  1. I didn't really like the Anode Comps at first and didn't give them any attention. I was bored last week and decided to try a pair on while picking up some ski gear and loved them. At first I was a little hesitant as the price is a little out of my comfort zone but these are my only true winter pants.

@rjbman if you like the cut, try the Voronois. They're similar in pattern, save the contrasting hem. The fabric won't be nearly as beefy but great summer and fall options

Are those the Japanese TNF pants? If so, tell me more.

also sry hope ur not tired of my pics but i did try the haedn OS and surprisingly i was able to barely get it under the indisce 3/4. It was plenty warm for 50F without sun actually. I like that I can totally unbutton it to dump some heat and it still works well thanks to the shirt-jacket silhouette. Good midlayer

    ETi1nc0.jpg

those of you w/ Haedn pieces, how are you guys using them? temps/conditions, styling, etc

Agh the collar pop. I personally can't wear the Haedn stuff as a midlayer. The cuts are restrictive enough on their own and under a shell or coat, they get impossible to move in. I couldn't really work either the OS or jacket into my life and will be selling both. They really only work as individual pieces. All of the lookbooks with the Haedn stuff layered under are viscerally great but constricting and defeat the purpose of AV. It was also difficult to wear the Nomin with either jacket as pilling would be guaranteed. I also ran hot in both.

I will be keeping the Anode Comps. These pants really deserve more attention

  3. @Alexi12345 I can throw some up tomorrow. I've been wearing the Arris daily. Though I was rather ambivalent about it at first, I love this jacket now. The large pocket is so useful and the laminated pocket inside makes storing and accessing keys so easy. If you live in any part of Canada outside of Ontario you will probably struggle to use it as a winter shell. The jacket is rather slim and layering is limited. I can fit a hoodie or squeeze a Mionn IS Comp underneath. The real challenge are the slim sleeves.

Can I ask for what reason the jacket was warranted for? IMO you're getting a pretty sweet upgrade from your pervious jacket and I wouldn't take advantage of Arc's generosity. I'm guilty of it too, but I'm afraid with everyone trying to swing a deal from Arc that one day they're going to get stricter with their "warranty" program. It doesn't make sense to me trying to negotiate the price difference between regions. That's like trying to buy a BMW in China for the German MSRP. I get that the Arris isn't in stock and you'd like a replacement right away but trying to haggle on something that you're already getting a deal on isn't the right approach. I recall the Factory store having some Align jackets not too long ago. Try asking if they'd make an exception and go through the effort of getting you one from there. Otherwise ask to see if they have any "factory seconds" Arris jackets. I was in a similar position as yourself when I warrantied my Galvanic and gladly took a second. There is absolutely no difference in quality.

  4. I think they purpose of the "bloat" is to enable you to lean forward. I've found that lots of the insulated AV jackets have a similar cut at the hem.  When you you lean forward or are sitting down it provides a little more volume for movement, making the garment less constricting

  5. I think it's important to recognize that the majority of AV revenue comes from people outside this forum. It's easy to get into this insular thinking that all AV customers are the same as the SuFu hive mind. The majority of the people that I know who buy AV aren't tech nerds. They don't hunt for sales, spend hours deciding between jackets or post their questions about use case for discussion on this thread. They have a crazy disposable income and buy AV either for vanity or like the technical satorial offerings. Simply put, they don't quite understand the full features of the jackets or pants that they're wearing but buy it because they like it (for whatever reason) and just because they can. While I spends days contemplating a purchase, the people I know stop by the store weekly and pickup whatever catches their eye. A conversation with the owner of a local AV stockist reveals quite the same demographic

Recently bought my 1st pair of apparats from Cruvoir. When I opened the seemingly new bag, I noticed some residue on the inner pant leg opening.

Called their CS(Cody), and he rudely told me that the pants are definitely NOT worn, come directly from Arcteryx warehouse, and that the white residue is from the steaming process.

Is there any truth to this or is this BS? To me, it looks like wear marks, but I generally don’t steam clothes. Wondering if this is normal?

Sending images via iPhone so excuse photos if they’re too big.

I tried on a pair of Anode Comps this week. The NYCO hem had those grey marks as well. Guess its normal

Quoinn jacket is much thinner than Mionn. It can be packed into one of its pockets. It packs very small. It’s cut a little larger than the Veilance blazers but still slim fit and with insulation.

I wear it solo up to 15-18°C, under Arris or Field jacket down to 0-5°C.

    Do you have other questions?

I've found the underarm gussets on the Field to to be cut rather high and limit layering. Do you experience any discomfort layering the Quoin?

