Maussade weather in Half Moon Bay, still beautiful. We saw sea otters in Santa Cruz!

...is that the paraffin-cloth military shirt? just found one second hand (but pretty much unworn), don't usually see FW items in my size – it's hard to imagine it as anything other than an overshirt in Australia, but it looks good worn this way

  3. you may want to consider a 10oz denim, maybe some utility pants... heh. Half-marathon is the best distance for a run, I think. Got the Sydney one coming up in May, been two years and it's not been fun having the enforced lay-off.

  4. ^ they are looking great.. instant nostalgia for my pairs, which I probably fit into again so should resurrect. I've actually got a 6002-A type II jacket coming in; for all I know it's @Broark's old one.. not too many of those floating around in a 44.. looks to be new, though, and Corlection (my local) did carry them a couple of years back

    Here’s my final submission - I was contestant #110.

I’m really grateful for this contest as it was what reminded me what I love about this denim world and this community - I got into it really last minute, mostly out of a need for a new pair of jeans as my last pair were running to rags, but also because I’d missed out on the last two tcb contests and loved how intimate and mutually supportive those contests had been, full of personal updates and such unique results from each of the contestants. Though this contest was a little more sparse as far as personal updates went, I’m really happy to see how many of us gave their pairs consistent wear. I sort of abandoned mine for a good part of the contest, though they had their fair share of fun experiences: moving to New Mexico, renovating a house, rebuilding two trucks, doing a lot of tattooing and painting (somehow only getting a couple of paint splatters and almost no ink on them … cause I learned how to tune my machines properly lol), a good deal of gardening, and a lot of cooking… and they stayed mostly together through all of it! Unfortunately they were down for about 5 months of the contest because I kept putting off repairs, first on the knees, then the seat, then the hems, and now after patching the right rear pocket the left is starting to go also… but i have no plans to let em go yet, they’re probably my favourite jeans I’ve ever had. I’ll stop reminiscing and put up some pictures now.

An eloquent post from a profoundly cool human!

  6. ^ Dude, you must have higher expectations than me – that looks like a fairly generous fit by my standards these days! Over the 18 months I think my pair has expanded to accommodate my incrementally increasing girth, as I can't seem to fit into many of my other pairs – even the ones I bought at the same time thinking I'd put them on ice... my unworn Tender 129s are now my aspirational pair, unless I'm forced to admit defeat and pass them on to my 14 y.o. son

  7. ^ Nice one..! I bought a NOS 18oz CPO shirt under similar circumstances, made an offer but the seller decided to hold out for more and I ended up getting it at the original starting price (resisted reminding him he should've taken me up on my twice-the-price offer!).. but it's an unforgiving fit – I'll need to shed some covid kilos before our winter kicks in...

Maybe Acronym x Freewheelers should do a collab for a reversible jcket :D

I've often wished my FW Type I had a kinetic sleeve pocket so my cards would be available with a vigorous downward movement, that tedious flap on its single pocket... pff. I think you're onto something, though – if one side was denim and the other full-on dystopian tech ninja, you could wear it denim side in so that it could quietly evolve while you went about your... whatever ninjas do, covert shit... and then one day undergo a dramatic metamorphosis back to well-worn heritage right when everyone's extreme urban-decay ronin pants delaminate for the final time...

Seriously though, why are you looking for a new trend/style? When I see someone sporting a ‘similar’ sort of style of clobber to mine, after a quick scan I’m normally reassured that they are in fact a budget version and I remain silently (and morally) superior. That’s generally enough for me these days! :laugh2:

This is so true... apart from one occasion where I was loving myself in my A3 fashioned from a 50s Belgian brushstroke camo shelter half, and behind me at the local aquatic centre I hear a voice: "hey man, nice hat" – to discover a dude wearing an A3 made from an impeccable piece of 40s Mitchell camo that he had made himself... well. Like a showdown at a beat, I was outclassed so the only course of action available was to request that he make another for me.

I keep trying bucket hats bc there are so many sick ones but every time i put one on i get flashbacks to high school and i think i have still have ptsd from all my poor clothing decisions.

Bucket Hats and Anal Beads would be a good title for your retrospective Best-Of...

  11. ^ hat + jacket game is strong! I'm always too slow off the mark for Troy O'Shea's small runs through his site, but have quite a few of his made from old shelter halves through Papa Nui. Yours was the pick of that recent bunch!
