  1. I still like prps raw. They are still overpriced, but I have yet to handle Zimbabwe denim softer than the models from 2-3 years ago. Love the purple selvedge. The construction was top-notch as well. I haven't handled the denim of recent years, but I've heard they now use "African cotton". Not a fan of any of their pre-distressed stuff. But donwan does know his shit.

Fwiw, I think there is a thread for "new prps raw" or something like that on here. Not a lot of sufu love on here, but understandably so-- prices for these are way out there, and better deals are to be had.

  2. Awesome. As long as we're kickin ideas around.... I'm intrigued by max power's suggestion. What if the two of em each selected a roll of denim just to make it interesting? Then you could have two "teams" face off, one champ. I like the idea of mixing it up and doing something a little different. It could be an organizational disaster with unknown or "random" users, but given the members already interested, everyone seems pretty agreeable. Of course it all depends on what they wanna do. To me, mixing it up just sounds fun as hell.

  3. bandana is right: there are definitely folks who do indeed troll and drop hate bombs out of nowhere. however, i've never found maynard to be one of those users. i think in this situation it's just about familiarity. many of us (unfortunately for better or worse) have more time to dedicate to sufu and dabble in other threads, so we inevitably cross paths. i've found both to be quality posters, so i always assume the best intention. as we all know, personalities are always a tough read online. the way i read the "unicorn" remark was just used for illustrative purpose, the way mf usually infuses wit into his posts. however, re-reading it, i can see how it can be perceived as a bit of a snarky remark, esp if was unfamiliar with a member (that's what she said). i'm no maynard scholar ;-), but i'm sure there was no disrespect intended.

but the trolls are coming. this thread (for better or worse) will draw more attention as quality shops like hickorees and big stock kapital items. hell, the way jcrew seems to pick up on brands like kato and chimala, i wonder if kapital isn't just around the corner.

i never thought kapital produced as many pieces as they do. initially i thought they were a bit like warehouse, but they actually put out full lines of mens and women's clothing. it's quite impressive. my favorite so far:

  4. yeah. i feel like the stuff kapital does is beautifully unique, in the same way the mister freedom aesthetic doesn't appeal to everyone. it's hit or miss for me, but i can always tell the craftsmanship is there, as well as the artistic vision. overpriced? probably, or just not within my ever-shrinking budget... i've one of those e-subscriptions which allows me access to the catalogs through the capital website, and i am blown away by a lot of the pieces they put out there.

  5. If mermaids made that shirt I'd definitely kop.

I like it, but I can definitely see that it wouldn't appeal to folks. To me it's wearable art, but not everyone has the same taste. What really gets me is the price tag. The unfortunate thing is we'll probably see really shitty rip off versions of this at the gap 2 years from now.

  6. how about women dressing like men and wearing 27's? for those people messing with mother nature, psa (yes pants shop avenue) still have some old denimes size 27-28 lying around in da house...

Def no problem, as long as the lady's chest size isn't a 38.

    ... Wait a minute.

  7. for our smaller chested brethren: size 38 (39.5 p2p) denime type 3 jacket on sale at blueowl.us

edit: link is case sensitive, it appears, and sufu's default lowercasing is futzing with the url.

  8. bad news. i've been adding some weight to take part in a "biggest loser" team challenge at work that begins on the 26th. i was wearing my denimes friday and one of the side seams busted as i was squatting. that's a first; a really embarrassing one at that...

    ... what a moron i am.

  9. Interesting. I totally missed this thread last year. Weird vibe from the look book, but the stuff looks decent. It's easy to sneer at "yet another denim company", but as long as they turn out a good product, I don't have anything but love for a small company trying to do something well. Price seems decent, too. Who are these guys? Any background in the denim industry?

Oh, and uke-- you don't have to justify starting this thread if no one had. I trust the mods to figure out if people are not on the level. I'd rather people pm to ask those kinds of questions and not post and assume, but whatever.

  10. nice beats, uke. spent the weekend visiting the fam in northern virginia/washington dc. accompanied by mom on sunday, went to visit the smithsonian, but unexpectedly came upon the st. patrick's day parade down constitution avenue. it was a hodgepodge of various interest groups, the first of which that caught my eye: the northern virginia corvette club.

  11. Not a huge fan of pugilism, but whenever I'm home I inevitably have to watch it with my pops. Still-- great shots and looks like a helluva good time. Lookin forward to those tees, tocl-- thanks for taking care of that!

  12. Too each his own, for sure. The details in a pair of PRPS jeans with black enameled hardware or a pair of bar-tacked back pocket Ande Whall jeans float my boat in equal ways. I don't care too much for bells and whistles. I usually prefer selvedge, but its not a deal-breaker for me. As long as they're a well-made pair of jeans and have a compelling story behind em, you can usually count me in.

  13. Uke- not sure - I put in for it the day after they went live. Ordered the slim organic, as I haven't owned a pair of "organic" denim jeans. Plus, It was about $100 cheaper than the Kuroki selvedge. I'm also intrigued by what appears to be the impetus behind the company: 1) Re-vitalizing a town that was known for 2) Doing "one thing well". It's a little hokey for my cynical mind, but there's still a heart somewhere in here *points to chest*. I'm curious to see how these turn out.

  14. i'd been on their mailing list since last summer, and i thought for sure they'd be ready by the end of the year, but they kept pushing the release date on their yearbook further and further out. when they finally became available, i bit the bullet and violated a personal vow to resist new purchases in 2012. ordered the organic denim (non-selvedge) last week-- they're still in process.
