  1. Paul's has long been considered one of NY's top burger joint. Greasy as fuck. Pomme frites was right next door too, but I dont think its there anymore (at least I didnt see it in its normal location). Cozi Burger on Broadway (and 8th-ish) in the same neck of the woods is pretty solid, and much cleaner than Paul's.

Carl to be technical, that area would be considered East Village/Astor Place, and not Union Square.

Nah Pomme Frites is definitely still there. I was there on friday. Gone way downhill though. It's run by some asian ppl now and you get charged 75 cents if you want any sauce at all wtf?

  2. What makes the Marc Jacobs backpack good aside from the fact that it is MJ and costs <$100? I mean, is it a $20 Jansport with more brand appeal or are there construction/design reasons to buy it?

  3. I think a white shirt is the only real choice for weddings. No loud colors and especially no striped anything. You should look like you are a guest, not at a job interview/meeting.

Do not wear those shoes. I know it's LV or whatever but that's not even a classiy loafer. It's half way to a sneaker. Go buy something with laces and a heel. Even something under $50 from the mall would be much more appropriate than those.

  4. is that from the famous deli whose sandwiches supposedly don't fit in your mouth?

Yea I think you're thinking of Carnegie but most of the "ny style" delis in touristy areas make hugeass sandwiches. My relatives from Japan went to one in time square and saw someone order a cheese sandwich which was literally just 2-3 inches of American yellow in between bread. They were so grossed out.

  5. ARE YOU NUTS???

Have you read Ellis? The guy's the main reason I still read comics once a year. His shit is soooooo well written - he has REAL concepts that matter today and takes this whole superhero concept and flips it on itself to create what I find a version/take on where The Weathermen left back in the 80s with Moore. His runs on Stormwatch/Authority & Planetary are phenomenal. His Global Frequency was awesome. And his b&w work for Avatar is suhhhweeeeeeeeet. And even tho I dig Transmet it did get a bit too self indulgent.

FUCK. Looks like Marvel's gonna get some more of my $.... bastards!

Yea about half of his stuff is amazing, but the other half just sounds like him writing the same character over and over again. Down, Tokyo Storm Warning, most of his avatar line, Ultimate Galactus, JLA: New Maps of Hell, it was just all great concept framed by "cheeky bastard" Warren Ellis dialogue. Literally every single one of his characters talked the exact same way, which will just not fly with the way Whedon has set up the astonshing X-Men team. Ellis is really weak when writing pre-existing characters, plus he has admitted to hating just about all the mainstream superhero titles.

He's probably one of my top 5 favorite comics writers, but if his work on Astonishing is going to be in the same vein as all his other work on classic marvel/dc characters, I think that's a pretty big waste.

  6. 78- Don't give up on the X-dudes just yet!

Astonishing X-Men redeems all of the shitty stuff that has happened in X-Men in the past 10 years! There are 3 trades out right now and I promise you'll gobble them up so fast that you won't know what hit you...

Gotta second this recommendation. The plot and writing is pretty fresh even though Whedon throws in tons of material to please old school fans. Sadly Whedon's run is ending to be replaced by Warren Ellis, whom I like a lot but I can't really see him being able to write classic X-Men characters.

  7. i love animal man; i had the original run, but sold them all for a song

anything grant morrison does is worth looking into

    what has he written lately?

DC is working him pretty hard. Did you read 7 Soldiers of Victory? The first half was great but the end kind of petered out. Maybe because I just don't give a crap about Mr. Miracle. He's currently writing both Batman and All Star Superman. Both are good but All Star Superman is just amazing.

  8. Just bought the trades to Morrison's Animal Man. What a mindtrip. The guy is definitely one of the top 3 writers in the business right now. Also picked up Warren Ellis's Crecy.

Has Vertigo come out with any good titles recently? The only one that I still consistently pick up is Fables.

  9. I used to play a lot in college. Not so much now that I'm working full time, not to mention that period when every single poker site decided to either stop taking US customers or made every transaction a total hassle. I used to goto AC a lot too. Usually played 1/2 or 2/5 at the Trop.

I really wish I caught the poker bug earlier. Online games were ridiculously juicy for a while. The smart kids who caught on early in high school were able to grind out a couple of hundred K by the time they hit college.

  10. Are you looking to retain the color and the gradient on from the original pair of sunglasses when you replace them with rx lenses? I'm not a big expert but I don't think there are any convential place will let you do that. Every single rx sunglass lens I've seen only comes in black, grey, or maybe brown tint, and almost never with a gradient. If you are looking for a lighter polymer, polarization, or anti glare coating then your options become even more limited.

