What do you guys think of the size on this BB41? I just received this today and was concerned that it would wear large, since the consensus from 90% of watch enthusiasts seem to think the BB36 is objectively better in every way. My wrist is about 7” and I think the watch wears exactly how I want it to. I’ve seen some other pics of people with the same size wrists wearing the 41 and it seems to wear bigger.
I actually ordered from japan last week, and at first was a little unhappy that they chose to ship with DHL, since that guarantees getting hit with customs/duty apparently. But since japan post stopped accepting US bound packages, I’m glad it turned out that way. Shipped Thursday, received today.
Please excuse finger prints on the polished bezel!

Ah yes, those peasants over there on Reddit. Why can’t they just be as refined and sophisticated as people around here are, amirite?

I’m starting to think I should have just waited and ordered my pair from self edge in May. This has me wondering though...do selfedge etc get their products delivered via japan post/ems? Or perhaps they can use some other courier like DHL.

I’m not sure I was ever counted as “in”, but since I voted in the other thread I thought it responsible to let it be known I won’t be participating. Look forward to the contest folks!

Amazingly, Naoki hemmed and shipped my canes right away through ems. So we’ll see what kind of delay we’re looking at.

^Well my timing was just perfect ordering sugar canes from Naoki today. Lol shit.

So my wife recently got into quilting. She’s made a few normal quilts for friends, family etc. A couple months ago she saw a set of boro quilting fabrics from japan and decided to have a go at a king size quilt, which is pretty ambitious, considering she’s been only quilting for under a year, and our little singer sewing machine can’t really handle the size of a king size quilt all at once. So below is her taking on the ludicrous task of hand sashiko sewing it all together, after she joined all the top panels together via machine. Thought you guys might be interested.
Edit: I should mention that it’s all cotton fabric, including the top fabric, the batting, or insulated middle layer, and back layer. All cotton machine threading and sashiko thread.

Thought I would post the progress on a pair of 5000XX that I’ve been wearing off and on for a few years. I really brought these into rotation this past October, and they’ve essentially been my around the house and yard work jeans all winter. I had these tapered at railcar a few years ago and they did a fantastic job. This is the later denim which I think was Pima cotton.

Anyone else changing up their washing regimen during this outbreak? I’m thinking it’s probably a good idea to keep clothing pretty clean these days. We’re only leaving the house every two weeks but I’ve been washing my pair after every time we make our supply run.

Did anyone else decide to pull the trigger on those? I’m on the fence and was kind of hoping one of b_f’s solid reviews would win me over haha.
I might just go for it. That fabric looks amazing.

Size 34 one-wash
Waist: 86 cm
Front rise: 30.5 cm
Thigh: 32 cm
Leg opening: 20 cm
Inseam 79/80 cmB_f, do you know roughly how Naoki measures? Similar to BiG style? Mostly wondering if he pulls the waist straight when measuring and where he takes the thigh measurement.
I emailed him and he gave me measurements for size 32 and 33 OW. I was kind of surprised that the 33 has a front rise measurement almost 1 inch higher than the 32.

I've been on the hunt for some short sleeve sweatshirts and am wondering if anyone has experience with the Todd Snyder + Champion short sleeve sweatshirts? I'm a big fan of the fit from the recent iterations of the loopwheeled sweatshirts by RMC; i.e. short hem, high armholes, thick ribbing on the hem, etc.
I have two TS x champion sweats and I really like the fit on both. I would say the quality is a little below reigning champ, but I’ve been wearing these more than my loopwheel stuff. Can’t seem to find a good fit from any of the Japanese brands, personally.
I should mention, though that both of mine are long sleeve, so no experience wi the short sleeve iteration. On both of mine, I would say the armholes aren’t very high. One reason why I like the fit so much; I personally can’t stand high armholes.

Do you know if Naoki’s pairs are non-wash? I saw that his drop down menu had NW preceding the size choices.
edit: scrolled down further and saw the OW choices.

Electro fishing is so much fun! Right now my main focus is Salmon, but have worked with many other fish/inverts and hope to not work with salmon much longer (as important as they are, I am not really a big fan work wise haha). And was going to quote you and saw another federal employee! But I'm interior. Heard budget over at the forest service is quite slim haha.
The budget seems to be getting slimmer all the time. My host supervisor was the only dedicated fish biologist in the whole department. Of course this is in the Southwest, and we don’t have a whole lot of marine life haha.

I'm a marine/fisheries biologist. Was kind of nice being deemed essential for once! Nice to see environmental agencies being deemed essential haha even if it is mainly for water/money.
I did a detail with the fisheries and wildlife folks at my agency. It was pretty awesome. Got to spend some time building beaver dam analogues and electro fishing and eDNA sampling.

I’m a financial analyst for the US forest service. We keep track of assets such as fire trucks, aircraft etc.

^ this had occurred to me as well, but take 3sixteen for example: they are literal partners in selfedge, if I’m not mistaken, and have have tons of experience with the more keen details. Hell, brands like them were insisting on chainstitch runoff on work shirts. So it does keep me wondering. Another detail that irks me about the western brands is their prolific use of thick ass cowhide leather patches. Shit doesn’t age well after washing.
3 -
Does anyone know why none of the western brands use materials like cotton thread for stitching or actual rayon woven labels, and also zinc or iron hardware? I was wondering if it’s just that the finishing factories can’t supply the materials? Perhaps it’s the cost of having them custom made in japan, and shipped to the factories.
This question might belong in the small questions thread but I hoped I might get an actual response here .

Watches and Denim

I share this sentiment too! It’s why I gravitated toward the simple black bay. 95% of people I encounter will never know what the hell it is or ever care for that matter. It’s kind of a sleeper and I like it that way.
If I ever spent big money on a watch(granted a Tudor isn’t exactly small money), it would probably be for a grand seiko. It’s amazing that in the watch circles, many feel that they just can’t spend “Rolex money” on something that has Seiko on the dial. I’d do it for just that reason; so if anyone were to ask about my watch, I could say it’s just a seiko and avoid any scorn associated with high consumption. Meanwhile only I know that it’s truly a masterpiece inside and out, and no one needs to understand zaratsu polishing etc. Kinda like everyone else just thinks I’m wearing Levi’s and I like it that way.
One day I’ll have that spring drive
