  1. Got a pair of the ST120-x from Rivet and Hide recently. Not overly bothered about about or putting any real effort into fading them, I pretty much like them as is. However they really look like they are going to have some interesting colours popping out as they develop. Best photos I could manage with an iphone but you get the idea:

Seriously looking forward to the Kibata shadow selvedge now!

  2. A quick couple of shots of my two most recent purchases - 3Sixteen ST120-x and the Rivet and Hide English bridle leather belt. As ever, nothing but good things to say about both these products and the shop and of course Danny & Junior. The Jeans were ordered online and I took them with me on a visit to London recently, had an excellent chat with them both and also another customer (who was wearing the oldest PBJ's i've ever seen, damn does that denim age well....). Really relaxed and friendly and Junior hemmed my ST's as we chatted. Perfect.

  3. ^ C c c c combo breaker! :-)

Seriously guys, I'm no historian, globalist, psychoanalyst or similar - I just like jeans, however this page rates as one of the most interesting and thought provoking conversations I've happened across on t'internet. Who knew?!

  4. Nicely put John.

My 710's are not what I would call my 'favourite' jeans, but if I was only allowed to choose one pair to demonstrate to someone what all the fuss is about with (Japanese or any) raw denim, then it would be the 710xx without hesitation.

For me I think it is because everything is spot on or near enough - fit, cut, slub, character, details, construction etc etc. other jeans have 'this' feature but not 'that' feature amazing fabric but wrong fit, excellent details but boring/over ambitious styling. The 710xx seem to just pull it all together somehow and amazingly for all shapes and sizes....

On my first ever post here I mentioned that one of the first raw denim I tried on and was considering purchasing was the 710xx - my reason being that there was 'just something about them' :-)

But I'm a newbie too so, well, who knows eh?!

  5. Did some 'post pub' browsing on Friday night which inevitably led to a purchase.... Admittedly I had my eye on this for a while though.

Received one black bridle leather, Rivet and Hide branded belt this morning and couldn't be happier with it - beautifully made and oozing quality. Surprised at the comparatively low price point for it too, which is always a bonus. The smell is amazing - I did a bit of horse riding in my teens over the South Downs and as soon as I opened the box I was instantly transported back to the tack room of the stables - bridle leather indeed!

I'll chuck up some pics when I get home and start trying it with my various denims :-)

    Cheers guys, well pleased.

  6. Hey Ecsong, nice pick up.

    How are you finding them?

I was all set on snagging a pair of the blue owl x momotaro bom008 until those came along. Now I'm stuck - I kinda prefer the idea of having momotaro as opposed to japan blue (I will be the first to admit this is based on absolutely NO experience) but I prefer some of the details on the japan blue and I definitely would rather unsanforized. I already have a pair of 3sixteen ST120 shadow selvedge which are great, and they fill the sanforised gap in my wardrobe perfectly.

Need some help to break this deadlock!

Ps - with Max on the books, good decisions have been made there.

Edit as I have ST not SL.

  7. Really liking a lot of the details on these new OG's - especially the patch, although not a fan at all of that green selvedge. The fact they are made of organic cotton is really neither here nor there for me if i'm honest, so struggling to justify paying the (admittedly meagre) extra cost.

That said, although i probably wont bother with the 710's (still got my lot 16's which are doing me proud), does anyone know whats going on with the 0500OG? If the measurements are right i'm sure they could sway me...

  8. ^^ my 710xx lost pretty much exactly 2 inches from the inseam on their first hot soak. Been soaked again (with agitation) and machine washed (cold on hand wash setting NO spin, NO dryer) a couple of times and no noticeable extra lost.

Hope you enjoy them, they are one of my favourites!

  9. Been meaning to hop on the Full Count bandwagon for some time but keep getting distracted. Maybe I was just hoping for something a bit 'special' to come along...

If they are anything like this:

1108 model, offset belt loop behind, tiger or other camo pocket bags, 13.6 wild cotton, black laurel buttons, tag and arcs included, exclusive leather patch

You can take my money now!

Could possibly go to the 1101 but would back out at the 0105. Far too loose for me. I am well aware however that a lot of the SuFu heavy hitters seem to be playing here and a fair few favour the roomier cuts. I am not offended at the lack of clout my newbie opinion is likely to hold and will follow with interest whatever.

  10. With my 012s (same material as 009) I only really got stretch in the waist. They lost one inch with a hot soak and then stretched out by two inches - so they finished one inch above raw measurements.

The thighs were a different matter - they were tight and I was hoping for a bit of give. They lost 0.2 inch with the hot soak and stretched out by 0.3 inches - so finished 0.1 inch above raw. Believe me, I tried to increase this(lunges, squats, bike rides etc.) but after 3 weeks these measurements were unchanged.

The thighs on the 003 & 009 measure at approx 12.5 for a 31 tag size anyway so you should be fine with those. You might even be better with the 30 tag size considering the actual waist measurements, that would start you with a 12" thigh, which you would expect in a worst case scenario to go past 12" after a bit of wear, even with a soak. The 31s might be the 'safer' option and I suppose you can always belt up.

