  1. Haha! Being Norwegian, I'm of course also an avid a-Ha completist! Morten did look good in his 501s though: 2pq3q4i.jpg

(Forgive me, couldn't resist the temptation!)

In other news I just made a lousy attempt at fit pics on my way to get groceries. The left one is me miscalculating the self-timer, in the right one I'm anxiously looking at the neighbors to see if they are watching. Both pictures back-lit, hard to see the jeans.

They fit though, phew! Better pics to come.

  2. The jeans are in the house, one day ahead of schedule! I also swung by the post office to pick up a book and a record. Score! The detail shots on Standard & Strange's site are better than the ones I can manage, but fit pics to come soon.

  3. The numbers 714 and 515 are indeed dates and are separate from the actual model notations, which consist of fabric type (ex: "OA") and cut.

Does this mean that the current Standard & Strange collabo OA02-510 was officially released on May 10th, even if the announcement came a week or so later? The reason I'm asking is that I ordered a pair (scheduled for delivery the day after tomorrow - yay), and coincidentally my birthday is on the 10th of May. Seems like destiny, hope we work out well together!

Edit: I even paid for it in part with birthday money.

  4. Hmmm, I might remember wrong, in that case sorry, don't mind me! I distinctly remember comparing though, how weird. My size 30 1101s have a 7"/<18 cm leg opening, but that's after maximum shrinkage.

  5. I compared a while back and the measurements of the 1105 were almost exactly the same as my 1101 in the same size, just with a lower rise (on the former).

  6. Great updates, chicote! And thanks for the book tip too, I'll read it before my (road)trip to California in October.

Also, a current upper thigh measurement would be most welcome. I'm a bit worried about my leg (in all senses) of the tour.

  7. Not to be all about the negative, here they are now after about three weeks or so of wear (+ one initial soak and one machine wash):

And you're right Maynard, a decent tailor should be able to do it. You've given me hope, I'll check tomorrow!

  8. I broke the zipper on my new-ish replacement Oranges last week, feeling really bummed about it. :( Should add that it was my fault entirely and not a construction or quality issue, I clumsily fell over while putting them on early one morning in the dark.

I don't know how I'll go about it, I don't feel confident about doing it myself and I haven't really been happy with any tailoring that I've had done in the last few years. Changing the zipper on a pair of jeans strikes me as a bit complicated. Maybe I'll just add snaps or some type of easily removeable buttons for now and deal with it the next time I travel to a place where it can be fixed.

  9. @mandel9000 Those look great! My gf would love a pair of those but she's a 26" waist and they don't seem to be made that small.

Well, these are a size 32 and I'm usually a 30 (29-31 really, depending on cut), so a 28 might work if she can live with the fact that the waist would be a little loose. The overall slimness makes the cut pretty neat and not sloppy.

  10. Thanks guys! Much appreciated. I went around twice with a dark blue thread (zig-zag on the machine), so hopefully it will last for a good while.

  11. Mandel here are my post wash measurements BIG way-

    W- 31, R- 11.25, BR- 15, UT- 11.75, K-8.25, LO- 7.75, Inseam-28

Thanks! Leg opening is bigger than I expected, but good measurements. Let me know if you consider selling those to get a smaller size. Inseam would probably be high-water on me, but I kind of dig that style at the moment.

  12. just received my 710's today. I went with the 31's at a 30 length. I put them through a warm wash and hang dry and put them on still damp. I think the length will be perfect, The waist seems good now but I am sure when they stretch out I will have wished I got the 30.

Do you have post-wash measurements handy, lsaylor? Cheers.

  13. Helseth! Yes, that's true, he has hemmed some jeans for me in the past, but I haven't heard from him in a while. Anyways, I did it myself on my grandma's old machine and the result was okay/good enough, I must say.

  14. I received the new Oranges Friday. Interesting how the difference between size 30 and 32 is major, they look like two very different cuts on me (fit pics and comparison to come), one superslim, one quite loose and almost anti-fit.

I enquired a bit about chainstitch hemming in Norway without luck, so I just hemmed with a lockstitch last night to an unusually short 30" inseam (wanted to try the Resolute style). Looks allright.

  15. No jacket yet, but we have communicated about it. Really craving it now, especially after seeing the photos posted on the TCB site yesterday.

How much did you have yours shortened, @holio? Others that have had the jacket shortened?

  16. Not that much happening here, but I thought I'd post an update on the Orange Superslims. Funny thing is I went ahead and ordered one size up a couple of weeks ago then tried on these after, and - lo and behold - now they fit again! Well, not bad to have two pairs with somewhat different fits.

Due to tightness it's more of an overall fade than contrasty folds and creases. And the tricky winter light on my balcony makes them a little bit lighter than they are.

  17. Thanks all! Very helpful. I have two old Levi's jackets that I like the fit of. The trucker measures a hair under 36" and is a little too tight in the chest so I usually wear it open, the type II measures 40" and is quite roomy when buttoned up, even when wearing a t-shirt and a sweater under it.  I'll go with the 38 to be sure that it's not too tight.

  18. Ah, very good to know that the measurements are after wash! I think that answered my question really, a 38 would definitely fit and have some extra space for layering too (I do live in cold Norway after all), maybe even a 36 with just a shirt under. I'll measure my favourite jacket once more and decide.
