  1. I stopped into the Levi's Vault exhibit last week and they had redone their wall display- its a series of Levi's women's clothing from over the years. A couple of pieces were really interesting:

In 2000 LVC put out a men's jacket that looks to be from this same line:

    This was good too:

  2. Looking good, setterman. Perfect fit on those.

I went into the SF LVC shop today to look at a few things (after the manager finally got off the phone with some character named "Cory"):

The very beautiful '20s mackinaw in a nice windowpane/buffalo plaid. I think I said in the thread earlier that this was priced at $750- I must have looked at it wrong or maybe they dropped the price, its $625.

    Also:

A restock on the made in San Francisco Sunset chambrays- unlike the previous batch this one has the correct sellvedge detailing under the collar and looked very good. Also had the same hand-done looking wandering stitching that entertainment! pointed out earlier on his checked pop-over.

  3. The worst thread in superdenim.

I'd rather be reading the Nudie thread.

I'd rather read through dozens of pages worth of people asking how many sizes down they should take in 710xx in the Samurai thread.

I'd rather be reading the "Post your DUCKS!!!" thread, ESPECIALLY if it's about quacking ducks (of course, it's not.)

Actually I guess this entire subforum is pretty bad.

    Then read the Nudie thread.

    Problem solved.

Oh, except for the problem of your need for external validation of your lame teenage opinion.

  4. ^You gave it to me.

I did like the bits about the early behind-the-scenes Levi's history- for example that Levi's domineering sister didn't want him to have any children of his own, so her sons would inherit the business, and so set him up with a continuous supply of ladies of easy virtue who were completely unsuitable for marriage.

  5. Thx Roy6! I am standing in the Inyo mountains overlooking Saline Valley. Gruesome hike in one day 14 hours straight in above 100 degree weather (nicknamed the Beveridge Death March) with some of the Harris Family. Couple days later it was a 12 hour hike out of the canyon. I need to update my blog with photos from the trip to one of the hardest ghost towns in the west to get to but also one of the most beautiful places on this planet.

If you remember, please pm me when you do.

  6. I stumbled across a pretty cool vintage-y shop and found this jacket which labels itself as being made from front quarter horsehide and looks old and beat up enough (though the leather's still remarkably strong) to be an original bomber jacket... but I know next to nothing on this front. Can anyone more knowledge offer some illumination? Unfortunately I only had a camera phone with me.

I think that was a San Francisco company, I believe they were operating in the '40s, and have seen another nice horsehide jacket from them. I would guess not an official military jacket with that label, but it looks fantastic anyway. If the price is under $150, it's a good deal, unless it's falling apart.

Ray- that jacket looks great, could you post a fit picture? I've never heard of anyone doing as good a job with repairs as Aero, unfortunately. Maybe it would be worth the wait...
