You wouldn't get me in a sport coat for love or money and I teach my classes in jeans and a T-shirt. One of the best things about the job.

"Sweatpants" is a relatively recent Americanism for what I've always called tracksuit bottoms, whether of polyester or similar (Daley Thompson-style) or cotton jersey (sweatpants). Anyway, sweatpants is what I'm talking about.

It's funny to hear talk of putting on "real pants" to work (and not manual labour), where the real pants are jeans. Until the last thirty or forty years people would have been saying the same thing about putting on a suit. For that matter, there are still plenty of blogs around now where men will tell you that jeans are inappropriate for anything other than leisure, or even that men over thirty (or forty, or whatever arbitrary number they pick) should only wear chinos and "slacks" (does that term sound just as comical to other Brits?). I find them really entertaining actually. I find it interesting the way that trends have shifted over the last twenty years so that jeans have shifted a place up the formality scale, and leisure wear (in the UK, read "tracksuits") has come in to fill the place they vacated. The people who sneered at young people or perceived commoners for wearing jeans forty years ago are now sneering at young people or perceived commoners for wearing trackies. (None of this is a comment on anyone here, just some thoughts inspired by the discussion.)

My 311s arrived the day after I left the country for a few days so I didn't get them till Tuesday. Soaked and then washed at 30 degrees on Wednesday. Raw fit in first pic, post-wash in second (obviously). Fit is slightly slimmer than I anticipated in the leg but not too slim (I hope - thighs might get bigger again once I get over my patellar tendinitis). And I bought them to be a slim pair anyway. I think the waist will be spot on. If it stretches further than I'd like it won't matter too much cos I also went for a shortish inseam. Long term I see these as jeans for the summer.

I only got back from a trip abroad on Tuesday. Soaked and washed yesterday, wearing today. But the initial pictures thread now says it's closed to replies. Should I post them here?

@Alec Leamas Yes my tracking is saying the same finally! If they also make it into my house without being stolen off the doorstep I'll be starting on Wednesday...

Yep, still the same. "Your parcel has left its origin country and is on its way to the UK." Perhaps someone's rowing it here.

Mine are on Parcel Force tracking as well. According to which they left Italy on 11.01 but haven't yet arrived in the UK.

You're in the UK right, @MJF9? I'm a bit puzzled as to why mine don't seem to have left Italy yet, according to tracking. Doesn't look like I'm going to have them in time for the start date cos I'm away on the 16th till the 21st.

Is there an estimated date for these to ship? I'm not in a rush; it's just that I'll be away from home on the 17th, when the contest starts. If I've got them by the 15th I can take them with me. Otherwise my start will be delayed.

@AlientoyWorkmachine Were they raw or one-wash? I have a pair of 800xx in 34, after the consensus seemed to be to size up, but they're far too big for me. I was going to have another go at getting rid of them at some point but if they're going to shrink a lot maybe I should hold on to them and stick them in the washer.
