  1. ^This. I've a pair of the Caribous and I would say it's a slim regular fit, as you have already deduced. The rise and thigh measurements are what steered me toward them. I think it's a more flattering fit for guys who prefer regular cuts.

  2. Well, I ended up buying the last regular gray loopwheeled sweatshirt on sale at BiG. While it is not as thick as the Heller's hooded sweat (which I now suspect is more on par with Buzz, McCoys, etc.), it is a nice fit, weight and quite comfortable. I'm happy with the $100 I saved instead of ordering the sweat with the applique overseas. Thanks for all the input, fellas.

  3. Looks good, man. Can you compare the heft/weight of the fabric with anything else? I have a WH/Heller's sweatshirt that is nice and dense, but your comment leaves me with some reservation about proceeding with my order.

  4. Any of you have experience with WH sweatshirts? Specifically the ones with print or felt appliqué? Deciding between a 40 and 42. When I've tried on other garments (tees and shirts) the sizing seems to be all over the place. Based on site measurements, the 42 seems a bit large, but I'm trying to figure out if I should factor in shrinkage as I plan to just wash and dry as I would any other garment.

  5. Yeah xchen, I thought it would save time, but I think because there were fewer places to go for early voting the result was a bit worse than if I'd waited to go to my designated polling station.

Three hours? That's insane. This is gonna be another close election.

  6. Saturday: went for 13-mile bike ride and then off to the early voting polls. An hour later, I vowed never to do that again. I thought it would be a good idea to get it out of the way, as I read up on all the candidates running for various positions in NC. Bad idea. There were record numbers at the polls; a lot of it has to do with NC remaining as a "lean" or "swing" state in the presidential race. Should have waited 'til election day.

  7. Don't listen to b_F. The guy is a total nutcase when it comes to Denime...

    ;)

Seriously though, not enough love for this brand. I've got the New66 (posted several pages back) and am quite pleased with them. I think i sized down 2 (!) at Jay's suggestion, but I probably should have sized down 1. The fit is good, but snug. I am confident I can make them work-- I just haven't gotten much wear in with the AW contest. Denime is a solid buy.

  8. man, a lot of hate for mr. beck. is this from personal experience, or from reading left wing message boards?

He's pretty much a spinster and as such, makes pretty inflammatory comments from time to time. It's good for ratings. No different from, say, Olbermann on the other side of the spectrum. I don't listen to either. You can always google either of these guys and come up with a list of dumb things they've said. As far as stupid family goes, I agree, that can temper our disdain a bit, but these are actually grown-ass men who get paid to speak their opinions to the masses so they're bound to delight and offend. I've got a shorter leash with public figures who get their "slice of pie" through media.

As for me, I'm interested in just about anything that's new in this niche. So far I'm unimpressed with the advertising/backstory. It's pretty poorly executed, imo. But, that doesn't mean the jeans are crap. Details and pricing look decent enough, maybe we'll see some pics. Now if you'll excuse me, I have REAL American work to get to; I'm building an unmanned rocket in my backyard.

  9. I was trying to be sympathetic with his level of knowledge and how he was trying to explain his understanding of denim and the history of jeans in America, but yeah, he's all over the friggin' place. Levi's moved everything to China? I don't know what "fake" rivets are. And he really likes to use the word "original" a lot. I dig the passion, but twisting facts (intentional or not) to sell product irks me.

I'm curious enough to see if someone gets a pair and sheds some light on these. I do like the plain copper(?) buttons. Happy, they might be made in the USA. When Raleigh Denim first started out, I think Victor mentioned that the buttons (which look similar) were either made in KY or GA. I can't remember which.

Edit: It's kind of a weird commercial. The setup was good, but then you realize he was building a fake metal rocket??

  10. My gluttony knows no bounds. Next up: the doughnut cheeseburger.

It was an occasion to see all the different exhibits. Sorry I didn't take more, but here is a snapshot of the local art on display with my friend sneaking in.

Apparently in the south, they don't know what fish and chips are.

But they do know how to party

  11. Been too long, brethren. I went to the North Carolina State Fair today. I've been to a few state fairs, but North Carolina does it right every year. We headed out around 10:30am to beat the rush, but found the crowds already swelling.

I need to look into this society. Sounds elitist.

This was my breakfast: london broil sandwich slathered in cheese, peppers, and onions.

First dessert was a southern/NC State Fair must: deep-fried Oreos.

    IMG_4979.jpg

You find just about ANYTHING deep-fried. check it:

I got the deep-fried cinnamon roll with bacon bits. Insanely delicious-- the sweet and the savory in one ridiculous dish.
