Word of Mouth - The Crust & Fades Contest
Jared_Lee replied to beautiful_FrEaK's topic in superdenim
Ran 89 back down through the Navajo Reservation and onto 64 into the Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday. We rode the south rim and checked a couple scenic overlooks. Then we headed down 64 S to Williams, AZ. We took the historic Williams, AZ train up to the park yesterday and walked the geology trail along the south rim. Headed out onto Route 66 today. It was a bit hazy both days at the canyon and very hard to do it justice in photos anyway, but here are a few. My partner took the train photos. I'll try to have them send a few over to post later on. The train was fun. A bit of song and dance for entertaining the digital generation, but cool to ride in vintage cars from the '20s and '30s pulled by a nearly complete original locomotive from the '20s that fits the models that carried people to the canyon for decades before the ubiquity of the automobile. Its resurrection in the late '80s after two decades out of commission revitalized the town of Williams and kept it from being wiped off the map.- 1124 replies

@julian-wolf, We took the big roads from Vegas to Zion, 15 out of Vegas to get to Valley of Fire and then 9 off of 15 to get out to Zion. Today we left Zion and ran 59 out of Utah onto 389 in Arizona to 89a to go through Kaibab National Forest, down into Marble Valley and up to Page on 89. Postcard views the entire ride.- 1124 replies

@vIGGiou riou, it's been amazing so far. Nothing compared with the views and experience you get backpacking it like @julian-wolf, but stunning nonetheless. As a fun aside, a young woman shouted me out as the "best dressed man on the trail" yesterday. Lol. We're heading to Page, AZ getting our first glimpse of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon over the Historic Navajo Bridge today.- 1124 replies

Through a second proper wash. They're doing what jeans do. I was surprised when people initially said these were fast faders. I certainly haven't experienced that. Interesting to see how that opinion has shifted. I'd put them in the neither fast nor slow, but just normal jeans in that regard. In fact, that's what I love about this pair so much. It's just a standard, no frills '50s straight that I oversized for fit. They're fading that way too. We're about to head out to Vegas, Zion, Grand Canyon, Route 66 and back to Vegas on a motorcycle trip next week. Should be fun to see how the road wear through the desert affects them. For now, here's some post-wash photos in the best light I've been able to get lately, admittedly not good. Haha.- 1124 replies

My condolences, @bartlebyyphonics. Lovely to get a glimpse into your world. Inspiring rivers of thought you're wading in. -
@MJF9, that's when it becomes a warmer day t-shirt only jacket. Looks great!

Nothing much to show on my end. These are nights and weekends only so not much heavy wear. I really like the fit and fabric though. The way I oversized them has left me with a lot of room in the hip and seat making for very comfortable cycle commuting, but being a true '50s cut they are still pretty straight through the hip which I like. I'm going longer between washes right now because of the light wear. I haven't washed at all since the start and likely won't until late March or April. We'll see how that changes as the weather warms up and it gets into motorcycle season.- 1124 replies

Plugging along through a very cold New York winter. Not the lighting to show any denim progress, though there also really isn't much to report as these are off-hours only. But overall loving the fit and feel. It never feels like a chore to reach for these in the morning getting dressed and they've styled well into everything I've tried with them.- 1124 replies

Pretty sure 19 is a Tommy Guerrero album. Don't know the title. 4 is Digable Planets, but again I'm terrible with album titles.

Apologies, I was not meaning to say that size to size they should be the same (30 in both are not the same measured size necessarily), just that the proportions for the true size are intended to be the same. It's the same pattern. That being said, I don't even know for sure what sizes I have. I think I have 13.7oz in 31 and SS in 32? Again, when you're playing a game of 1cm here or there on a measuring tape, you're playing to satisfy your own neurosis, not a distinguishable fit difference at five feet. I am not intending to devalue your desire to know those things and satisfy yourself, but the net result after three minutes of wear is nothing to anyone but you when discussing a completely wide legged relaxed fit. If you're wearing Iron Heart 666's, that 1 cm could mean the difference between maintaining an ability to continue your bloodline or not.

@indigoeagle, they're not meant to be. I notice no significant difference between them. You can literally measure the same cloth garment five times and come up with a variance of 1cm. Don't overthink it.