I am going by rivet and hides measurements for the 003 (same cut as 009) as their measurements were accurate to the 012 I purchased, where as other sites were not...

If you go by bigs measurements they appear to be even more roomy.

  11. Placed an order online at 11.30 (just caught the discount - cheers guys!) received immediate confirmation and a UPS tracking number by 13:10.

Retailers take note - THAT is how you fulfil web orders....

Really looking forward to receiving my Sl 120x. Danny I'm sure they will be great, the measurements look bang on. I will probably need them hemmed (want to wear them for a bit first) and am in London next Thursday. I'll pop in for a browse and a possible hem then if that's ok. As these are sanforised I'm assuming a soak/wash isn't a priority?

One more thing, are you planning to restock the black bridle leather belt in small?

  12. Right, I give in. My curiosity has the best of me.

Since my Mrs has blatantly stolen my latest purchase for herself, i'm in the market for something else. Lots of (dis)respectable people giving love to sugarcane so who am I to argue.

Leaning towards the Okinawas, purely because I like the slightly trippy arcs (if you can call them that) more than the plainer pockets. And the patch of course. And the little details like carp pocket linings. And the material. Lots to like it seems!

Now I hate to be 'that guy' but there seem to be conflicting measurements between some of the stockists and differing opinions and I can't get anywhere near a pair in person so...... If I wear Sam 710's in 29" comfortably, would I go the same with the Okis? The pair I am looking at are one wash if that makes a difference. Any comparison as regards fit would be very helpful.

Ps thats a really nice fit B_f.

  13. So much so in fact that I ended up with these pictures sent to my phone the day after:

    jSA2UQV.png

    DXILaID.png

Yes folks, she kidnapped my PBJ's, took a bath in them and claimed them as her own. Apparently, as I have the competition pair on the way, I don't need them anymore!

Edit: these pics are them drying straight out of the bath, hence the look of the material.

  14. Managed to convince the Mrs to try on my denim seeing as we are roughly the same size (she is much more 'petite' than me but being a lady has more (although just the right amount I hasten to add  ) *ahem * hip and booty as it were). Thanks again to Rivet & Hide for helping me with this after her most enjoyable visit to their store! Might hopefully give some pointers for any Women looking to get a mans jean. All of these are tag size 29. Pure blue Japan xx-012 (low) mid rise (very) slim tapered, Samurai s710 (high) mid rise (gently) slim tapered, Samurai S5000 vx (mid) mid rise straight, so a nice variation in cuts I thought!

I don't know what's going to be the best way to post, so i'll do them separately...

  15. Nice one fellas, this is a great help!

How about the 2009 and 2013 cuts from Sugarcane or something from Fullcount in their standard 13.75oz? Depends on how straight or slim you like your cuts but the denim on what I've recommended is summer-suitable. DArtisan is ultra dark and tightly-woven... I think you'd cook your legs trying to break in a pair of their standard line over the hottest months.

I definitely tend to err on the side of slimmer than straighter, i'm just trying to avoid anything that is stuck to my legs from the get go.

Sugarcane i'm very curious about but it's next to impossible for me to find them anywhere to try on, or at least put a hand to a pair and i'm a little reluctant to dive in without at least a bit of first hand knowledge. The brands I mentioned I can at least get to (albeit with a fair bit of effort hence the digging for help for a short list!) on my visits to London, during which I am usually in a bit of a rush.

I hadn't considered Full Count, mainly because I have previously tried on the 1108xx and absolutely loved them and they have been on my 'to buy' list ever since. I didn't think to try the standard model but will definitely give them a go - thanks.

Thanks too for the heads up on SDA - a fair point I had not taken into consideration.

Re tapered summer denim, LVC 44 or 66 or something from Ande Whall.

Maynard, I have looked into the Ande Whall route (in general not specifically for this) and admit to being very intrigued. My issue at present is that a one man effort like Ande or Roy feels somehow really 'serious' and at the moment while i'm finding my feet with this i'm just 'playing', if you know what I mean!

I don't really have much love for Levis these days i'm afraid ** ducks and runs for cover**, which is weird considering as a teen in the mid/late '80's all I wanted was a pair of 501's. Cue many visits to Camden and Kensington (RIP) Markets and American Classics. To this day I think the some of the coolest and most generation defining moments on TV were the Levis adverts of this period. The Marvin Gaye soundtrack to Mr Kamen stripping in the launderette or the guy getting his jeans from the fridge to the strains of Mannish Boy changed my whole musical direction and defined my (attempt at) style for this period and beyond. So for this I do admit to owing them a debt of gratitude. In my defence I did live in Levis for most of my early 20's... I do understand that the LVC of today will be very different from the bog standard 501's picked up from a Levis store in Croydon during the early 90's however!

I think maybe I am just a very typical Englishman, always rooting for the underdog and have been slightly soured towards Levis after recent events. I understand their stance completely but that doesn't mean I agree with it. Still what do I know, eh?!

Edit: i've just popped back over to the AW site. Hell they look good though....
