I don’t think it’s ever been any secret that Lofgren holds weirdly strong views against Chinese sourcing & manufacturing
or
It’s true that his past comments have probably gone beyond what’s justified, but I hardly think it’s fair to conflate a distrust of Chinese & Indonesian manufacturing in general with any sort of hard feelings towards the cultures or the people—there’s an undeniable history of low quality, mass-produced goods coming from these countries, and we can’t all go around proudly touting our MiJ & MiUSA goods without recognizing that that designation comes with the implication that MiC goods are, on average, expected to be worse
I don’t really see where Lofgren’s coming from here, or why he bothers with that whole schtick, but the person responding also kinda just seems like they’re getting offended for the sake of getting offended, which annoys the hell out of me
(I say this all as someone who currently has a pair of boots on order from China for which I’m extremely excited, and which I expect to be right on par with my Lofgrens in terms of both construction & materials)
Think you hit the nail on the head , the things I’ve seen about John Lofgrons views on ethical production are very admirable , and his distain for Chinese production is more than likely based on the exploitation of low paid workers
think the intent of the hashtags were just misunderstood

Cheers mate. It’s definitely based on old designs - the only thing I didn’t like about the sweat was FW had attached a hood and then cut it off (well more likely they sewed a piece of fabric to make it look like that) - but it looked gash, so I just unpicked it from the collar
That is a bit strange , I'm sure you've seen vintage afterhoods with the hood cut but it's a bit like a pair of distressed jeans to intentionally design it that way

You look the part anyway
love that sweat and the angle of the pockets . think ive seen vintage Utica sweats with the same angle on the separate pocket style

Remember there were loads of those old mill reef trainers on ebay years ago ( 10 or 12 ?? ) , weren't all that expensive either . Regret not getting a pair because they really do look the part

Most of the talked about brands have had one in there lineup at one time or another . Warehouse should currently have 1 or 2 different models available and tcb have one aswell

Great to see the jacket MJF9 ...
... as well as the jeans comparison shots Flash. Is the cut pretty similar between WW2 and 46? Thoughts on the WW2 vs. 47 denim -- does the latter shrink more?
The cuts are pretty similar but the ww2 does taper a little from the knee to the hem
The 47 definitely shrinks a good amount but more importantly than that there is next to zero stretch from the fabric

The difference in size between the coin pockets is perplexing, as the sz 31 have a much larger c.p. than the sz 33's(?)
@Flash the thing that happened with the belt loops, the exact same thing happened with Lvc. It looks like (to my inexperienced eye) that the quality may be slipping by corner cutting??
?? Wouldnt say they were anything less than the usual conners quality I've encountered but that's not saying he couldn't be cutting a corner here , anyone who has tried to order a pair in the last few years has seen the increasing wait times so there has gotta be some trade off with increased volume

Ww2 up next
Old pair uses the ww2 denim and the new pair are made with the 47 denim
Pair on the right uses black thread in the chainstitch, this is seen on some Levi's in the late 30's and caried on into the early s501xx models ,not certain but I think it could have disappeared after the first year of the s501xx
Quite different pocket shapes on these
And this pic is just to show the difference in the ww2 and 47 denim shrink/stretch rates . Both pairs have been washed and worn so should be shrunk /stretched to there final shape
The 46 ( ww2 denim ) on top are a 31 and are just a fraction of an inch smaller than the size 33 ww2 ( 47 denim ).

Sun came out for a bit today ( wasn't for long though ) so I decided to do a pit of a comparison between the 2 46 and ww2 pairs
First ups the 46
Plenty of space in the new pair since I've sized up 2 from the 31's below
Quite different shapes to the coin pockets . You probably wont be able to see it from the picture but the rivets have on the worn pair are all branded whereas the new pair have I mix of plain and branded
He has also started using branded rivet back instead of the usual universal brand rivets
The belt loops on new pair have a lot more material folded under compared to the older ones
definitely an intentional choice to do this because all the belt loops are pretty consistent in there length
Same configuration of buttons
Steel on the new pair and copper coated on the old
One Of the best improvements Yoshiaki has made ( imo ) is switching the rayon he used for the tabs , the early models tab was very thick and didn't have the same feel as vintage Levi's

That jacket already looks great and it's only gonna get better with wear , definitely the best wear I've seen on a denim jacket

Cool , I'll.try and get some decent pics tomorrow . Hate this time of year , 4 o'clock and it's dark already

Thanks lads
Was maybe gonna do a bit of a comparison between the 2 ww2 models and 2 46's I have if there was any interest ? Dont want to spam the thread with all my posts but not many people posting here anymore

Been washed twice at 60 mate so I doubt another is gonna make much difference at this point , I'm ok with the length but that extra inch would make a difference

Had this Makita for a good few years and it’s great for round the house jobs , tried bringing it to work for a bit and the batteries didn’t last
my mate swears by parkside , it’s a brand carried by Lidl and I think a combi from them is about £80 . He’s one of those fellas who has a tool for everything ... shed like Aladdin’s cave so they must be decent enough
