  1. Getting psyched for BF3. Been waiting since BF2 since everything but BC2 multiplayer has been a letdown. BF2142 was kind of cool but it was like the tiberian sun of the red alert series. Really stoked to use the DAO-12 with flechette rounds.

Currently downloading the beta for PC. PC > PS3&XBOX as far as multiplayer goes.

x634sx, a bit over 9 months just after a machine wash with samurai soap.

so far, 2 motorcycle accidents... crotch is blowing out, knees have to be repaired, hem needs to be reinforced, and my right pocket has a hole in :(

  3. I'm contemplating switching it over to the other side as I have a rear stand so don't really care for the center stand. However, two brothers exhausts are incredibly rare for older bikes, especially the race exhaust. I just picked it up yesterday and wow is it a beast. It could use a steering damper but a new front tire and stator are the first on the list.

The stock seat is pretty comfortable even with a tear on it. It's covered right now so I don't see the point in fixing it quite yet as it does it's job quite well. It really is quite something on the freeway, easily cruising around at 100mph all day. Being able to keep up with liter bikes is quite nice and the exhaust is RIDICULOUS. I will take a video today but it sounds so nice with the gear driven cams whining and the exhaust snarling and cracking.

  4. have you tried turning the idle screw up? it should be a knob somewhere on the carburetors, maybe on the bottom?

    edit:

first things i do is change the oil and filter. just order it from your local Honda dealership and i like Honda gn4. synthetics tend to loosen up gunk in the oil pan and leak a bit more.

then get your battery sorted, new spark plugs, and adjust your chain, it's pretty easy http://tinyurl.com/3sgn53t

then tires cause usually they're old as shit. do not be afraid to get a new chain and sprocket as you'll be surprised how much smoother it is.

  5. Ha. What a chud.

In other moto news, hopped on a buddy's 94 vfr750 over the weekend. Honda 4's have zero soul but damn are they fast.

Thinking about picking up a 1990 VFR750 pretty soon. The CB550 isn't reliable enough to be a back up bike anymore. 1990 to 1997 weren't all that different even though they were 90-93 is 3rd gen and 94-97 the 4th gen. Only problem is the mileage, 104k miles

    For $1600,

    -Two Brothers full exhaust system

-Front forks have Racetech gold valves & springs

-Bitubo rear shock; although I will have to get this resprung

    -4th gen front wheel

-sunstar steel sprockets and RK X ring chain; stock ratio

Rebuilt at 60k, sprockets and chain done at 90k, new regulator/rectifier/wiring harness 2k miles ago

Also have the OE tool kit, clymer manual, LP rear stand, and another set of forks with Racetech gold valves. Seems to me that it's been pretty well taken care of. 4th owner but they were all friends I think...

  6. Man. I went to Costco today to get gas and there's a fat line so they have lines that go to every 2 pumps. Well, I'm waiting in this one line(I choose which one by what cars I think hold the least amount of gas) and for some reason, every other line is way faster than ours. It turns out that only one person is moving forward at a time because the pumps are 2 in a row and once the person at the 2nd pump left, the car at the front of the line wouldn't go around, instead waiting for the first pump.

I watch this happen twice before I just pull out of the line and cut 4 people in line. Surprisingly, nobody even said anything as I bought all seven gallons of 91 octane and left.

Also, people who think group study rooms are soundproof. stupid kag, I can hear you yelling at your boyfriend on the phone from the FLOOR BELOW YOU.

  7. my neighbors have a small little bitch of a dog that they just leave in their backyard all day and all night. it never stops barking and as much as i love dogs, i really want to kick this one.

  8. so my neighbors on both sides of my house are corny hipster scene girls. today i woke up to electric feel on repeat for what seems like an hour. and then i had to listen to one of the girls scream about trailmix outside my window to another girl a block away.

i fucking hate outside lands already.

  9. Thank you all for the replies, really appreciate it.

At the risk of sounding like a poser, I'm more into the style of the Monster than it being a Ducati. I've read and heard everywhere the SVs are a better option overall. I also don't think they sound as good as the Monsters. The SVs sound more crotch-rockety, if that makes sense.

Another bike I've considered is the Buell xb9sx. I love the looks of that bike too and to me they also sound pretty badass. Anyone know if that may be a better option than the Monster?

I do want to keep my overall bike expenses to a minimum and I realize the Ducati (and maybe even the Buell) wouldn't be the best approach but I can't get over the look and sound of both those bikes.

Right now, it seems like you're basing your purchase on sound and looks. This is a terrible way to decide on a first bike. You can alter the way a bike sounds with just simple slip on exhaust. Sit on as many bikes as you can (WITH THE OWNERS PERMISSION). You want to be able to touch the ground with your feet and feel comfortable. Do a lot of research, go read motorcycle magazines at barnes and nobles.

When buying a bike, you have to factor in all those "accessories" like jacket, gloves, helmet, tires, chain lube, etc. renski and redbaron really hit the nail on the head as to why you shouldn't buy one.

I used to ride a monster and while it was a fun bike to ride, I hated people asking me if my clutch was broken and I hated the maintenance. I will never personally work on an italian bike after having every exhaust bolt on an Aprilia shear off (yes I own a torque wrench). They're expensive bikes and unless you can do maintenance yourself(be prepared for some bolts in ridiculous places), they're even more expensive to maintain.

as for old Honda CBs, it most definitely is a hipster bike now. Same with vintage BMWs. Just riding through SF yesterday, I saw a guy with no gloves, no jacket, and only shorts riding a rust bucket of an R65. The tires were completely squared off and a good 2 inches of chicken scraps on both sides. I don't mind having hipster girls ask about my "cafe racer" all the time though...

  10. hey yall,

like the title says I have a 1977 Honda cb550F Super Sport & my dream is turn it into a cafe racer.

I want to do the work myself & plan on having the project through my years at art school so I will have access to all the necessary tools/equipments.

My question is, where do I start? I do not know a lot about motorcycles in technical terms so I am a little overwhelmed.

Can anyone give me some pointers?

Sohc4.net will help you quite a bit. I'm also a fellow CB550 owner. The maintenance that you should be checking regularly are the ignition system and valves and timing. Ignition system - points, rectifier and regulator. Valves - valve clearance adjustment. Timing - cam chain tensioner.

To get a good idea of your engine's inner workings, start off with a compression check. You can go look through SOHC4 and find a service manual pdf but I prefer hardcopies from Clymer.

Also, new tires will make a world of difference if the tires are older 5 years. I'm also planning on installing a tapered steering bearing and I think somebody on this forum put them on their CB750. The swingarm bushings get sloppy after a long time so bronze replacements might be nice.
