  1. Well, they've been sitting during the AW contest and just now broken them out. The plan was to wash and then rotate em in with the rest, but after I put them on, sat down, and got back up, the rivet was gone.

  2. How is the red rivet holding up? I put mine thru an initial wash and soon thereafter it popped off. The good news is David and co. have been kind enough to say they will cover postage once I send it back for repair.

  3. I have to concur with DJ regaring Zimbabwe cotton. My understanding (limited as it is) is that Zimbabwe and Xianjiang staples are of the extra long variety, which accounts for their popularity, particularly the former. I do remember someone else saying that they are also hand picked as opposed to machine harvested, so that also accounts for the higher quality/greater length. Masterofevil, I do agree in principle with your criticisms about the industry, but I do think there are some factual errors on your part. I just see first world countries like Japan hyping quality products because they can, and exploit cost differences. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, consumers like us also reap the benefits of such economic disparities.

Edit: iOS device auto spell fail.

  4. Very nice fit groove, do your's also have the 'peeping' pocketbags?

It annoys the hell out of me on my '44's, apart from that they're perfect.

Hey Mich-- haha yes, but I actually like that detail. It will look cooler (to me, anyway) over time. Just one of those things where I like my jeans like my women: diverse, as long as they're not huge.

  5. Thanks, man. I'm a 33.5 and went with the 34. I could've gone with a 33 waist, but the effort required to get to a comfortable fit was unappealing at the time. Certainly doable, but I was looking for a tad looser fit anyway. After a hot wash and dry, I'm quite pleased with the fit. Should've recorded the measurements before wash, but these are from 2009, and I used Paul T's guide to figure out sizing.

  6. Glad to see this thread bumped. I think they make some great jeans, and although I wish they saw more love here, they're a bit like Baldwin in that they're respected, but have a vision that doesn't appeal to the sufu nerds; at least in the sense that members post pics and fawn over details. Many moons ago, Victor had talked about doing a special RD contest with a special roll, but it never materialized. In my mind it was a bit of a turning point-- they were starting to blow up with demand and looking into moving their shop to their current location. Next thing I know, they're starting a clothing line and making women's cuts and bam, they're opening a location in NYC. They've come a long way, and like any small brand, they've evolved in fit and design. The Elliotts I own are really great, but the pocket design, placement, and stitching are clearly superior in later models. The best part is that they're still really great people-- very generous with their time and enthusiasm.

  7. Hate the name; just sounds pretentious to me. I was surprised to find that they had several of their own stores until I read that the founders of Lucky Brand and Jean Shop were behind it. They seem to be made well. I can't imagine the quality to be less than any of the Jean Shop stuff.

  8. I did go TTS after calling SE. I was on the fence with the 33 or 34 waist. I'm a 33.5, so I considered the 34 (measured 35) and blasting the shit out of them with a hot soak/wash. In the end I went with the 33. Definitely was concerned about the waist at first, but they've stretched back nicely.

  9. Thanks, fellas. The rise is good on these. Roy really made a great cut. Fortunately, my dimensions are pretty adaptable and I also really like being able to switch up; I'm generally not picky with regard to rise. My only complaint with these is the smell. After the first wash, they took on a peculiar odor ( insert joke ______ ). Not sure what's up with that, but I just had a salsa accident so they may hit the wash again soon. The denim is still hairy-- I'm looking forward to breaking 'em in. I'm rotating these in with my LVC 44, WH 1100, and Hiut, though once the Devis contest begins...
