  1. i need your talent evilcrayon!

This will be my next bike...

    images.jpg

I still have 2 other bikes to work on and a scooter that needs my attention as well. My XL350 needs new tires, clutch line, and brake shoes. Exteeng's CL125 needs some electrical work so I'm going to teach her how to solder.

and I need to replace the pads and rotors on her car as well. Seems like all I'm doing is waiting on parts lately...

    here are photos for inspiration...

  2. About to finish "restoring" my CB750F, it should be done next week or the week after.

Pulled the carbs and cleaned them all up. New float bowl gaskets and intake boots too. Clutch and Throttle cables are all brand new as well. Has anybody had any experience with taking out the push throttle cable and just running a pull? I just sync'd them as well and they're now perfect. I've never had a set of carbs so in tune on all cylinders.

I am rebuilding the front brake master cylinder and replacing the stock lines with stainless steel lines from HEL. The pads are being replaced all around as well. New tires are due as well but I'm undecided on whether I want Bridgestone BT45V or Bridgestone Spitfire 11s. The BT45v are stickier but don't last nearly half as long as the Spitfires do. Both are dual-compound tires. I already tried Kenda and Avon and don't like either of them. Metzlers are so-so but not sticky enough for aggressive riding.

Replaced all 4 sparkplugs too and ~125psi on all 4 cylinders even when doing a wet compression test. I think I'm due for a valve adjustment but I don't have any shims. Started her up and she idles perfectly at 1000rpm.

    Photos when I'm done...

  3. fuck dirtbag neighbors.

last night, i was in my garage working on a table when i went outside to my driveway to smoke a cigarette. exteeng's car was parked in front of my house along the street when a van belonging to the people across the street pulls up and tries to park in front of it. well she's driving this huge van and ends up backing into exteeng's car and then just moving up 2 inches.

she gets out of the car and tries to go back inside the house when i tell her she hit the car. she gets defensive and tries to argue that this sort of thing happens at the super market all the time. i tell her that the only difference is that i caught her.

she begins to bitch about how my car is parked in front of her house and blocking her driveway which is clearly isn't. she uses her garage for storage anyway and there's always trashcans in front of the garage door. then she starts yanking on my door handles to set off the alarm. she keeps setting off the alarm and i finally switch exteeng's car with mine. she has a hatchback so there's no way it could be blocking her driveway.

this same neighbor uses our trashcans and i finally caught them when they left their junk mail on top.

so right now, i'm going over there with a videocamera to record her confessing to all this stuff. thoughts on what i should do after?

  4. I understand that. I carry around an Embassy or at bare min a space pen. But im talking $150 leather pouches/rolls with all kinds of fancy pens, pencils, sharpeners and erasers and fancy leather notebooks. Again, not bashing just curious if we have THAT many engineers/architects on here of if its one of those things were one kid is going to engineer school and posts his fancy stuff and then the next thing you know 10 people in the thread are walking around with $300 in writing utensils.

My buddy actually has one year left of engineer school and still only carries a cheap ass pencil and a bic pen. To each there own I guess...

BTW, Where the hell are the pictures of all the new gear 35?

it might sound silly but i feel more productive when working with comfortable pens and paper. i hate feeling whatever surface is below a sheet of paper so i always use legal pads. i prefer graph paper as well but when i found rhodia dotpads, i never looked back.

    handwritingy.jpg

people always think it's blank paper from afar and then ask me if the dots are for when i scan it into my computer. i found them at a local stationary store for $7 which isn't terrible.

i really wish i had something like the kuru toga pencil growing up though. i remember having to use sandpaper to get my wooden pencils comfortable enough to write with. if anybody else had to practice chinese characters growing up, i'm sure you can relate.

as for pens? i have been using the same lamy safari and the same bottle of ink for the past year. i haven't remembered the last time i bought a pen. people will ask to borrow a pen from me but when they find out it's a fountain pen, they just give it back. not loaning out my pen means i don't lose it.

i realized when i was 16 that i didn't lose things anymore. might as well invest in quality...

also, dotpads are great for playing the 'box game'

  5. does the crepe sole quality on clarksdb good enough?? I ride a motorcycle everyday and I think that the crepesole cant handle my daily ride...

The only problem I had with the crepe sole were with my dirt pegs. If you've never seen any before, they're basically bare metal with triangular points on them for grip.

