  1. The standard cost of such a boot is plainly stated on the baker's site. You can look at the break down of the price when you make your selections on the baker's website.

If you want it to be cheaper...

Don't get double midsoles. Don't get two different types of leather. Don't get a rolled top.

do you have a similar jacket that fits you well? if so, measure that jacket and buy the one closest in measure.

  3. white's in natural chromexcel is an interesting development. still glad i went with the distressed smooth though. i wonder if natural cxl will become available for the bounty hunter.

my experience and observations with natural cxl is that it can be rather crinkly. this is especially notable on aldens. the leather on this pair was not particularly thick, and for a rugged work boot like white's i would prefer something thicker.

white's grades their own leather from an entire hide. The leather will most likely be thicker on white's because of the sections they use for the uppers.

  4. red wing 875s rule, and fresco is right, hollowsleather was referring to the fact that you were asking if there was a red wing boot that looks like a copy of what is probably the most famous and most popular red wing boot.

I wish I still had mine, grew out of them at age 21. never thought that'd happen.

  5. i know that this has probably been asked before, but what's the deal with chromexcel upkeep? shining, polishing, treating, all that good stuff. thanks! and your white's look great, erk! i'll post mine with about 1 month of wear in the coming days probably.

    thanks man.

it seems the internet world is kind of vague on upkeep of chromexcel leather. What I've found is Obenauf's works really well. Even for areas where color has been removed because of scuffs and what not. My friend has a pair of alden chromexcel 405s on the modified last that he had polished at a train station in DC. They were super shiny and still look good a couple months later. So I'm thinking its really not that big of a deal how you treat them. but you can get a pretty good low shine with just obenauf's and a brush.

  6. I've had them since feb 6th, if I remember correctly. they're the brown cxl

@ fresco: I think I might do that. only problem is the only cobbler in greenville is a total hack. So i'll have to take them to raleigh and be without them for a while. I'll take care of it when the north carolina summer heat forces me to stop wearing boots.

  7. So i'm considering a pair of SDs, but i've got relatively low arches. I'm kinda stuck as to what size to actually get, considering i might throw insoles in them. Maybe this is more of a question to ask White's, themselves. any advice is good advice though

Living in Eugene O.R. puts you in the best place to find your white's size, 2nd only to living in spokane. Go to baker's shoes like smittybat suggests and they will sort you out. They probably have a few sizes for you to try on as well.

  8. simple explanation for that, they're channeling the mid sixties. they're ok but i wish instead of this they would do a credible repro of the white levis line (which came in many colors besides white)

agreed. I'd be much more interested in one of them wheat colored jeans or jackets they used to make.

  9. My small Alden collection.

Indy 403. These came apart where the leather upper with the laces attaches to the vamp. I should have returned them but made a repair by myself which is sort of working.

I had that starting up on my 405s and I sent them back to Alden and they fixed it for free. Good as new! I dont know why it is, but that seems to be a pretty common problem. nice smattering of shoes you've got there.
