Yeah that's what I'm afraid of.  I did the SJ in a standard last instead of the semi dress and was wondering what the difference was. The look I'm going for is

Would the last make a noticeable difference in look anyway?

I think they look pretty similar from the side. I can't tell if that pair is a SD last or if its SJ. I think both look good and if you've already made you're order you should feel fine. Either last is a good decision. These are my farmer ranchers - SJ last (4811)

  2. I just realized my new pair of TCB 50s doesn't have the chainstitch run-off. Was the chainstitch run off a special detail for the contest jeans? just curious.

edit: I'm referring to the waistband area.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers here but is there a slimmer cut in these jeans for us with skinny legs? Every fit pick here is way too baggy. Unless we are reverting back to the old JNCO days. I personally am not seeing the appeal. To each his own I guess. Were these made specifically for those with bigger thighs? A 12-14" rise just looks silly on me. Overall construction looks top notch however.

yeah, I guess I can see what you're saying - heres me in my new TCB 60s. No turn up on 60s jeans.

Those are the 50's I suppose? They look lovely. The rise is awesome.

thank you. yes they're 50s. The rise is perfect for me, very comfortable. These are definitely my favorite fitting jeans.

True but the stock iron suspender "two cats brand" buttons of the 20's are ultra rad, methinks

what sort of snap ons did you use? I see carrhart makes some which are easy to find.

they were the LVC ones provided with the 1937s

*just to clarify - I'm not advocating anyone use any different type of buttons. I'm just trying to say that in my experience suspender buttons weren't uncomfortable while wearing a belt and those who are concerned may not need to request a pair without them.

  6. When I added the snap on suspender buttons to my 1937s I was quite surprised by how little they interfered with wearing a belt. Something to consider for the 20s TCBs.

Ha ha thanks for your help and encouragement Volvo! Long live lighter denim belt loops!

The new question is... with or without braces? This requires some careful reflection...

This question can only be answered by answering this question : how much attention do you want to bring to yourself and your expensive trouser hobbies that few understand?

Everytime I wore suspenders w my 1915 LVC the "nice suspenders" comments were too much for me. Perhaps I'm weak.

Withou the braces cinch backs can fly under the radar - with braces you're letting your freaky cinch back flag fly.

Our 9-yr old in his first denim jacket, thanks to @erk. Not showing his face, but he was super proud. The sleeves are too long, the rest is just big enough to layer under. This am he wore it over a hoodie.

    yeah!! glad it worked out.

  9. I'll second the height talk. 8" is nice, but when contrasted with my semi dress boots - the lower height is way better for walking around town and is more comfortable in general. And I've thought more than once about having them cut down to 6" ( you should ask whites about this aho ) 8" farmer ranchers are brown smooth - it's comfortable but seriously heavy duty.

hajime would have chain stitched your jeans for free if you had ordered from him yourself.

Yeah, well I wanted to try denimio for the free shipping. Ill be paying my $30 punishment anyways.

Thanks mlwdp - I've actually been there before. Good to hear a good review about their service.

  11. Been out of the game for too long. the denimio charge for $28 hemming is a deal. Thought I could take my jeans to Raleigh Denim to be hemmed but they quit providing the $15 hem service. Took up too much time and heavier jeans much up the machine. Shame on me.

just thought I'd put this out there as a PSA.

  12. ok. so kudos to Denimio for the super fast shipping. jeans arrived this morning.

    size 32 raw measures

Waist - 16.25 across the top

    thigh - 12.75

    knee - 9.5

    inseam - 39

    front rise - 12

    back rise - 15

    hem - 8 7/8

  13. So I think I may have inadvertently ordered the same size as what I got for the TCB contest.

I went back through my paypal payment and saw that I ordered a 34 Raw ( the whole process for ordering the contest jeans was completely backwards to begin with. Looking back the whole process from the beginning dealt with size charts etc that ended up not being used - a lot of which was perhaps difficult to communicate via translation / non native english speakers. )

So what I believe I have found out is that the sizing for the contest jeans was different than what customers will currently receive when purchased either thru TCB or denimio. Wish I had checked that earlier.

What's the opinion re: Wolverine nowadays?

I know when they first launched the 1000 Mile boots folks here thought they were just so-so.

Anyone tried the custom 1000 Mile program yet?

I've never seen a pair of 1000m boots that looked good after a bunch of wear. My friend has a pair and they've got loose grain all over the place. I think the red wing GT is way better for the money.

  15. I did a factory tour of nicks when I was in spokane in january. They explained that the nicks are wet lasted which decreases stretch but makes the boots very tough to break in. White's dry lasts. I thought nicks was cool - It is a much smaller company compared to Whites. the Whites building is probably 4 times bigger. They also only have one guy that does the norwegian rolled welt - which was absolutely crazy to me. White's seemed to have plenty of people to do that. I agree with Aho on aesthetics. I'd buy a pair of nicks one day maybe, but I'm not gonna get rid of my whites.

also, for Ed's question - they use some of the same lasts as White's. Lots of styles come on the 55 Semi Dress last and some on the 4811 smoke jumper so I can only assume the sizing would be the same.  They have a proprietary last for the hotshot. Would probably be best to contact nicks directly for sizing questions.

    Pit to Pit - 16 3/4"

    Back shoulder seam - 14 3/8"

Sleeve from top of shoulder  - 21 7/8"

Back Length Collar seam to bottom - 20"
