  1. BG- there's gotta be at least one Clarks store in DFW. I bought a pair of black pebble and brown pebble Desert Boots no too long ago for 2/$99 at a Clarks store here in Houston. The pebble texture smooths out on most of the shoe. They broke in quick, and were a steal at that price. Good luck!

  2. Tweedles, hell yes, go see Cobb's band! I missed them when they were here in Houston a couple of years ago but I heard they swung HARD. Plus, he's the only guy left from Kind of Blue. Probably your last chance.

  3. My father lives in NYC and my mother lives in LA. We also have a summer homes in France, Hong Kong, and Argentina. My father is contantly traveling, and I like to spend time in Chicago with my friends whenever I get the chance. Again, work hard, play harder!!1.

And you get to play in a punk band!? Homes on 4 continents is always great for some serious punk rock cred.

    Drop and gobble, shithead.

  4. I've got a few really good vintage razors I use. I have a lot that are past their shaving prime, if you will. I still have some old US made razors, but more for the fact that they are hard to find.

As far as shaving cream, I use the soap I use in the shower, and shave in the shower, after softening up stubble with very hot water. Works great, zero razor burn. I'll post pics of some razors soon.

  5. Okay. Sure, Levis were cheaper than the repros are. BUT- new 501s are not made like they used to be. Period. Things were made a lot differently in the 40's. Here's the quickest analogy I can make right now.

    this is my bathroom:

Now, 60 years ago, this was a normal, routine bathroom. No big deal, right? You were having an apartment built, this was how a lot of bathrooms were built out. The price wasn't an arm and a leg. Fast forward to 2007. To get this kind of tilework done would cost an arm and a leg.

Think about a typical pair of shoes from the 40's, and how much an equal pair would be.

  6. insomaniac- post up some pics- button fly, patch, inside of front pockets, selvedge, etc... Do they have hidden rivets? It should be obvious if they are original, repros, or Thai fakes.

  7. I'm getting the impression that Kiya and Gordon probably pay wholsale prices that are pretty close to what someone would pay from a Rakuten shop. If that is the case, then their markup is completely justified. It's not like Skull, Warehouse, Samurai, etc... have a US distributor that would bear import duties, freight costs, etc. I've bought a couple of pairs of jeans from Blue in Green. One pair fit perfectly, and another was not the fit I wanted. It would have been no problem to return the pair I didn't like, but I'm fortunate enough to work with a fellow denim junkie, and he bought them from me the same day, and paid full pop for them. It's nice having the option of an exchange, and it's a big time plus to be able to correspond with people who speak English (no slam intended there). I haven't bought from Self Edge yet, but it's only a matter of time until I do. Service makes the sale.

I think gas is way cheaper in Iraq...

  8. Ya know, I've got a pair of repros with a red tab, and I kind of think they look better without a red tab. I do like some of the other color tabs (white, blue, etc...) that were on some other brands. I have a cool idea for some back pocket stitching that I'll probably send to someone to see if they want to use it.

  9. I was young and skinny once...

It is ridiculous the Levis says that the 47 501 is "A replica of a jean in our archive". Bullshit. No way were jeans that slim in the late 40's, period. As far as how Levis promo materials were in the 40's- a lot of those were paintings, and pretty stylized ones, at that.

  10. I have a pair of 70's 501's where the CS veers way off from the serge, so I'm gonna go with 2 machines. Here they are, early 70's redlines. Looks like someone had a four beer lunch...

It's actually not too noticable from the outside. I wondered about this myself a while back. These jeans kinda cleared it up for me.

  11. synthi- Guilty as charged. I'll be 35 in a couple of weeks. Don't watch it much, if ever, but that show was pretty damn funny.

hjj- they are nice, aren't they? I wonder if Warehouse sacrificed a deadstock pair of 1910 bucklebacks to get it right. Those look more right than the LVC version, but I guess that's no big surprise.
