once you get rid of the flasher, they'll look a lot better :)

Agreed. They're a little wide, but I don't personally think that it looks bad. I think the flasher is making it look far worse.

^ nice writeup and jeans. I really wish Self Edge still carried those...I really like the arcs on these...

Thanks, man! Yeah I'm with you. I wish they still had these...

  3. These aren't that faded, but they are the most faded jeans I have ever owned :P They are my 103bsp RJB jeans.

I've owned them for about 21 months, but they only have about 5 months of wear on them right now.

    Also, here's a link to a review of them I did because I am a shameless self-promoter.

Not that it's important or anything, but if someone's Instagram account is unsearchable (and only reachable through tagged photos), and unable to be followed, does this mean you've been blocked? Tapping the "follow" button makes a loading symbol appear for a split second, and I know it's not my Wi-Fi that's playing up. The pic below is related.

    lol

And why would Railcar want to block you? They aren't Simmons Bilt :D

    v. nice

like the csf w roys especially

    keep those csf evolving!

Thanks! Don't worry, the CSF jeans have officially become my new daily drivers. The jacket will get as much wear as I can give it once the weather cools off down here. CSF has made me fall in love with denim in a way I never thought I would. I've always been into boots and leather jackets more, but Konaka-San's work finally puts denim on that same level for me.

Setterman, your participation was laudable, no doubt. I hear what you are saying with regards to my infrequent posting. I do not recall what was said at the beginning, but regardless I personally abhor excessive posting with dozens of attached photos in message boards like SuFu, and will never participate in a contest to the extent that you have. (Side Note: Many threads are nearly impossible to navigate due to gluttonous posting of photos. Look at what has happened recently with Photobucket and the clutter it has left. Blah. Personally it would be my preference to have only significant changes documented, a cleaner more streamlined approach. Some people want to see how the sausage is made, some do not).

While I can understand the gripe you leveled, this was the 'Denim World Championship', not the 'Denim World Participation Championship'. The best pair (whatever the criteria) should win in the end regardless of level of participation. For the next contest, I wholly support a separate award for "Most Outstanding/Creative Documentation/Participation", though I'm sure I'll never win that category. This aspect of the contest is clearly valued in the community and should be acknowledged, but using it as a threshold for final consideration does not seem right to me.

(Edit: Some people are taking my comments as being rude, sore winning, or something else negative. That is not my agenda at all. I made light of this whole thing (though it was an inevitable topic of discussion) and there has been some needed discussion regarding transparency, criteria, etc. I chose only to respond to Setterman because the participation issue is something I disagree strongly on. Everything else that has been said is opinion/preference and there is nothing for me to respond to with opinion....)

It might make sense for Mega to start a new thread to discuss possible improvements to the DWC formula so this one can go back to its' original purpose.

I dunno.... When the guy who runs the contest says this: "I do agree with the point regarding participation, with hindsight I perhaps should have personally weighted this against any judgements. That is solely my fault, not judges or competitors." I think you should give up arguing about that point in particular. The only thing you have going for you is the fact that the criteria on which the fades were judged were obviously in your favor.

Your responses aren't helping you at all.

Stop trying to get us to agree with you...

My thoughts too. Besides, most people would simply follow the size charts. The model's size and fit of the clothes become irrelevant at this point.

Exactly. The normal Self Edge model is built nothing like me at all, but I don't mind. Like you said, the measurements are far more important.

Yes mate. With Thailand Turkey Hong kong Cuba Berlin and Amsterdam inbetween!  Live for those holidays!

Was about to ask you guys for recommendations outside of Tokyo? We are in Tokyo for about 7 days with a day in Yokohama. Looking to spend 2 nights elsewhere. Suggestions? We'll be pretty shopped out by then.

I would say something like Nagano or northern Japan for something more relaxing and beautiful instead of a major city.

Even without going to Flat Head, I would love to go back to Nagano. It's stunningly beautiful there.

Imo, End of March to April (Sakura season) & November (Autumn colors) is the ideal time to visit.

Not too hot/cold, granted I prefer winter over summer.

I would love to go in November for the next trip!

@Geeman nice! I can't wait to go again. It can't come soon enough. What cities are you heading to?

I don't believe that will be the case at all to be honest. I would hope, and sincerely believe, the people would inherently vote for the jeans they feel deserve to win, subjectively to them. Rather than the name they think deserves to win.

I haven't seen any person bias in the three years doing this so far, so I don't see why it would happen now.

If someone is more likely to vote for a name they recognise, over worn jeans they honestly prefer then that is a pretty messed up way to view a denim contest.

Either that or I'm wrong to trust that people in the denim scene are generally honest and good people, who would value participation and personal investment into their denim above voting for a name they know. That thought just seems off to me.

I said it would be a combination of name and denim brand. People can't be too objective. It's not humanly possible.

Kyoto would be the worst in summer since it's in a bowl.

I found Tokyo pretty tolerable in July, it was about 85 during the day and about 70 at night. Then again I'm used to Houston and Taiwan heat/humidity, so Japan in summer is downright refreshing by comparison. :P Just have to make sure you don't go and then a typhoon hits.

Yeah, Tokyo was by far the most tolerable. Osaka ended up being the hottest, but that was likely due to weather patterns and not its location.

No matter what, you can't wear anything more than a t-shirt and light jeans in that weather.

The nice thing is that they do have industrial grade air conditioners and flavored ice and such to keep you cool.

@onehitwonder Thanks for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

@greathoudini yeah if I had a choice, I would not have gone during the summer. Next time I will go in winter or spring.

I'm glad to see that this thread has sparked so much discussion and as such, I will be changing the title to something that reflects where the conversation has gone... btw... is that even something I can do? I don't see an option for it.

^pretty sure the registrant votes will still be biased if it's an open competition and not restricted to the same model/brand. if most of the people that enter wear ooe lvc or warehouse you can bet with good odds someone wearing samurai ironheart or nf will not win.

only way to make it fair is too have equal amt of judges from japan europe and north america lol

I was going to say that this sounds like an even worse proposition.

I'm a nobody here and as such, would have zero chance of winning if it was judged by participants.

The point about brands is also an important one to take into consideration on top of that.

If I wore a pair of WH Ranch and someone like Max wore a pair of Warehouse in the same category, who do you think is going to win? Heck, I myself am more inclined to vote for someone whose name and face that I recognize more.