  11. actually,

barneys is not being bought by the dubai firm.

the dubai firm does not own uniqlo.

uniqlo is owned by fast retailing corp. of japan.

fast retailing put in a 900 million bid for barneys

dubai firm only put in 825 million

they're locked in arbitration right now, as far as my last update.

as for the difference in tee sizing,

the standard uniqlo tees have one sizing scheme.

all UT tee shirt sizing is actually up to the designers in most cases.

they're not all stock sizes- it varies according to each design.

    ding.

Whoa, I'd only heard about the Dubai bid. I just assumed they must own Uniqlo, even though that sounded weird in my head. Definitely got caught talking out of my ass that time. :o

Is that duffle even a new item though? They had one last winter but the quality/fit was not very impressive for the price when I checked it out. I'm really liking the peacoat from the lookbook though. You don't see many brown ones and that collar looks interesting.

  12. From the Sartorialist:

    DMJuly.jpg

This looks atrocious. Color combination is offputting. Tie is too short. The rise on the trousers make him look like he is about 5 feet tall.

I don't particularly like socks in the summer myself, but seeing guys like these in the city make me wonder where the fuck they're going. The abbreviated pants/no socks look is meant for a beach/boat/country outting setting. It correlates to a functional purpose, much like a how golfers chose to flip their collars to keep the sun off their neck. The most outdoorsy place the douche in the photo is going to is crossing the street to goto Starbucks. All the "stylish young professionals lol" in the city who jumped on this wagon because they saw the look in a magazine are just one step past all the frat kids who can't stop popping their collars.

And chinos are not meant to be worn baggy and stacked....unless you're working at Footlocker.

  13. this may be out of place but anyone know anything about the possible uniqulo barneys merger?

The merger most likely would not mean anything in terms of affecting the stock and look of either store. Barneys is not being bought by Uniqlo, it is being bought by a Dubai firm who also owns Uniqlo. I imagine they would keep the two properies entirely separate.

And yea Uniqlo definitely has some uneven sizing. The plain/colored tees, UT project graphic ts, and pantone project ts have completely different sizing.

  14. I stay watching food network...I have to agree with everyone who says bobby flay is an arrogant fuck, he might have skills, but his attitude is annoying.

Everytime I see Bobby Flay I want to punch him in his smirking face. I'm not even sure how good of a cook he actually is. Mesa Grill is just alrite and I didn't see anything super creative on the menu at Bar Americain. Every show he has had for the last several years is him traveling around and mouthing off to other chefs. Rachel Ray does more actual cooking than this guy.

Food Network sucks now compared to the late 90s. All it does now is pimp products and create "personalities" to pimp said products. The best lineup was Two Fat Ladies, young Bobby Flay, Molto Mario, Ming Tsai, and Jaime Oliver. All of them cooked what they knew best and it was great. Now I flip the TV on and it's Emeril teaching old ladies about Pad Thai or Rachel Ray making her fakeass"omg this bite I just took is going to make me orgasm" face every 2 minutes. I don't want to see that shit.

Alton Brown is still the man though. I retained more knowledge from that show than college.

  15. ohh and cho is fugly.

Man seconded. Wtf does Britain not have any hot asian chicks? It's not even like she needed any real acting ability, since 90% of her scenes was just crying.

Deathly Hallows definitely up in the top 3 for the series. Although for the entire second half of the series I could have done with more magic and less Harry Potter being a little bitch about everything.

  16. LONGCAT COMBOS! OH SHI-

    And 4chan didn't popularize Ackbar. Fark.com did.

Anyone going to the 4chan panel at otakon? Weeabo sufu meetup yo?

  17. I think it really just boils down to...

Once Visvim and "lots of money" become synonymous in the eyes of many (and in a way, they already are) it's the beginning of the end. The dealbreaker is really just how many other people can recognize that they are Visvims, and thus expensive.

But I still have the hope that the relative simplicity and lack of flash will keep Visvim from being a "worthy investment" for these people. We can only pray.

Visvim actually got mentioned in a Wall Street Journal article about rich finance guys building "million dollar wardrobes." Actually surprised the hell out of me.

Male knees are fucking ugly no matter what the new in-fashion shorts length is designated to be. The addition of the cardigan makes this looks wack. Usually a big fan of Rira's but this one just doesn't look right.

All the guys from Asia needs to stop it with the cardigans and save that shit for fall.

  19. Not sure if this should go in superfashion, but what is the appeal behind stacking your jeans? I see tons of posts of ppl asking for jeans with longer inseams saying "my jeans don't stack enough" and "I want that stacking effect."

Is this for aesthetic texture? Does the stacking create additional wear for raw jeans? Is it because most selvedge jeans only come in a single inseam and the first originators just never got them hemmed, creating copycats who thought "this must be the way to wear good denim"?

I ask because this doesn't even seem to be a matter of preference. I don't see any guy on here with jeans that aren't at least 2-4 inches longer than thier "true" inseam, ie what they would get if they were buying pants for a suit.

Disclaimer: I've never worn raw jeans nor bought any denim more exclusive than levis.
