  1. I dont want to start hating, but there is something about those WK's that really bother me (relatively, im not losing sleep or anything). Everything is exaggerated about them. They seem phenomenal in craftsmanship and materials, and everything seems perfect, but I think that perfection is actually bothering me. They look too perfect, too pretty. Almost laboratory in production, its kind of the anti wabi-sabi. I dont know, thats just my thoughts as of now.

  2. I have a hard time thinking of Red Kloud's stuff as boots and not some kind of leather art. Probably because I've never seen any worn-in. The level of perfection and neatness triggers some kind of uncanny valley response in my brain...a sight to behold, but I'm not sure I want them on my feet.

i feel the same way. as they are, I would put them in some display next to the vintage bottle of cognac

  3. I find a lot of Viberg stuff ugly. A brand without subtlety that rides the wave of heritage/trend lead consumerism evidenced perfectly by it's ridiculous prices and (as is sometimes reported) patchy customer service. No doubt it's all really well made but the stuff looks so underwhelming to me.

Rkusmant - what boot is that? fantastic profile.

over on the IHUK forum Brett actually registered to respond to some of the criticism. Its going to take more than one "our bad" response from the brand to make me actually consider them as an option again, but Im stubborn. What I got from them was they were not interested in my business, so I went elsewhere.

  4. I too, have suspected that the Cats Paws are being reproduced. Im not sure when thy stopped making them, but I find it highly unlikely that these pristine examples are all of the sudden being found and used. Cobblers shops are fucking filthy where the resoling takes place. these soles and heels should not be looking brand new.

  5. thanks guys. this was an event at VA Museum Contemporary Art talking about early skating and art stuff. something like that. anyway, it was beyond cool to meet some my childhood idols.

very first skateboard I got was a Powell/Peralta Lance Mountain.

  6. I think they are just "period correct" soles. They are actually quite inferior in material and application to the modern Vibrams in my experience. Although I should clarify, the Cats Paw soles I have are a bit different than those, as mine have a green dot that is larger. But they were still new old stock

  7. yea, obviously if they are rough out, no need for a brush. Although I have a stiffer bristle brush that I use on my rough outs from time tio time. same theory applies, that is to get the crap off before it starts to settle in and do what abrasion does. I always brush my shoes/boots off after a couple wears though, just to get the dust and dirt debris off. especially around the welt where it likes to set up shop and cake up.

  8. I'll look into your site more whn I have a chance, but are you able to make womans jeans that are not skinny? If I measured my wife's Gap jeans, could you basically match the cut?

  9. So, I know this has been addressed at some point most likely, but White's boots construction seem to be basically a welted veldtschoen, right? Paul T has an article on his blog that has a nice cross section of the construction method of veldts. Looking at my Whites, it appears the upper is stitched to the midsole, and then is turned out, welted and stitched down again through the midsole into the outsole. Am I understanding this correctly? I've poked around a bit online and cannot find much credible info.

one difference I notice right away is that a lot of the english veldt's are stitched all the way around. White's, Viberg's and Wesco's are only 3/4, and the heel is I guess nailed? Im trying to understand why not stitching all the way around is the preferred method...

  10. i need a pair of leather soled semi dress' in my life. i personally would go close trim (single welt stitch) for a leather sole, as I think it looks more balanced. my bounty hunters have double welt stitching and it def. looks good with the half comp sole, although I will most likely get a full vibram sole come resole time/