  8. Cool I'll start with the Arris and do the Field OS in due time.

    Arris Review

I've had the Arris for a little while now and been using it as my daily shell. Though it is designed is a next to skin shell, I have been able to layer a litte under it. I mostly wear Reigning Champ sweatshirts and hoodies. For those unfamiliar, the Arris is an amalgamation of the Actuator and Composite jacket. It merges the pattern of the Composite with the full GTX construction of the Actuator. However, the Arris does not have a dedicated self pack pocket.

I won't provide a temperature rating as warmth is subjective. Expect the jacket to perform as all other mid-weight GTX shells.

    Fit

The Arris is a slim cut GTX shell. Taking your mainline hardshell size will achieve a next to skin fit -- though sleek, possibly restricting. For reference I wear a S in the Alpha LT and SL and took a M in the Arris. I wear M in the Field OS, Haedn and Blazer LT. This jacket is a tailored option and looks considerably better than the baggy mainline garbage bags. The jacket comfortable accommodates a medium weight RC sweat or the Field OS. Those looking to layer a Mionn underneath will struggle. The only insulated midlayer that fits is the Mionn IS Comp. I do find that the storm hood is cut to fit close when worn down. This becomes problematic when trying to layer a hoodie underneath. The collar is cut to slightly towards the wearer when fully zipped and can get tight with a hoodie, making it difficult to burry your face in the storm hood collar. I do wish the chin guard was bigger. This isn't a problem unique to the Arris but I would like to see AV pieces feature bigger chin guards.

The underarm gussets mitigate jacket ride-up up to shoulder level. Raising your arms higher will result in the jacket riding up. There isn't much articulations in the shoulder and the jackets can get constricting when reaching forward.

The sleeves are cut slim but have ample volume to accommodate a sweater. When wearing a sweat, bent elbows can get tight. The cuff uses the iconic notched construction for extended thumb mobility. Though somewhat useful, this is more for visual interest and the tips of the cuff get dirty easily. Unlike the composite, there are no Cobrax snaps to adjust the cuff. Instead a small piece of plain weave elastic is used. Don't worry, it isn't the same as the wavy Nemis ribbing. I have yet to experience any deformation.

Overall, at the expenses of full mobility, the Arris sits wonderfully over a t-shirt or sweat. For a sleek look, you won't another shell.

    Utility

The Arris has two clandestine features that dramatically improve functionality. Next to the right hand pocket is a larger pocket. Inside is stretchy laminated pocket. There is enough space to store a Switch or large notebook. I typically keep my wallet and keys in here. It's important to note that the Arris pocket zips are difficult to operate. Unlike the Field where the zipper is on the jacket covered by a concealing flap, the Arris pocket zips are place on the reverse of the concealing flap. This makes pulling the zippers down difficult since less force is acting on the tensile axis to keep the flap taut.

    RotS0ad.jpg

There is another stretchy pocket laminated on the left interior of the jacket. It's pretty useless as its too small for a phone or wallet and bulges too much when used to store keys.

The defining feature of the Arris that most notice is the notched hem. There is a hem offset of an inch and half, lending more weather coverage in the back. The notch lines up nicely with the slant pockets on the Align and make for easier access. The notches will not compliment top entry pockets like the Voro, Anode or Indice.  Beyond improved pocket access, the notches are purely for visual interest. Note that sitting down with the jacket fully zipped is not flattering as the front hem bends forward and looks like the hem is about to rip at the notch seam.

Gore C-Knit composes the entire jacket. The face fabric is supple to the touch and the C-Knit backer is comfortable for next to skin wear. I have hear of cases where the backer greatly discolours to direct contact with skin. I have yet to experience this but can imagine that overtime I will notice the effects too.

    Summary

Buy this jacket if you want a slim agile shell to accompany you on your daily urban commute. Layering is possible but if you're coming from a mainline shell, you'll find limited options. There are a variety of storage options but the jacket needs great refinement is most these areas. The notched cuff and hem are cool and offer some utility but don't expect them to reinvent the shell experience. Oh, I'll say this again, if you can justify this jacket, then you shouldn't hesitate to purchase the V2 Nomin. I've mentioned a lot of unsavoury elements about this jacket but am still happily enjoying it; however I found much great use and price utility in the Nomin V2. A LOT more work goes to making Nomin.

