  1. What's everyone's opinion on the state of denim and "heritage" related shops in 2017? Seems like there has been some rather seismic shifts going on where some brands/retailers are closing down, inventory movement seems slow, and others are moving away from denim and "heritage" related apparel i.e. BiG. Not too mention the over saturation of stores popping up to fill the same niche even when raw denim thing has died down compared to a few years ago.

Just curious as to how our favorite shops are holding up since it looks rough in the foreseeable future.

  2. Ha, I need to read more carefully because I actually checked BiG and must have overlooked that page. Might have to ask if there's a natural taper fit since tight taper looks to be a bit tight for me.

    Thanks

  3. Anyone got fit pics of the malibu cowboy jacket? Some of the fits I've seen make it seem that the sleeve's width is huge.

Also the Veste Ménilmontant is really catching my eye. Great fabrics used and sizing seems golden. Also sleeve buttons seem non-functional which is another big plus.

I should also mention, the shop was broken into twice in the last few weeks so no doubt S&S are dealing with a lot right now. Asking for your patience and understanding in the meantime before I set up the final submissions thread and give all the details!

Whhhaaattt. That sucks. Anything we can do to help?

Will post up pics of the contest jeans later today since last day of Sept. and all.

^Tbh for me, as great as that cut looks, i wouldn't get it because it's only been released since SOC's rebrand, which really made them fall off the radar for me. Prior to 2016 or whenever the change happened, SOC's detailing was amazing—the old patches were *so* cool, their greencast denim was totally in a class of its own, and the back pocket design was distinctive enough to set it apart from other brands imo. On the other hand, the new pocket stitching and belt loops look sort of contrived, not to mention that their new denim looks way more irregular and less vintage-y than the lovely denim the old models came with.

Wait, what? Rebrand? First hearing this. Thought they were just introducing new models and whatnot with old models in tack. Agree with Cuccoo that the 340's can be a nice slim straight pair but I really do wish they fixed the wonky waist thing they have going on or at least explain the concept behind it.

I agree the previous denim were better especially since the current Caligosta iterations are sanforized. That being said, I do like the pocket stitching and belt loops since it gives it a nice western/cowboy feel. Helps that I'm in Texas so your mileage may vary.

  6. Am I the only one not too enthused on Roy's shirts? Presumably it's well made with some bells and whistles but the fabrics didn't look particularly interesting to me. I think they're a great basic, no frills type of shirt but the price is pretty steep imo for what it is. What separates Roy from say, Freewheelers or Flat Head?

Anyone with Roy's shirts wanna chime in on why they like his shirts?

  7. Denimio: Legit and a big go-to site for a good chunk of people.

Mister Freedom: build and quality are solid. I think some of his choices lately have been boring but I have a good amount of MF stuff that I don't regret at all.

Hope this is the right place to pose this question, I'm looking for something with a similar fit to 3sixteen's ST-120x.  Of all the pairs I own, this one seems to work the best in terms of fit for me.  I also currently own a pair of Samurai s710xx and Strike Gold 3109 and the 3sixteen pair are a nice in between.  According to the measurements on Self Edge's website (unless I'm reading something incorrectly), the 3sixteen pair should have a narrower knee/leg opening than the Strike Gold pair, but comparing the two, the opposite is actually the case.  What I'm look for is something with a low to medium rise with a slim leg and just a slight taper, somewhere in the 14oz - 19oz range.

If it matters, my inseam is between 28" and 30", could make a difference as far as the knee/leg opening are concerned.

Have you tried looking at Flat Head's 3012, Sugar Cane 2014 jean, and maybe Stevenson's 340 CALISTOGA jean. Though the Stevenson's have a big waist which requires a belt and is sanforized. Also have a look at Mister Freedom over on his site. Has a nice mix of straight and slim straightish cuts.

  8. A quick and easy wash? Plus if you're jeans are falling apart, then putting them in the washer might rip those holes open more. Also, I personally wouldn't put them in with my other non-indigo/raw clothes if only out of a paranoid fear of indigo crocking in any capacity (no matter how old the jeans are or how many washes they've already gone through).

  9. I actually find there are a lot of stores stocking Stevenson now compared to like 2012 or so. For Japanese, you can try green angle or empty garage but really most of the sites I've found I dug through a google search either just by typing in stevenson overall co or the specific item I wanted.

  10. 1) I remembered to take pictures!  So picture heavy below.

    2) Gah! Another forum change. Too much space used up imo.

Up down to the mountains of Cali I went again. Kinda funny how in all my life I've only been to California 3 times and 2 of those times were in the last two months. Just helping me paw out a bit with his farming business with whatever little things he needs e.g. surveying, dirt work, planning, etc. Great scenery here even if it's your typical mountains moutains hills hills rocks rocks shrubs shrubs with a dash of fog kind of country scenery. It was dreadfully windy and rainy when I visited and was still like that when I left. The rain can do a bit on these roads where it looks like traces of little rivers are all around the ground. I liked it. I wouldn't want to live there but it was good.

Also got to go to Mister Freedom since the last time I visited LA I forgot about doing that. Just wanted to look at some of the 10th anniversary stuff and left with my first N1-H deck jacket. It's super nice, if pricey.

Also I will say that the fit charts on MF is pretty accurate and that the blousen de quart measurements from SE charts are kinda misleading insofar it's bulky inside and not too roomy. Or at least for me. I was told the alpaca will settle down and lay flatter though. Definitely something you have to try on to see if it works for you. Anway, pics:
