  1. It's been 6+ months and we still don't have a thread for folks to show off their fancy masks!

I'll start us off: I just made a fresh batch yesterday that I'm really happy with; they're raw silk, with a herringbone twill interior and a slightly embellished basketweave exterior, and they're big enough to fit snugly but comfortably around a beard

Not all are yet strung, but I did dye 3 1/2 of them yesterday, one in brazilwood and the rest in trusty turmeric

The brazilwood was fun—I'd never dyed with wood before, and I don't think I let the liquor steep for as long as I should have; the result was less depth of color than I was hoping for (although much more than shows up in the photos, for whatever reason), but still a great shade

I have some fun masks from past months, but no photos on hand—will aim to take some this weekend, maybe

    Exhibit, complain, discuss

  2. Had some fun yesterday dyeing with brazilwood and turmeric

The color on the turmeric pair is pretty true (they're just a touch redder than shown), but capturing the color of the brazilwood pair was very difficult; they're redder and warmer than what's shown, closer to a sort of light peach

Also pictured: some of a fresh batch of masks, raw silk, not yet strung & finished

I may start a masks thread—seems funny that no one has, yet, now that I think about it

Wild how every single time I neg rep you for casual sexism (this is what, the third time? Fourth?) you go through the trouble of looking through my post history and finding 4–5 (edit: we’re up to 7, this time around) completely unrelated posts to neg rep as some sort of vengeance

You’ve really got something to prove, haven’t you

At least Ed had the decency to own up to being an ass & stand up for himself

  4. I have 3 pair Last & Loom boot socks from when they went up on the IH Outlet a few years ago—they were comfortable at first, but didn’t hold up well at all

Probably totally different production facilities, but something to keep in mind

  5. Has anyone here tried either of the new Self Edge collab jeans yet? Interested in any takes on the cut, particularly how much room there is up top

Looking like I’m gonna be in SF this Saturday; I’ll probably end up swinging by to try them on then ‘cause why not

  6. I agree that the whole thing seems absurd, but let’s not pretend we’re all too different—Duke, you’ve spent the last three months putting all your clothes up on mannequins in a specially-lit room just to take photos of them

Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly happy subscribing to this flavor of doublethink, and I’ve greatly appreciated the cataloging of all things Freewheelers, as I do most content posted here, but the argument does go both ways…

edit: All that having been said, let’s please, please never start posting “flat lays” on here

  7. I guess…? I don't think I've ever bought a waffle tee without trying it on, but if I were to do so my go-to would be looking at measurements for jersey tees from the same company to see what size I'd be in those, then just hoping that their sizing's consistent between materials—if you fit a L in standard Warehouse jersey tees, chances are whoever's doing their designing & drafting is competent enough to cut the waffle tees so that an L will fit similarly when all's said and done

  8. Just got a pair of Fracaps in! Thanks again to @sensy and @Elmer.Richard for sharing their pairs & making me aware of the brand

These'll be pretty much exclusively used for hiking, but not until after I've worn them walking around town for at least a few days to be sure they're comfortable & somewhat broken-in

No off-foot photos, yet…maybe once they've seen some actual wear

  9. Looks like all the Django shirts top out at around 24" in the sleeves, but I'm tempted to give one a go anyhow since I tend to roll up my sleeves anyhow when I'm working outside / trekking / whatever

Meanwhile, found a great linen Cushmans shirt on sale; it's tagged XL but the posted measurements (on Masuya 1997—thanks again for that tip) have the shoulders at 47 cm, which seems very small for an XL, even in Japanese sizing…any experience with Cushmans sizing? Does this seem realistic?

  10. Django Atour looks like exactly what I’m after, provided the sizing can be made to work (their measurements make the sleeves seem very short, but they may be measuring from the armpit rather than the shoulder—I’ll need to poke around and find some other sources)

Any experience with them, Duke? Know of anyone who carries them & is willing to deal with international shipping?

edit: Looks like Atelier Gardenia ships direct—this could be dangerous…

  11. Thanks for the recommendations so far—I’ve never liked Iron Heart much, but it seems like they could be an okay option for this; Indigofera could be good too

Freewheelers or Tender would be my top picks if they had anything like this currently available, but that doesn’t seem to be so

Also been thinking some about Sassafras

Pockets are a definite requirement (either one or two would be fine, the bigger the better, but not a fan of mismatched sizes / shapes)

    Keep ‘em coming!

  12. Who makes good linen or silk workshirts? My current go-to (a Tori Richards sample from a thrift store in Kailua Kona, I think) has treated me great but is starting to wear thin at the shoulders and elbows

Interested in something pretty lightweight to be worn on long hikes

Not limiting myself to "SuFu-approved" brands for this one, though I'd def. prefer ethical / small-scale production

  13. Agreed, really envious of that linen square-tailed shirt—would be perfect for hiking in, and it's aged beautifully

Here are some photos of the Type 430 Butterfly shirt in red-ochre-dyed airbag cambric, size 4

The fabric's really nice and stretchy, but this size is too slim for me in the shoulders (works great everywhere else)

    Also feat. Cane's and Birks

  14. They’re def. slim, but nowhere near TFH levels of slim

@Dan_F, I posted direct comparison photos between Ues and TFH flannels a couple pages ago, might be of interest to you
