  1. Assume that the average full time college student in the U.S. requires a total of $10,500 per year to cover the costs of tutition, books and fees with a standard deviation of $1,300. If 50 full time students are randomly sampled in the U.S., what is the probability that their total annual costs for tutition, books and fees exceed $550,000? Round your answer to 4 decimal places. Remember to round your z-value to 2 decimal places.

To answer the question input only the actual number. Do not include units. Do not give your answer in sentence form -- just include the numerical answer rounded to exactly 4 decimal places.

    Answer: ???

how the fuck do i do this and what is the answer

    Lol. Mean = 10,500, stdev = 1,300, n = 50.

    Xbar = 550,000/50 = 11,000

    P(Xbar > 11,000) = P[Z > (11,000-10,500) / (1300/sqrt(50)]

    = P(Z > 500 / 183.8477631)

    = P (Z > 2.71964166)

    = 1 - P(Z < 2.71964166)

    = 1 - P(Z < 2.72) = 1 - .9967

    = .0033

I did it really quickly but I think that's right.

  2. Haven't driven since August but the last few days has made me realize why I shouldn't miss it. So many people are just fucking stupid when it comes to their decisions on the road.

  3. @soonami - Rapture was pretty good, reminded me a lot of Supplication but with a thicker/more muddled appearance and mouthfeel. The mouthfeel reminded me of Riserva, and it had a similar effect as Riserva does in giving me heartburn. It's a good beer, but I think I like Riserva better (I love raspberry lambics though).

On another note, scored some Rumpkin bottles tonight. Excited to try one :)

  4. Just snagged a growler of Allagash Big Little Beer. I think this is the best non-sour beer I've had from Allagash, really impressed with it. Reminds me of a citrusy/hoppy Duvel green. Cracking open a Rapture later, and possibly this year's Bitches Brew. Feels good to be on vacation :)

  5. ^If you make a spreadsheet with a matrix of the distance traveled from each person to every other person, you should be able to use solver in Excel to create the shortest path possible.

edit: Nevermind, I was just thinking about this and it would be a total pain in the ass to get the distance traveled between each person.

  6. ^Hah that's sick.

@Layne -- eBay prices are always ridiculous, especially for beers like Black Tuesday. I'm expecting eBay prices to drop a lot for that beer though with the production ramp this year.

Also, your post made me think of this:

Total money spent on Founders CBS on eBay surpasses $10,000

That is in just one week since Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout’s initial release. That number could easily double by month’s end.

Nearly 200 total listings of the beer have gone up to date.

Just over 100 auctions have completed with winning bids.

The average spent per bottle between the bid amount and shipping is just over $100.

Total spent on a single bottle has ranged anywhere from $75 to $135.

An empty bottle even fetched one seller over $50.

  7. the sooner you make a decision, the less drama that will follow. i also just bumped your shit up (yes homo). you'll break 10k soon!

edit: i'm now only 5 rep ahead of you. lol. 9905 to 9990.

You sure about the math there?
