  1. you couldnt tell at all they really looked like they were there and there movements were incredible not mechanical at all.

See, this is the exact thing that did not appeal to me in the movie. In my mind Transformers are hulking robots with a lot of weight to them, yet in the movie they were fucking break dancing and barrel rolling all over the place. I'm glad the CGI technology is advanced enough to make the movements look so smooth, but it seemed like they went overboard showing off what they could do. It's Transformers, not Ninjabots.

But yea, I'm pretty psyched for the Harry Potter movie. Wanted to see it in Imax 3D but couldn't get tickets for this week so I'm holding out.

  2. I hate graffiti and people who think they are the shit because they do it. 99% of it is retarded bullshit. So you wrote your name real fucking big on an underpass. Big fucking deal.

  3. wait, uniqlo in the mall was not colosed for good? my mom said its over in the menlo park and the store is closed. please correct me.

No it's till there, but the selection is pretty crappy. Huge overstock of all the polos, jeans, and plain sweats but not much else. I saw a bunch of graphic Ts and got excited but it was just part of the sample sale so everything is in M only. They're getting pretty bad at restocking some of the basics too. I bought some of the last small sizes in the plain color tees two months ago and have yet to see more on the shelves. I was hoping they'd replace them with some pantone but that's probably not gonna happen.

The NJ stores are going downhill pretty hard.

  4. heh you just brought a glisten of hope into my eyes. ill go by later tonight when the campers are all gone.

You can get one with nearly no wait time if you goto Cingular/ATT stores. My friend showed up at 4 PM at the Soho Cingular store and was out with a phone by 6:30. Meanwhile you've got dumbasses camped out at the Apple flagship at 52nd st since Monday of this week.

  5. Do all japanese people in japan know english, and bullshit like they don't when tourist come around?

Well they do take English in public schools, so a lot of them have some knowledge of it. But it ultimately boils down to how hard you work at it on your own. 98% of them don't know enough to get by in America though if that's what if you are referring to.

  6. latest trainwreck:

Oh I get it. It's one of those black guys who unabashedly dress like nerdy/trendy white guys but with "urban flare" thrown in. Probably wears J Press in a non ironic fashion as well. I work about 3 blocks from the UO in Union Square and probably see 10 of these fuckers a day hanging around there.

Stop it black dudes. We know it's a straight up play for white scene chick pussy. Have some dignity. Stop it already.

  7. Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. I'm rereading it right now as a warmup for Spook Country, and it resonates pretty neatly with the ideals of Superfuture.

  8. For anyone who hasn't seen Paprika yet, you should check it out! Visually fascinating and an interesting concept. A definite mind-fuck.

I dunno about this. Saw it a couple of weeks ago and I find that it treads the same man/machine interface, "what is reality?", cyber fiction that's already been done to death in most animes. This was new ground back in Perfect Blue days, but now it's just tiring.

The Nana anime is actually pretty good. I haven't read the manga but right now they're on the part where BlaST is about to make thier debut and there's a controversy over Nana's relationship with Ren.

  9. But, one must be reminded that the Chinese wage isn't high, so prices would be lowered so that people can buy things (well, this is 'communism').

Haha, this is so wrong. Being a communist state has absolutely nothing in the way business is conducted in China. In fact, it is more greedy and capitalist there than just about everywhere else I've been in the world.

Prices in Shangai and China are not going to differ much from each other, especially if you are going to the official flagship stores. I'd personally recommend Shanghai as a more shopping oriented destination because you'll find more labels there as well as bigger stores and selection. Btw in Beijing almost all of the designer content is concentrated on women's stuff and accessories.

  10. This title alone has kept Gainax relevant as an anime studio in the last 10 years. Saw Pillows at Pianos in NYC 2 years ago. Awesome live band. They're playing Knitting Factory later this year.

But yea, the style and art is incredible. Storytelling broke down at the end in typical Gainax fashion, but damn what a ride.

  11. Macbeth shoes are actually pretty nice even though most hardcore sneaker guys probably wouldn't be caught dead in them. Lightweight, slim, very comfortable, and I get a lot of good comments on them. The Rindel model is pretty similar to the german army sneakers this forum loves so much.

The Journey's chain of stores carries them, plus Trash and Vaudeville. They run small so I suggest sizing up a half size.

  12. Really liking Chiyono right now. Neither sushi or yakitori, but a kind of japanese country style cooking. Plus it's quiet and usually filled with actual Japanese people.

I don't even know what authentic mexican tastes like but I'm always having lunch at Big Enchilada near Union Square. Stuff is pretty fresh and prices are decent.

  13. This passes for hiphop in Europe because dude....do you know how white Europe is? I've hung with black guys from Britian and I'm more ghetto than most of them. I don't care for this stuff but in my mind I think "if a bunch of spoiled British white girls and thier hipster/chav boyfriends wanted to rap, then this is probably what it WOULD sound like."

To me, this stuff is at least 10x more authentic than the fake swagger gangsta rap that comes out ad nauseum from asia.

  14. ^DOTA owns TFT

That's not gonna happen. Blizzard has a reputation of delaying, not early releases.

Man I was so pissed when Diablo2 got pushed back from its holiday season release.

From what I understand Blizzard has already done a couple years of major development on this. Multiplayer is pretty much ready for all three races. Since WoW is pretty much already on revenue generating auto-pilot I can't imagine Blizzard has any excuse to delay launch. New units all seem to be there, engine is already set and ready to go....come on summer or xmas 08!

The only thing I'm worried about is all the vids seem to be showing off all the Protoss upgrades with very little for Terran and nothing for Zerg. Whatever, I'm gonna go out today and hi-five all the koreans.

  15. T

So considering I like stuff like Nana, Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikkoku, Here is greenwood and Honey & Clover etc a lot, what would you recommend?

So something that might be a bit more leisurely and dramatic? Check out Mushishi. I also highly recommend Azumanga Diaoh. Kind of kiddy but very quirky and charming. I loved Honey and Clover too. Wish there was more than 2 seasons. Did you ever see Kareshi Kanojo No Jijuu (His and Hers Circumstances)?

Also want to mention Basilisk, which is the closest to a Ninja Scroll tv series they've ever been able to come up with.

For those into darker drama I highly recommend Monster.

  16. what are those t-shirts???

D.A.R.E was an entertaining but extremely ineffective government program to educate grade schoolers about drugs in the early 90s. Basically members from the local police force would visit schools and give a small lecture about the effects of drugs and consequence for thier use, but mostly they just handed out tons of free DARE branded stuff like rulers, shirts, etc....

I guess they're still popular because we currently have a huge population of young druggies who went through this, and everyone loves irony.
