^ & ^^: Do they still make those? I was just on their page the other day to order some T-shirts, and I saw zero chambray anything. Seems like they used to have all sorts of different options. Would be interested in picking one up if they're still around, since I'll be paying the shipping either way…

They don't make them right now its seems, I actually haven't seen them in ages when looking at the Taobao shop.

Best thing about the shirt is the green tab that says "DONG" :D

I actually really liked my Bob dong I had (but sold because it didn’t fit me). Some really nifty details like how the sleeves was sown so that there was double fabric at the elbows. A very thought through construction.

^ This, I really enjoy mine too. Doubled up elbow and shoulders, triple chainstitched, lined cuffs and collar. Plus the fabric is great and gets better and better with wear'n'wash. One of my favourite shirts for sure.

The hardness of water will drastically affect how stiff something is when it comes out of a soak or wash. Here in my current city the water is hard. We have filters on the sink tap for drinking and most new homes probably install a water softening unit for the house.

Stuff comes out of the wash stiff as a board, even knit t-shirts unless I spin dry it, and/or or use a softening agent in the wash/soak.

I can't wait to move to a city with soft water again, I hate hard water for washing!

Yeah, my city's water is very hard, too - I'm using tabs in the machine for softening the water and dealing with the stupid high chalk grade in our tap water.

  4. ^ I think that's great, no chance to get disappointed if you don't find the one exact thing you're looking for, no stress with running around looking for it and you can just hang back and get surprised by pieces you don't have on your radar :)

You just made me realize that I never really looked at the tag of my '55 even after learning all about them constantly from this thread :D So these have been made in 09/96 I guess:

Mine have no slub or irregularities at all - color isn't accurate here and the smudge next to the fly is some dirt on my phone lense:

When I got them for really cheap all the seller had to say was that these were pretty old, washed once and then stored in the closet. I knew they're Valencia St. but not that they're that old.

Because the fabric and fit didn't appeal to me at all when I got them 4 years ago (in the beginning of my denim enthusiasm) I've just been wearing them at home, I stopped counting after 600 wears but it's a lot more than that now. They also got washed constantly because of dog and baby. Over time both the cut and the denim evo grew on me, they're no grail but I appreciate them a lot more. Shitty phone pics don't really show it (I'll have to take some better pics in daylight some time) but there's some nice subtle marbling. The once-red selvedge line is pure white now from all the washes.

    76! 76! 76!

would never have thought i would chant such a thing

    but

    76! 76! 76!

(for me, debating to wait for '37 or go for '33)

    ps

    76!

:D Yeah, I'm really happy with them, too. I like the '66 too, there's not much difference in the cuts besides the slightly more comfortable top block in the '76 (but I can't really judge that after only 6 wears for both jeans) but the denim is something else. The shade of indigo is different from all my other jeans right now and it has a "powdery" look that I really like.

  7. My 20s are packed and ready for shipping, but I think we can document what our ersatz jeans are up to while we wait for replacement, no? So here's a bartleTM dump of me and my daughter's playground excursion this AM, not a soul in sight and the bleak February morning would have made for post-apocalyptic vibes if my daughter hadn't lit up the place with toddler laughter.

  8. Unbranded is fine for the price but they're really low rise, check measurements first. I wore Unbranded when I discovered raw denim myself, I think I made it to 6 months of real time wear before I grew tired of their cut and the kinda boring denim, reading Sufu and seeing pictures of "better" denim doesn't help ;)

My recommendation is to not go for one of the cheap brands like Unbranded, take the plunge and maybe don't get an expensive The Flathead pair but something more reasonable priced. Pays off more in the long run.