EDIT: Hats off to @larssss for making a killer shell that unequivocally replaced two fan favourites: the Actuator and Composite.  But if anyone has a Composite for cheap let me know. I want

  9. So I've had a few people reach out to me asking for more in-depth AV reviews after I did the Nomin V2 review. Let me know if there are any items in particular you would like. I currently have the Arris, Field, Field OS, Voro and Align pants with me.

probably early/mid feb. i think apparats only come in like, khaki (true khaki iirc, not playa or utility) and black. the grey (ash) you mightve seen was the dyadic comp pant, which is like a merino/nylon blend + terratex + merino jersey inner construction

  11. Arc struggles to make composite pieces as most machine operators highly specialized and and you can image an insulated crew is made and cut drastically different from a jacket. From the way the the baffles lay on top of your skin as opposed to another layer to the way insulation has to be mapped for a next to skin fit, the process is very difficult and sensitive.

The way these look books work is that they first feature the whole forecasted line up (2 years in advance) and as the season approaches, revisions are made and items are finalized or scrapped. If you look at the actual sharedrive copy of these look books you'll see they're full of sticky notes denoting changes. Items get cancelled all the time (mostly composite pieces like the Geom and Scend in FW 14).

  12. Do they leave a mark on surface when you take them off? I'm leasing and move a lot. I know what you mean, I use to use S-hooks to hang my packs and left quite a indent in my Arro 22 handle.

Also, what do you use your Seque tote for aside from wearing it on your head. Are there any benefits to it over a normal tote?

  13. Thanks a lot @branespload, really appreciate it.

Re bottom button, I should have specified. The weird creases I mentioned, form when you're walking or have your hands in your pocket

edit: I really like your hanging system for all your bags. Are they just ikea hooks?

  14. Rule applies to all lapel collared jackets and coats. NEVER button the bottom button on a suit jacket. It's both a general rule and makes the silhouette stiff and will cause unwanted creases when moving. I would reason it is especially true for longer coats as it will impede movement more and again just blasphemy

The Graph Cardigan has been a big suprise for me, in terms of versatility. It’s slim enough to fit under a lot of stuff (my Mionn vest and jacket, my Achrom...) but warm enough to be worn on its own even in pretty cool conditions. Also looks sharp af.

I was interested in the graph but am worried it will be too slim for me. Aside from having pockets, any intel on additional changes? If you can't share publicly, feel free to PM me.

which outerwear/layers do you have? visually i really like nemis under arris or isogon. graph cardi works well under just about anything, looks best under indisce 3/4. quoin vest is nice under doeln. mionn IS under monitor coat. that sorta thing. a lot of the ecomm and lookbook pics are layered/styled as intended anyway and it usually looks pretty good.

the one unorthodox way i like to layer is conduct anorak under stuff like the indisce 3/4 and field overshirt for that more streetwear hood-under-hoodless-jacket layered look. i prob have posted fits with these layers at some point and i can do it again i just dont wanna spam the thread with my own fits lol

I have the Arris, Partition, Actuator, Field shell, Field OS, Haedn jacket and OS, Isogon terratex, Blazer LT, Galvanic and Frame LS. I know its mostly outerlayers but any recs for pieces I should buy would be welcome.

I champion utility and am not a fan of the Conduct under other items. Feel free to post new fits or revisit old ones. -

  17. Does anyone have any AV layering systems they'd recommend? As easy as it is for me to pair a jacket with pants, I struggle to do much layering. So far I've only liked wearing the Field OS under my Arris.

  18. I'll be honest. For me, the choice between the V1 and V2 is clear. There are just so many things wrong with the V1. The straps are uncomfortable, pull into your pits, and the ladder lock slips easily. The zippers are cumbersome around corners. The front pouch takes up almost the entire front compartment. The bag collapse on itself and has a terrible sag. I'd get terribly fatigued with just a laptop in it.  The bungee cord can get caught and becomes difficult to fasten. In retrospect, I was never happy with the bag and tried my hardest to like it because it was Veilance. I would buy an Arro 22 or Velaro over the V1 Nomin any day.

@branespload is right. As a high capacity travel bag, the V1 is much better than the V2; however, I would elect to get another bag if you really want a bag to dump stuff. There is very litter organization in the V1. I've never really felt the rattle that everyone talks about. I travel with just a 13" MBA and both the bag and laptop stay firm planted on my back. Then again, I'm not sure what this magnetic feature talking about is. I don't notice it at all.

All in all, if you want an everyday work bag with a plethora of organization features, get the V2. The straps are unreal, and shape sleek and understated. If you want a high capacity travel bag, don't bother with the Nomins. Let me know if you have any questions about what the Nomin can fit.
