  1. How much more do you need them to shrink? If I use the dryer, I dry my jeans until they are damp (on "delicate" or "permanent press/medium heat" settings, checking on them every 15 minutes). Then I hang them until they are completely dry. If you need more shrinkage, you could blast them on the highest heat setting until they are nearly dry, then hang them.

I know you didn't take raw measurements, but how much did the waist shrink if you had to guess?

In my opinion these look better when sized down to actual size. I prefer a slimmer profile however

I agree that the R01 cut is very full and looks good when sized down, if the waist works for you.

As long as the tag size 34 measures at least 36" at the waist, I should be ok. Wishing good luck to all who plan to purchase a pair.

  3. I asked Kiya about sizing on IG. His response is below. I am TTS 36. According to the listed measurements, a tag size 34 (36" waist, raw) could work. I'm concerned a tag size 36 (38" waist measurement) will be too big after shrinking. Wish we had a bit more info on how much the Cone denims shrink. Anyway, here is what Kiya said:

"I would go for a 34 if you want to only lightly wash them in cold water over time, If you don’t want to worry about how to wash them down the line then I would get a 36 especially if you like to wash your jeans fairly often."

What pair are you guys digging?

Digging both jeans. I'll likely cop the XUVS since the measurements look ever-so-slightly slimmer through the thigh compared to the XX20. I'd get both but my lotto numbers didn't hit last night.

How are y'all going to size them? Using my size, 36" waist, as an example, previous iterations of the R01 in loomstate Black Seed denim had a waist measurement of ~37" on a tag size 36. My SExR01 (cloth patch) have a waist of just under 36" after multiple washes and lots of wear. Both Cone pairs have a waist measurement of 36" for a tag size 34 and a 38" waist measurement for size 36. The guidance in the product description says to order the same size as previous Roy jeans, but I'm not sure that makes sense given that both denims are "treated to some processing after weaving" and "have a slightly less rate of shrinkage" than previous Roys.

    Curious to hear others' thoughts.

Does anyone know if the R01 cut has changed or been tweaked at all over its various iterations?  I ask because I bought an early version of the R01 (cloth patch) which is quite full through the upper leg, especially relative to the waist and hem.  I'm a big-thighed guy and while I find the fit very comfortable, I'm not sure it's the most flattering cut ... for me.  I'm specifically wondering if the measurements from the top block to the knee have changed, since this is my only area of concern.

I am in the same boat regarding fit, @JohnM. I have skinny legs and the thighs on R01 are big on me. The cut still works and looks ok, but they're on the baggier end of the spectrum of "jeans that look good on me." Judging by the SE measurements only, it doesn't appear the thigh size was altered (much) from the SExR01 (cloth patch) to the Indigo Lovers iteration. Looking forward to seeing the measurements for the Cone lots...and to someone, anyone from SuFu getting a link to the product description before Monday. :D:ph34r:

The selvage ID is faded pink color this time which is different with it used to be on the oxidized denim used on several model.

The idea is the same to reproduce the dead stock jeans found in a warehouse in Wyoming. I guess the treatment method  is still the same. Maybe optimization on the process this time. New denim, same concept.

One might say about the process/denim/concept...it's a sequel. :D

Looking great. Thanks for all this, Volvo.

I especially love the super-pale stitching of Levi's from this era and look forward to wearing them.

Do you have a photo of the 'stagger' - the bottom of the V of the yoke - on the vintage pair?

It's a constructional detail that wasn't quite right on the 50s I think (only matters to freaks like me, my 555 LVC had the same error). Levi's themselves did change construction quite randomly, the 40s was a period when it moved from one style (parallel lines of stitching line up, as one the repro pair here) to another (the right hand parallel lines are slightly higher, which makes the yoke effectively more symmetrical, as on post 47 Levi's) and I'd be interested to see what's on the reference pair .

Yoke discussion starts at 23:45 of the video.

  8. I did a hot wash on delicate setting, no spin cycle. After washing, I rolled them up in a towel to get rid of excess water, then threw them in the dryer on gentle/low heat, checking every 15 minutes. I removed them from the dryer while still damp (around 30-40 minutes total) and let them hang dry until completely dry. YMMV depending on your dryer.

Ok here are two photos, not best quality but I do like the fit just thought the waist my stretch a bit too much. this is 1 warm soak in the tub for 30 mins, and one delicates wash on warm, no detergent no spin.

My Self Edge R01 fit almost exactly like this initially (I know the IL cut is slightly different, but not by much). They continued to shrink throughout the first year of wear, 4 hot washes and two trips through the dryer, and look great now that they're broken in. They'll drape better once you've worn them for a few months. I'd stick with this pair, but, hey, if you can swing another one in size 33, might as well.

I find that while the front rise in the 710 is high, the back rise doesn't feel as relatively high... not that that is a bad thing.  for example the Roy R01 has a very high front rise and a very high back rise

Cosigned. I have the 710 in size 36x36. Front rise is 11.25", back rise is 15". The OA02 size 38 front rise is 12.5" and the back rise is just over 17" which is almost identical to the Roy R01 (Self Edge version 1 with cloth patch) size 36. I love the OA xx3 denim but prefer the fit of the 710 and R01.

If anyone is interested in a nearly new pair of 710 in size 36x36 (bought as one-wash), just write me a PM :)

Damn, I would have been interested if I hadn't snagged a pair in this size from BiG during their weekend sale.

    Cam

    i het measurements?

Hi Ed. Here are the raw measurements. I was told that the shirt will shrink 2cm-2.5cm in the chest and 4cm-5cm in length with a cold wash.

    Chest: 24.625" (62.5cm)

    Shoulder: 20" (50.8cm)

    Sleeve length: 26.5" (67.3cm)

Back length (from base of collar stand): 31.25" (79.4cm)

  13. I just took delivery on a Freewheelers Neal Cassady Rail Road Shirt in White Pepper Chambray, Size XL (17.5), non-wash. It is too big for me and will remain so even after a wash. Anyone here interested? I have the option of returning it, but figured I check if anyone here was looking to cop before doing so.

  14. I picture Max holding a sword to the heavens, crying out "By the power of Grayskull, I have the Power!!!" a la He-Man, lightning striking the sword, and his 710s going from deep indigo to righteous fades instantaneously. Crazy good fades and massive leg twist.
