  1. I wonder if this new natural indigo model is rope-dyed or hand hank-dyed?

The price tag is a bit steep though, I've seen very well made natural indigo jeans at 30, 000 to 40, 000 yen....at 63, 000 yen this seems like more of a "buy it and frame it" garment rather than pants you'd wear daily.

    They are hank dyed.

The price is high but no higher than the S5000AI-10SPs were. The exchange rate just sucks a lot more now than when those came out.

  2. So is the LHT side a lot softer than the RHT?? or are the two sides pretty much the same
personally, I don't feel a big difference right now. but aybe it's because there's still some starch left in the fabric so both aren't that soft

I don't either, both sides feel the same to me.

  3. I vote for an exception in that case and in the case someone wants to buy one of the new 24oz PBJ. At least it's a denim that' not already in this contest we only can benefit from it
    Sounds ok to me.

To be honest, I dont really have a massive problem with anyone joining slightly later, as it is no advantage to them, especially if their denim or lifestyle brings something new to the comp.

We can go too over the top though, as it is meant to be a 2 year comp, not an 18 month comp.

The PBJ 24 oz. models should be out within the next month or two, so it'd still be a lot closer to 2 years than 18 months.

  4. Does anyone here have experience with the SDA sweatshirts? I'm thinking about getting the indigo-dyed one from BIG.

I have a navy hooded one. They are really nice, what do you want to know about them?

  5. I am probably going to give it another wash to try and get more shrinkage outta the knee area.

what do you guys prefer to shrink denim?

    1) hot wash (take out before spin) + dryer (take out before 100% dry) + hang dry

    2) hot wash (take out before spin) + hang dry

I'd imagine that option 1 would give you a little more shrinkage.

  6. Hi guys,

I guess I´m the newest participant here. I heard of the championship a bit late and asked if I could still join – hope nobody minds a new face around here. Anyway: this is me, wearing my S5000VX 21 oz and a stupid face:

    1.JPG

They´ve had roughly 2 months of wear by now - I don´t have any more detailed pics ready right now, but I´ll make sure to take some good ones as soon as possible.

So much for now – happy I can be part of this! :-)

    new faces are great, welcome....
Looking good Dingo, cant wait to compare evo on the 5000VX.

Wait a minute, if his jeans have had about 2 months of wear by now, doesn't that mean he started too early to be in this contest? Or is this contest flexible about the December 1st start time?

  7. why not soak them right now? taken 99% of the shrinkage out and then stretch them. but do as you like :)

I've found that once unsanforized denim has been stretched out once, it stretches back a little more easily with further soaking and shrinkage. After the first soak, these were tight enough in the waist and hips that I didn't want to risk popping a button shrinking them even more until I got some stretch.

  8. oh yeah..you were missing. I didn't want to check the whole thread and search for your pics :D

do they fit they way you wanted them to?

So far, so good, Tilmann. I sized down one from my true waist on these and have done one hot soak. The waist and hips are still tight, but the seat has already stretched out a fair amount, and the legs are a bit wider than I was expecting from how others have described this cut.

I'm going to wear for maybe a week, get the waist and hips stretched out a bit, and then do another hot soak, I think.

  9. so everybody posted fit pics already? I think everybidy besides mactaran our russian friend

I haven't yet. I got a late start to these but just started wearing them yesterday. I'll try to get up fit pics within the next week or so.

  10. got these in the mail last week! I had to get them tapered a bit because of my skinny legs but the lady did a great job! :) I'm wondering how much these would stretch and any pointers on the wears?

Nice fit, are these the 703s?

I'm not familiar with the denim on the women's models, but if it is anything like that of the men's models, it won't stretch much.

Raaawr, give them jeans a hot soak and wear them to they cry! Nice pick up ;)

Not 100% sure, but I think those come one-washed.

  11. Hmm...if the XX-012 is 24oz too, I wonder what the denim will look like.

Will it be as slubby as the XX-007 if they use a heavier thread?

Or will it be a different texture with indigo warp/weft?

It'll probably be a different texture but still have the indigo warp/weft. From my experience, really heavy denim (21 oz. and over) tends not to be very slubby, regardless of the brand.

  12. Guys...my true waist is 32.5", but I wear 013 in size 29...

should I get the same size in 007 or 009? their waist measurement is very big, and shrink a lot according to the wash chart on BIG..but i'm pretty sure they will stretch to raw measurement again?

You could get the same size in the 007, but that cut has narrower thighs than the 013 and doesn't run quite as big in the waist. I found that sizing up one from my 013 size worked well with the 007.

For the 009, I don't know for sure, because I don't have direct experience with that cut. It looks a lot looser than either the 013 or the 007. From the measurement charts, it looks like it runs a little bit bigger than either of them as well. I'd probably go with the 29 in that one if I had to order for your waist size.

  13. X-posted from the Heavyweight Denim Championship thread:

Fit pics of the SDA D1496. These are 23 oz. LHT with a zip fly and some Lee-inspired details. The fit is based on one of Lee's early 1900s models, but I actually find it fairly similar to the SD-103.

I included some detail shots from Vintage Paradise on Rakuten for people unfamiliar with this model.

These were going to be my second pair, but it's been cold here lately up until a couple of days ago, so I started a little early on them (12/18/10).

  15. I picked up the indigo dyed loopwheel sweatshirt a month or so ago.

Got some sauce stains on it during a drunk night...

How would one go about washing it?

To minimize indigo loss, I would hand wash it. if that's too much trouble, or if the stains are too stubborn, you'll have to go with the machine wash. I would recommend something like Dr. Bronner's for detergent.
