  1. Has anyone had any luck receiving items that shipped via EMS just before they got really backed up? I’ve had a package stuck in Tochigi since April 10. Wondering at what point(or even if it’s an option) I should consider opening a paypal case or counting it as a loss.

  2. Has anyone else noticed lately that blue in green ironically doesn’t measure BiG style anymore? I’ve looked at a few size charts for different pairs and thigh measurements seem to be way off.

Edit: nevermind. It might just be the pair of black sugar canes I was looking at. I thought there was another pair I was looking at with odd measurements, but most seem consistent.

  3. Within the city, you will find several high desert landscapes, such as petroglyph state park. These are ancient rock carvings done by indigenous peoples who inhabited the area long ago.

Just outside the city a bit, we have Tent Rocks National Monument, which is another beautiful natural rock formation in the high desert.

  4. Also every october, we have several “burning man” type ceremonies. The most famous is in Sante Fe, known as Zozobra.

This is a smaller one known in our community as El Kookooee. Everyone writes down their worries or fears on a paper, and they are burned along with the creation. Every year the children from the local middle school construct the figure to be burned.

We also have a Dia De Los Muertos parade around the same time  It’s known as the marigold parade, to honor those who have passed on. The three pictures here aren’t too great, but most people paint their faces as Esquelitos or skeletons.

  5. Every October(except this year, probably), Albuquerque has the International Balloon Fiesta. People from all over the world come to fly their balloons over the course of a week. It’s quite common to have balloons land in any open space across the city, including occasionally right in your back yard.

  6. I’ve always wanted to contribute to this thread, but since we’re trying to isolate it makes it kind of hard to get some new pictures around town. I thought I would highlight some very different landscapes all within close proximity to Albuquerque, NM. I hope these fit the theme of the thread somewhat.

This is the Rio Grande river that runs right through our town, and the “forested” area surrounding the river is know locally as the Bosque. There is all different types of wildlife that can be found here. Sorry about the picture quality, but below you’ll find a very blurry horned owl, porcupine, and a bald eagle, all seen on the same day a couple months ago. Easier to spot the animals before the spring brought leaves back to the trees.

The Mountains in the background are known as the Sandia mountains, and part of the Cibola National Forest. I’ll come back to those in the next post.

  7. Does anyone happen to own a pair of workers 801 straight or 802 tapered? Wondering how accurate their measurements are. Not that I’ll be able to order any time soon, but they’ve been on my radar for a bit.

Have been considering a BB36 for years; How has the design on the 41 been for you with time? Pretty no non-sense watch that can wear with anything and not look out of place, but still rugged enough as a daily. Keep talking myself into it...

The versatility you speak of is what drew me to it, actually! I’m still quite keen on it, but I’ve felt the urge to baby it and not let the mirror polishing on the bezel get any scratches. I originally wanted it because of said versatility, but found that it dresses up really well. Not sure it still would if I were to really ding the case while using it as the tool watch I intended it to be. That said, I can’t imagine where I would possibly need to be that requires a “dressy-ish” watch in the next year or so, given current circumstances :D. I’m not a watch flipper, however I still would like to keep the resale value as high as possible, if the future dictates I ever need to get rid of it.

Now, about the size; I’m about 90% loving it. With the bracelet, it has a tendency to feel and look like a solid block of metal, maybe in part due to the weight. The explorer 1 has kind of been my benchmark for this style of watch for some time, and if I could have afforded it( and also convinced myself and the wife to pay that kind of coin), I’d have probably gone that route. Firstly, because of the size, then also you get the chromalight lume and classic design etc. Man, if they had done a bb36 and a bb39, I’d have no qualms whatsoever. Then again maybe that would have been too much internal comp for the explorer, given the popularity of the bb58.

All things considered, I really do like it and I think with the super high quality construction, snowflake hands which I love, and top grade 2824 keeping cosc specs, there would be no reason for me to pay 3x the price for an explorer.

Quite honestly, the ETA is a plus for me. I’m not down with $1k service costs just for them to swap out the movement. Or at least that’s what I’ve seen rumored to be the price/procedure for servicing the in-house.

The 36 is such a strong piece too, though! If I was a vintage lover, or had smaller wrists, I probably would have gone that route.

  9. Thought I would post a follow up with the BB41 on the jacquard nato that it also came with. The urban camo seems to be hit or miss in watch circles, but I really dig it. It’s nice looking, but not quite sturdy enough for how heavy the case is, even without the bracelet.

I’m pretty impressed with the accuracy on this 2824, and I don’t normally nerd out on that stuff. Synchronized it as best I could with my atomic g shock and over the course of a few weeks it’s running pretty consistently at about +2 sec per day. Not exactly like it’s leaps and bounds better than a standard or elabore grade; it seems those can run pretty close to those specs out of the gate as well.

  10. In about 2007 or so I saw a pair of PRPS jeans in a magazine (might have been frank 151 or BPM or something) which had the mismatched laurel wreath buttons that really stood out to me and decided to do some research. I think I ended up with a pair of RRL first, then bought some barracudas. Wore them for a bit and went back to regular Levi’s etc. 2012 I bought of pair of black/black Levi’s and I remember wanting to keep them dark as long as possible. I remembered having not washed my selvedge jeans that often and thought I would do that again. This kind of reminded me about selvedge, and I ended up picking up some 3sixteens and tellasons around that same time. Started getting back into it and going the samurai and iron heart route etc in the next couple years. And here we are today. Lately I literally only want 13oz denim with those crinkly vintage fades.

  11. Yeah I’m willing to bet with the success of the BB58 they drop a smaller pelagos and some variations of the 58 too! It’s too bad we have to wait until next year, and even then it won’t be at Basel, yeah?
