  1. @blooming has it stayed intact? I remember when they first started doing this a couple folks tried picking the stitches and their tabs ended up disintegrating over the next few wishes, I guess just from the damage done by the bar tacks. I never wanted to risk it with mine. Maybe they’ve changed how they do it?

  2. @rodeo bill That’s really neat! I guess even without the surrounding cells still alive, the chlorophyll’s able to do its thing. I might try and reproduce that little experiment—seems like a fun one to show the younger students (“bet your socks can’t do this!”)

  3. Recently patched over a knee blowout on the M41119 that I use mostly for climbing

Did it all by hand, which I had never actually tried out before for this sort of repair, & I’m really happy with how it’s turned out

I’d had an old stock pair of these in the closet for a while still rigid. Could tell they were going to be absolute favorites, but I guess I was just saving them for a rainy day? These showed up on Yahoo for a steal, washed & hemmed short but otherwise like new. Snatched them up w/ the intention of using them mostly for climbing & yard work, since I knew the legs would be too short for regular wear. Really happy with how they’ve been wearing in, and the fit is just about perfect. Makes me look forward to the dead stock pair all the more.

  5. @indigoeagle I think the rivets shown there are indeed the round / chubby kind—compare to, e.g., the ones used at the front pocket opening

As far as I can tell (someone please correct me, otherwise??), there’s no historical precedent for the extra extra chubby backs that The Vanishing West use for the backs of their buttons & hidden rivets

  7. I’d say a 34 in standard Cane’s is about the same in the waist as a 33 in Freewheelers, although maybe borderline

They seem to have pretty consistent sizing across their main offerings, but the MiUSA run very small, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if this new line was sized differently too…

  8. @beautiful_FrEaK No, didn’t get a chance to take any photos before I started wearing them, but planning to after their first wash

More and more over the past year or so I’ve been feeling like the M41058 are my favorite jeans I’ve ever worn, and really really wishing that another pair would show up in good condition—& last month they did! These are 2 sizes larger than my other pair, but I’m around 1 size larger than I was when I got the others, so it evens out okay…

The comparison between old and new is stark: this denim takes a while to show wear, but really ages aggressively after a certain point

  9. @Hopethisoneisnttaken The crotch & butt tore through on the M41200 in 4 places just a couple of weeks ago. I’m planning on doing pretty comprehensive repairs (they’ve treated me too well for too long for me to want to just let them die), and will try & post some before and after photos

I’ve also been putting a good amount of climbing wear into a pair of M41057, which are absolute favorites (I still have a dead stock pair that I’m saving for a rainy day, but found a good deal on a second pair in my size that had been hemmed short & very lightly worn and I couldn’t resist), and a pair of M41119 that are midway through repairs right now for holes on the knees

    They work great for it
