  1. Thanks! Haha, I wouldn't say I have enormous thighs (and thank god for that), but they certainly give me some minor challenges with finding the right waist-to-thigh ratio when buying jeans.

    Edit: And the 800s look great on all people here. I'm just so completely happy with the upper part of my 1000xx that I want something as close to that as possible (and make them into shorts, if not having them tapered professionally).

  2. Chyllien, Doogan, or anyone else who owns or has experience with the different cuts:

    No jean fits me as well in the top block as my 1000xx, not even close, but the lower leg is too wide for my liking. Since I more or less fill out the thighs, it looks like an extreme bootcut or even a light flare below the knee.

    I have checked and compared measurements on BiG and WH sites, and it looks like both the 1001 and the 800 are a bit lower in the rise and tighter in the hip and thigh area. Is that right? However, I have a feeling that the 1101 might fit the bill. What do you think? Same size as 1000xx or one up? I believe someone reported a lot of shrinkage.

    Thanks!

  3. I was about to take a lot of pictures for an update on the TCB Oranges, but then the camera ran out of battery and I had to run to work, so this is what I got. I have lost count of wears, but they have had two soaks and one machine wash.

  4. No engineering work for me, I sit on my ass in an office all day everyday, but my TCB 606 are on approx. 15-20 wears now and I have some wear to show for it - in a nice, quite light blue. I'm thinking about entering in the DWC with them, but given the rather tight fit I'm afraid they won't last.

  5. OT but you mention £ import duty, so I'm prepared to bet it was Parcelforce who delivered? I find if you're going to be charged duty etc, then it will more likely be with Parcelforce than anyone else. Last package they delivered to me, I swear, they invented some VAT so that they could charge me their extortionate handling fee. I can't prove it, of course because they stuck their bastard invoice label over the cn22 tag, but the vat bore no relationship to the package value, it was just a vehicle to charge me an additional £13.50!!!

    Rant over

    Well, it was EMS from Japan that went through the official Norwegian postal service on this end. I just converted the amount to a known currency. Like I wrote before, it all seems totally random. I've had some expensive stuff, obviously commercial merchandise, go straight through, and then been slapped with taxes and even bigger amounts in handling fees on stuff that cost less than a quid over the limit. All in all I guess it evens out though.

    On the jeans: I'm on my third day of wear and they have stretched quite nicely. Even showing signs of wear. I will have my mom take some pictures when she visits this weekend.

  6. Nice, thanks!

    For anyone interested, the initial measurements on a size 30, probably one-wash, were as follows:

    Waist: 29.5"

    Inseam: 33"

    Rise: 10.5"

    Thigh: almost 11.25"

    Hem: 6.5"

    After one long day of wear and a lot of movement, the waist now measures 31" and the thigh a much more comfortable 11.5". I really like the fit.

  7. I received a pair of Oranges yesterday that I ordered a while back, pulled the plug after seeing pictures of a girl wearing them on the TCB instagram. Had to pay almost £45 in customs and fees, always a game of chance - some stuff goes straight through and some doesn't, but I can live with that since the jeans are so nice.

    They look one-washed; no tags, crinkly texture, a bit of roping on the hem, plus the measurements are smaller than on the website, but it doesn't say anywhere that they are. I really, really hope so though, because they are quite tight as they are and I can't handle a lot of shrinkage. Oh well, either way a good excuse to hit the threadmill.

    Pictures to come.

  8. I'm another Steel Feather-wearer (or at the moment, non-wearer). Thing is I've gotten too fat for them. Ooooops!

    I have a pretty good reason though (knee surgery) and I'm well on my way to being my ol' slim (or at least slimmer) self again, but the jeans have been practically unwearable the past six months.

    I reckon I'll be back in business in March or so, ready to wear'em haaaaaard.  :cool:

  9. Got a small but welcome christmas bonus from work and I'm considering joining this (if it's not too late?), especially since I'm currently too fat for my HWDC2 jeans. I like the 400Z the most, as it differs a lot from jeans I already own, but I'm a bit confused about some of the measurements.

    The Tuckshop blog has these pre- and post-machine wash measurements for a tagged 32:

    Waist: 31 --> 30

    Inseam: 35 --> 33.5

    Front rise: 12.5 --> 12
    Back rise: 14.5 --> 14

    Thigh: 12.75 --> 12.5

    Knee: 10 --> 9.25

    Hem: 9.75 --> 9.25

    And yet, the UES webshop and the item listing in the Tuckshop lists the post-wash front rise measurement for a size 32 at 26 cm or 10.25", and the waist at 81 cm or 31.9". Can anyone here confirm which one it is, perhaps Obbigood? Thanks!

    Oh, and you are all looking very good!

    Edit: I searched the UES thread, which I probably should have done to begin with - sorry, and learned that 3 cm should be added to their rise measurement. All good then, but a comment on waist size from someone who owns the jeans would still be nice. Merry christmas!

  10. 11239040996_7f6f89fb5f_b.jpgJust a pair of generic Levi's 501s from the late '80s or early '90s that I inherited from my older cousin many, many years ago. I noticed the roping after giving them a wash yesterday and thought of this thread. Photos taken from both sides.

  11. I've been mostly absent (but lurking) during the past few months, mostly due to a rigorous work schedule during summer but also because I've, um, gained some weight, which has made my contest jeans a wee bit uncomfortable to wear.

    To make a long story short, I have several knee issues that prevented me from doing physical activity (again) this summer, and the extra weight always goes straight to my already quite substantial thighs. I was blissfully unaware of the weight gain until I switched from loose shorts to heavy denim when the temperature sank.  :wacko:

    Good news is I'm back on track and will be where I was before summer in no time, so expect an update soon.

  12. I haven't been able to wear my competition jeans as much as they deserve lately, first and foremost because I've - ahem - put on a little weight. My thighs are, as usual, my achilles heel, but this time it's not the upper half that's giving me grief, it's the area right over the knee.

    After I first machine-washed my Samurais, my experience was that they softened up more than they shrank and thus stretched out more nicely, so I decided to try this approach with the Steel Feathers as well. Not only did it work, they also shrank three whole inches in the inseam and solved my should I or shouldn't I hem-dilemma.

    Now, if only the warm weather would pass (no, not really!) so that I could wear them more.

  13. On second thought, I give up! Not the challenge altogether, but the trying to make my contribution look better part...

    So please don't mind the stupid look on my face (this was the only photo where I nailed the pose) or the shoddy photoshopping, or the white area between my legs; I just couldn't help it.

    Clueless is my favorite Sunday afternoon movie, I'll admit to that.

    HC-SF-81, wearing Steel Feather.

  14. This, so hard. Because of my hips, I've even had to size up to 33 to fit them in non-stretch, men's cut raw denim. But in normal women's jeans I am a 6 or 8.

    It's a pain... I don't have one single pair of jeans that fit too snug in the waist. For me if it's not the thighs, then it's the ass or the hips.

  15. ...comes in a size 30 and 31 which convert to a 12 and 14 respectively.

    Huh, I wear a size 30 (between 29 and 31 depending on fit) in non-stretch jeans, but I'm a US 8, sometimes even 6. Or so I thought...

  16. I feel like I've x-posted my entry in the HWDC2 contest everywhere by now, I just thought someone in this thread might be interested too.

    This Steel Feather cut is quite boyish, but I hope it works anyway. I'm certainly not very curvy, but I do have big thighs compared to my waist size. Photos were taken after just one afternoon of wear, the top block and thighs have stretched a good amount in the few days since.

    HC-SF-81 checking in. Steel Feather 21oz SF0121 jean. Second day of wear.