They're great for grip but the soles of my shoes look like a vampire has been biting them. The grip on the crepe sole is also enough that the rubber pegs on exteeng's bike slipped off when I dragged knee. no idea how that happened -___-

Other than that, the crepe sole is probably the comfiest shoe sole I've ever had a chance to try. I've also fallen in my 301s on a stretch of road with no streetlights. It was after christmas so there were old trees being blown into the road.

  6. Screw oldbikebarn. I have been waiting for 3 weeks on clutch/throttle cables, brakepads, and an oil filter. I even emailed back and forth with pretty quick response time before I ordered. And now I just received an email saying they shipped it out.

I'm trying to decide between a fulmer v2 and a bell 500. I remember somebody having a bell, how is it?

  7. LA police gear 3-day bag for $30.

    http://www.lapolicegear.com/diplomat-3-day-backpack1.html

Mountaingear.com has a nice Black Diamond 3200 cubic inch pack for $90 on sale now.

But as rgray said what are you looking for more specifically?

Well I have a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II right now as my normal everyday bag. It's fantastic and all but it doesn't carry enough to be more than a daypack.

I'm looking for something more along the lines of a kit bag; something that I could sling over my shoulder as well as having backpack straps. A duffel bag would be good but maybe something with a few more external pockets as I hate having to dig through one large compartment to get to that bandage I need.

It should be able to hold:

    -sleeping bag/bivy sack

    -9 MREs

    -raincoat

    -socks/underwear/sweater

    -small toiletry kit

    -first aid kit

    -multi-use prybar

    -hat and sunglasses

    -2 flashlights

    -flares

-small toolkit (duct tape, visegrips, travel sized WD-40, adjustabel wrench, screwdriver)

I've been using an old duffel bag for a while but it's finally taken it's toll and the zippers aren't what they used to be. Also, the less velcro, the better. It will probably be tossed into a car or lashed to a motorcycle.

  8. A geologist named Jim Berkland predicts that the CA Bay Area's big quake will occur tomorrow (or sometime from 3/19-26).. He supposedly predicted the Loma Prieta/World Series quake back in '89...

    :(

Good thing I will be leaving tomorrow for Hong Kong.

On another note, been trying to find a flashlight. Probably going to end up with the Surefire 6PX. With all these disasters, I'm going to be updating my bug out bag. Does anybody else have one of these?

I'm trying to find a decent 3-day pack that won't break the bank. Please no TAD Gear, Kifaru, Mystery Ranch, etc. :(

  9. yeah, i think you're takling about the 755mpr.

that is beautiful. must get... looks a little on the small side.

the knife shop in japantown, sf had one at 40% off (~130). should have copped..

about to cop the surefire g2x but if anybody else has any suggestions for a really tough light, please let me know.

  10. dunno what state this ironhead came from but i just wanna check is there a website for that?

    are you serious ed?

no, there is not a website. no, carfax does not work.

secondly, did you really buy a bike with no license plate? and no title? no registration? *ahem* stolen.

just go to the dmv and grab all the pamphlets you can. ask them to run the VIN and it should show up even if it's out of state.

  11. bank of america is awful. went in to cash some savings bonds and they lost 50 out of the 55 i gave them.

also, it took 30 minutes of "hold on, i'm just trying to get one last bit of information" from the customer service rep to tell me she couldn't do anything.

and now i'm hold again and somebody just answered and then put me back on hold.

edit: and now they're saying they need my death certificate to even locate the bonds. what the fuck is going on?!

  12. i had the pleasure of riding from the south end of san francisco all the way downtown in the rain, with a flat tire, with no cellphone. best part: i was on my way to the shop...

in other news, my cb750f is on the lift now. i'm sending my carbs out to be rebuilt by a friend with an ultrasonic cleaner. i have ordered rebuild kits for both front brake calipers as well as the master cylinder for both front and rear.

has anybody had any experience with hondaman's transistorized ignition systems?

  13. Getting my seat redone. Just bored doing mockups...

    182487_1357718296454_1036380095_31418252_5002027_n.jpg

I think I'll just shave an inch or two off the top and round off the sides. As for the sidecovers, it's almost $120 for a set so I may just use some number plates in the meantime.

    To-Do:

    -new brake shoes

    -new tires

-new exhaust, intake filter and the rejet to go along with it

My CB750F is also going to get a Dyna-2000 electronic ignition setup. I may start tracking it too...

and I'll just leave this here:
