  1. I don't love it but I've got some sympathy for the whole thing in general. It's essentially a prerequisite for any independent creative studio of any sort really, especially super small ones with tiny to non existent distribution networks. This is one of those where I hate the game more than the player - so to speak. It's even stranger in a way when it's a product that harkens back to pre internet times taking a very contemporary sales approach. My personal career is now a good bit different than it was because I just couldn't really get behind using social media to promote my work (still mostly can't). I'm lucky that I still find other ways that mostly stem from personal relationships built over time, but every day I feel like an anachronism whose days are numbered before my work life undergoes a radical shift.

That said, I do wonder if they're at the point where they have enough retail support - not my call to make. Can't argue with how nice the jeans are - and I do think they're reasonable when purchased from JP.

  2. I agree they don’t imply it’s defective - I didn’t use that term - and I have no reason to think it is. But it sounds like it’s not the dye job they wanted. It may be something even more preferable to some, it’s just that it wasn’t what they wanted.

  3. Haha that post really shows off their skill at marketing. Turning "We got this bolt of denim that wasn't what we ordered and that we actually found disappointing" into "unique war era denim perfect just right for this one model."

Don't get me wrong, the pair I have hanging in my closet is impeccably made and one I look forward to wearing.

  4. Another reason to get pics of actual jacket being measured if possible. That being said, pattern matters too - measurements won't reveal absolutely everything and there's always a little risk involved. With FW I've personally found that once you find your size - that's gonna be it no matter the item.

  5. I can't speak specifically to the 1947 but in my experience warehouse's 29 is about freewheeler's 30. I have jeans with similar rises from these brands. It's enough that I'd be a little suspect about getting the same size in freewheelers that I have in warehouse, let alone down one.

That said, yes FW raw denim shrinks a good bit.

  6. I’ve need 2 washes w my raw Freewheelers stuff to get it to size.

On the other hand, I’ve not washed any one wash things, of which I’ve got a few - experience on if that first wash shrinks things noticeably or if their factory wash maybe does that pretty well? Rethinking if maybe I should do that.

  7. I picked up a bunch from Muji - they happened to have a sale going on. Got 2 sizes expecting to return half and ended up keeping mostly smalls but a few mediums because I liked the fit of both. I'm perpetually between a S and a M for knits. Anyways, plenty happy with them for what they are - can move on now from my threadbare batch of grays and whites I got like 8-10 years ago. We'll see how they hold up.

It's a good jacket. I picked one up recently too. Will get some pics up eventually

Oh nice we can compete with wear with 2 jackets now!

I will lose, because apparently now I am more of a collector, and am also working on the ‘51 and the RB black one (and that’s just my FW), and I have to dress up more next year.

But I just couldn’t pass it up - it had everything that jackets I have don’t - aside from being denim and totally the same in the eyes of my spouse.

    My current grails.  Perfect fit.

This is the only denim I ever bought in 2 sizes. My 30s have only been worn a few times (i found they ran slightly large so I put my wear into the 29s). If that happens to be useful for you let me know.

It's interesting why this is not specified in descriptions.

I think this is just not a point of interest for most buyers, probably even most freewheelers buyers (I would hazard a guess this forum isn't a representative sample). I could be wrong. But manufactures could go down a rabbit hole trying to list details about all components. For instance, where is the cotton sourced from that makes up the pocket bags? Or what's the provenance of the metal for the buttons? etc.

  11. People do indeed have bad days. I’ve had more this year than I often do and haven’t been as kind as I’d like to be treated. That could be the case - and I try to not let one encounter form my opinion (but two or three probably will).

But the idea that artisans by definition have to be unbearable I find tiresome. A lot of them are but having an idiosyncratic profession is no better reason to be a general jerk. I work in the arts and some, even most people are indeed actually quite kind and wonderful people and others, yes, terrible people. They suck and good work is no excuse.

It’s funny of these brands mentioned - I have FC0105 and OA jeans waiting in my closet since winter - before this year I never really had anything waiting. I’m excited to get to them both but with the life my current rotation has - mainly WH, FW, and TCB it looks to be awhile. Right now I am favoring the TCB 20’s for the reasons people like the full count. Lighter weight denim and fuller cut - but still slimmer than the 0105, though I did size up in mine - which I rarely do, because the cinch makes that convenient which I really like.

The hype with OA (as far as I can tell) is a combination of just about the most perfect stitching you can find coupled with all the things people like about supporting a two person shop that by nature has very limited production and is really good at marketing themselves on social media.

  12. I’m sure this has been asked before but for those of you who don’t go for high end t shirts what do you like these days?

My current batch is wearing thin and while I would be happy to wear like a warehouse t or something I just don’t get excited about that and I don’t feel like spending 50-70 for a t shirt. Is there anything well made, mid weight 100% cotton, well fitting etc that go for like around 30$ a pop that you’re liking? I don’t need loopwheeled or MIJ or anything like that, though I’d still rather buy something made in less crappy working conditions. I have some not-so-old Gustin t’s I am not happy with, they’ve been outlasted by my twice as old plain volcom t-shirts so won’t go that route again.

  13. I've worn Bostons on and off over half my life now. Still usually the grey felt ones - same ones I had in high school. You can get them resoled. They're not cheap in their own right (they are reasonable in the context of goods discussed in this forum). My feet don't feel better in anything else and while they're ubiquitous I still like the minimal look. They are the epitome of the thing I keep going back to, second only to jeans probably. Even when I was skateboarding all of the time and I dressed in a way that reflected it more, I'd ditch the skate shoes for Bostons after most sessions and almost every day I didn't skate. Sometimes I wish they weren't so common but I also understand why.
