  1. I originally bought this horsehide A2 in Tokyo for ~1300$ US. The fit isn't as comfortable as I'd like --it *might* stretch, but I don't want to risk it. I've only worn the jacket a handful of times; the leather itself is in beautiful condition, and the knits are basically perfect.

Nearly everything Buzz Rickson makes is incredible, and this jacket is no exception. The grain on the leather has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.

    Price: 700 Shipped

    Size 40

Measurements (please check the "How We Measure" page on SelfEdge.com for reference!)

    Shoes have sold!

  2. I don't want to live in a world where guys sweatshirts are shorter than strike gold's.

Have you ever tried on an old-style Buzz Rickson sweatshirt? They're shorter than SG. You're living in that world, Ben!

edit: I actually think the indigo dyed SG sweats are as short as I'd like them to be, but I could never get the regular version to shrink nearly as much.

  3. gimme more pictures of that A-2!!!!! :-)

    Done!

And it's a Roughwear model, which has always been my favorite.

Here's another Buzz Rickson uniform for the thread:

Hoping/praying the shoulders give a little more...

  4. It would be pretty interesting to see a side by side comparison between the Canes and the Buzz jeans. Lazy of me, but I had assumed they were the same denim but with different details and a tweaked cut.

The 40s Buzz jeans and the 1947 are pretty similar, but the fabrics are slightly different (the buzz jeans are lighter, I think). The 50s jeans weigh the same as the 47, but the denim feels a lot burlier.

I'll take comparison shots within the next few days.

  5. James, if you could've sized/stuck with the first 1947's you ever got... man would those be legendary.

Ha, thanks. I think I got my actual "first" pair 4 or 5 years ago, but I ended up selling them for the same reason. The 1947 is always kinda/sorta in my life...

I for one am looking forward to seeing how that pair above turn out - definite potential for grail status. I passed the six month mark on mine the other week and damn if the 1947 aren't just one of the best models of jeans on the market. Totally love them.

Thank you! I am putting these on the back burner for a bit, though. I just bought a pair of Buzz Rickson 1950s jeans, and I'm quite enamored with them. The cut is probably my favorite out of all the jeans I've ever had.

  6.

chinatown; osanbashi and red brick are nice if you are out on a date

shin yokohama ramen museum: honestly, some of the best ramen i've had came from here; usually some unknown famous-for-the-locals spot

    shin yokohama skate park

    that's about it

We ended up going to Kamakura instead, which I think was the right move (I was initially under the assumption that it was farther away).

i always get my hair cut at Freeman's Sporting Club in Aoyama. It's like 4,000 yen plus tax. They do a sick job and also do scissor based fades. They use baxter and aesop. It's a huge plus. Other American inspired barbershops are like 6500+.

Freeman's is open everyday but try to go before 3pm. They stop taking appointments at 5ish

edit: figured it out, and I'm very happy with my haircut.

  7. Are those raw or OW?  I ask because you said you have long legs, but have a pretty decent double cuff there, and when all the shrink is gone from my pair they finished at 31.5" for an inseam (not long!).  If OW, I'd think you could go down a size.

1001 is a great regular fit jean, and I'm very pleased with the pair I'm wearing for the DWC.

From the pics the denim looks like one-wash so he might be in luck  :)

They are indeed OW, so I'd need a hem. And I could probably fit into a 31 or a 30, but I don't like the way the proportions change on jean sizes below 32.

Man, I was kinda hoping to grab some Buzz Rickson jeans this trip (for maximum brand synergy!), but these fit so well!

  8. ^ The 1001 is almost certainly my next pair of jeans once I've worked through my SC 47s. I also tried them on in Daikanyama and loved the fit (surprisingly because I didn't two years ago in Osaka!). The fit is a slimmed down, more tapered take on a late 40s style and they are made from the WH Banner denim, which is based on a 1930s Levi's banner and made from three US cottons. The cut seems really versatile, like it would work with everything from work boots to low top sneakers.

Much obliged! What I like is that the rise is still pretty high, which is often my main concern when it comes to buying jeans (my legs are long and my body is short, making nearly every high rise jean look low on me). This may have been my imagination, but the rise seemed higher than the 47s I'm currently wearing.

edit: here's how they fit me, if anyone's curious.

  9. I'd love to see the back pocket sans star! How'd it turn out?

    Qkxaflz.jpg

Picked up some raw '66s from Frisbees and I am pretty pleased. It took me a damn hour to remove that back pocket star, though.

  10. Anybody out there with one of the BR mock twist chambrays?

I'm curious to hear how it compares in weight & texture to the USN chambrays or get any other impressions.

    Cheers.

I have the black version, and it's thicker than the white/blue chambrays. It's cut a bit longer, too.

  11. Where should I buy Kalita stuff in Tokyo? I won't be living within walking distance of any good cafes (unless there's something near Meidaimae station I don't know about), so I'd like to buy a kettle and some filters. I already have the Wave and a hand grinder.

    edit: and thanks, warakia

  12. Would it be possible for me, an American, to extend (or, "reset") my tourist visa? My girlfriend and I will be staying there for the 90-day limit, but our jobs are such that we don't *have* to come back that soon if we don't want to. Would traveling a bit outside of Japan for a week or two suffice to reset the count?
