is the dual handle lengths. It just makes it easy to change how you carry it during the day depending on the load and whatnot.

It's also more of a 'closed' tote. Traditional totes are totally open from the top, and even the Blanca feels more open the way the zipper/shape of the bag work together. The Seque just has that one zipper along the top, and the shape of the bag is more rectangular. So even when unzipped, it doesn't really open up that much. This can be useful when you're stuffing it full, like taking it traveling. But for day-to-day stuff, it might be kind of annoying to access.

I know you can probably get a good deal on the old Seque, but if I were you, I'd just try to spring for the new version because it addresses some of the biggest usability problems of the old one. Namely the dual zipper, meaning you can open the bag from either side in either direction and only as much as you need it to open, as well as the finger notches to anchor the bag material while you apply tension to pull the zippers.

Feel free to ask specific questions, but we did touch on the Seque a few pages back I think.

gotcha. that does sound good. did they bond the merino to the terratex or is it like a liner?

i didnt get to check that, only caught them briefly at the liberty fairs show in nyc and weren't my size so didn't try them on or anything…

  17. 6 hours ago, Inkinsurgent said:

i'd have to see the material up close but if it's merino jersey as mentioned, simply sitting in an office chair will eat through it. merino is great stuff but its one big weakness is abrasion.

oh, i should've clarified. the merino jersey is only skin-facing, it's terratex on the outside, wool on the inside. something like that. that would be weird if it were just a jersey crotch through and through, like wearing merino underwear as pants lol

top two pics are the pants. much easier to see in the ash/grey version, but it's terratex construction in the upper portion, then parts of the leg have a merino/nylon blend i think similar to the body and sleeves of the graph cardi. then, on the inside, like in the seat/crotch/thighs and all that it's a merino jersey, like the frame shirts. im not sure if it has nylon content in it for added burst strength though. the paneling was crazy. i believe it snap buttons at the hem, like the same hardware used on current haedn OS. inseam i think is set at 30" and can't really hem them.. the waist also i think doesnt have belt loops or anything, just more snap button adjustors to bring the waist from +/- 1", presumably at .5" intervals

bottom pic is the dyadic comp hoodie and pullover. also come in ash or black. very similar concept, a revamp of the dyadic sweater but with terratex paneling. i think they look really cool and fit the veilance hoody i've always wanted. the mionn IS comp jacket is a bit much, i think this will be perfect

Any info on when S/S 2018 is coming out and if there will be Apparats in gray? I thought I saw a pair in one of the preview pics.

probably early/mid feb. i think apparats only come in like, khaki (true khaki iirc, not playa or utility) and black. the grey (ash) you mightve seen was the dyadic comp pant, which is like a merino/nylon blend + terratex + merino jersey inner construction

Do they leave a mark on surface when you take them off? I'm leasing and move a lot. I know what you mean, I use to use S-hooks to hang my packs and left quite a indent in my Arro 22 handle.

Also, what do you use your Seque tote for aside from wearing it on your head. Are there any benefits to it over a normal tote?

havent taken them off yet so cant say lol

as for the seque tote, it does have some benefits over a normal tote. main one being the two sets of straps, i like being able to switch between handheld and over the shoulder. i attach a grimloc d-ring to one of the strap bases as an attachment point for whatever if i need (keys, grocery bag or something). its a good piece of luggage too, i fit 2 weeks worth of clothes (albeit packable veilance stuff), a sidebag and shoes on a recent trip. it swallows stuff at 20L. if you can, i'd suggest the revised version. my main gripe with the v1 (whatever the non green one is) is that there's no 'anchor' pull to use the zipper. i have to pinch the fabric of the bag while i pull the zipper away. On the new one, it has finger notches to hold onto, and dual zip on the main compartment so you can access from either side and only as much as you need.

that said, while the seque is nice, i think the value add is that it's good for luggage/travel. otherwise, something much cheaper like the blanca 19 is a solid option for day to day use

  21. LOL i tried, but here are some pics (hi-res album here if the sufu uploads look awful https://imgur.com/a/JjKmF)

    order will be:

one button, both/all buttons, no buttons

doeln+nemis, conduct + indisce 3/4, graph cardi + indisce blazer

    DSC04016.thumb.jpg.19852e0c420d58c9c565903ca3eb98f1.jpg

    doeln/nemis top button only

    DSC04019.thumb.jpg.817daa0cc035e028a6b543d91b13d799.jpg

doeln/nemis both buttons (looks the same to me idk)

    DSC04020.thumb.jpg.6f71c8687ea80fdecb54cd0342e1e82d.jpg

    doelnnemis open

    DSC04025.thumb.jpg.4be5ac3c2448c670c4d84d0545bf6204.jpg

indisce3/4+conduct, middle button only -- imo i dont like this, but it might be that im short

    DSC04030.thumb.jpg.9681ecff5fdbb15413cbd1c46080a7f0.jpg

indisce3/4+conduct, top button closed. coat looks longer with the top button closed imo. honestly i forgot if this is the bottom button closed or not, but i think it's left undone. it all kinda looks the same for middle and bottom butons

    DSC04022.jpg

    indisce 3/4 + conduct open

    DSC04050.thumb.jpg.f9a27d92b678fa64c66e82763fe0a54a.jpg

indisce blz/graph crd top button only. cool

    DSC04043.thumb.jpg.e80d2c65fe6404fa5a87b50e4dc802bb.jpg

indisce blz/graph crd both buttons closed. looks the same as 1 button only honestly

    DSC04054.thumb.jpg.66c7996372b6cee08391cdb53e3c0831.jpg

indisce blz/graph crd open. babby shoes, never wore

hopefully this helps @SuE re: buttons and @johngalt re: some layering options. i actually tried the haedn overshirt and the mionn IS under the indisce blazer but they felt and looked horrible (idk how those japanese mountaineering stores on instagram do it). idk what it is about the cut of the blazer but even though it seems like it's roomy and boxy, it doesn't layer much underneath it well

    Field Pant update;

got size 30. Fits me better and slightly more relaxed. No loose threads on this pair but another really odd QC issue: the waistband that meets at the zip fly and cobrax snap is not lined up properly! The left side (outer facing waist band) is higher than the right side (inner, with male part of snap)

it is a seemingly trivial matter and doesn’t affect the wear or fit, but aesthetically it ruins the clean and minimal nature of Veilance, especially when worn with a tucked in shirt. Definitely not used to seeing this sort of inconsistency with Veilance. I’m very surprised.

the vendor only has one of each size and do I really to deal with the long turnaround with Veilance/arc warranty dept?

would love to see fit pics of going true vs sizing up one, since my true size (28) isnt even an option

i've heard some voronoi AR owners having a hard time with busted seams.. so i wouldn't be too confident with trying to warranty if it doesn't affect functionality. still, it's an unintended visual defect. maybe you can call them and ask before sending it in?

@SuE yea i'll try to get some photos in here later today
