  1. freenote gold corduroy jacket (not on any sale/discount though), Style eyes argyle jacket and okinawas.

question: if I bought a shirt two days before thanksgiving/black friday that was now available at a 30% discount, should I make a ruckus to the shop or is that just bad timing on me? I actually e-mailed them already and waiting to see what they say. Just wondering if it's worth pursing again later next week if I hear nothing.

  2. Also got to FINALLY visit SELA and some other shops. It was worth the trip and lived up my expectations. Got to try on a few things which was very nice from just looking at a website and the measurements. Learned a few things there:

Lofgrens short engineers won't work on me D:

I needed one size bigger than I thought in the Stevensons Ranch jacket

Those Nine Lives jackets are insane but anything leather tops will just not work on me ):

Tried on the Okinawas and think I'm going to snatch them during the sale. The denim on it is really something to behold. Also also! people should go try to visit any of the SE locations one day as there's a good handful of things in store that aren't online (yet. Maybe).

  3. Inspired by my trip to LA last week and rayw44's post here's a look at my neighborhood and workplace. Not much but I thought it was adequate. I've always been interested as to how folks anywhere live and just how familiar and different it all is. Roads, highways, streets, houses, landscape, shops, anything related to the everyday and ordinary in a person's day to day life. I think it's all interesting. Might have to take some pics of the really tall and numerous highways here in Texas sometime.

Welcome to Texas! Walmart near my home. Price here is lower than the city and national average. Crazy how it's $2.50 over in LA and in the place I was staying 3 bucks.

Compared to SoCal, Texas is prettttttty flat and nowhere near as much trees (at least in North Texas). Also compared to the home the workplace neighborhood is of the working/middle class. Nothing bad really especially since it's near (small) downtown. Reminds me of some of the LA neighborhoods but with more space and less people.

The jeans! Yup, still stubborn. Washed several days ago and I think the fades are more pronounced in person if albeit still subtle.

  4. Would love to hear what you think of those, Aries. Lofgren's the only engineers that has ever tempted me but me thinks it would look a bit chunky/clunky for my style. Though I am having more and more straight-ish fits going on now...

Agreed with darn tough socks. Would also suggest wigwam as they have lasted me for some years now.

  5. Ha! I love the approach spunkey. That and the front fly length mentioned over in reflections are really great fodder to the list of why "I like me some japanese jawns". Little details to geek over.

  6. Six months coming up! Been super busy the past two months and once more going into October. Wish I did cool stuff during the summer but I oddly enough might have a week or two off in October. Echoing others saying it's still pretty damn dark. Subtle and complex indeed. Crotch is also wearing through a bit.

Think my pair has maybe 9+ washes now.

  7. How big of a difference are the 721bsp and 711bsp from one another in the thigh?

For a size 33, SE has the thigh at 12.5 inches for 711 while the 721 have it at 12.6 inches. Are they similar/same at the top while the 711 tapers near the knee/thigh?

  8. Ah, I should mention length isn't really that big off a problem but more so the space around my ankle/heel. It's probably just gonna take some time getting used to since it's soft, flexible canvas covering most of the feet and not stiff hard leather. We'll see though.

  9. LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO ME.

I now have four things by Kapital: Fruit Shunga Bandana - Orange via standard and strange, Okabilly century denim sumi via blue in green, Okabilly Kakishibu century denim and indigo and black big officer (?) boots (not sure what the boots are called) via Jon of bandanna almanac.

Thanks to Jon for the proxy and redragon for the impetus and some sizing questions.

Posting the boots since that pretty much started my little craze and I don't see too much info/pics about them. Link for those interested. Album so the page can actually load quick.

Size US 9 in most sneakers and I went with a size 2, the smallest size they had. E-mailed Jon sometime in late July and got these in this Tuesday.

I LOVE the look of the shoes. Very fashion forward but still reigned in enough that it's not too out there. My type of jam. Love the contrast between the canvas and leather. Speaking of which, I'm not sure what the leather is but it's lightly brushed (?) and waxed/burnished at the toe. A nice touch. Also love and hate the hooks. It looks nice but it takes a damn while to hook on. I probably nail down a technique later on and that won't be a problem. The stitching looks very tight and neat. No loose threads and the stitching pattern is consistent.

Now back to sizing. The width is fine but the length is probably a good half inch longer. Not necessarily a bad thing since I do like some space but it feels oddly "loose." Just more ankle room that I'm comfortable with I suppose due to the canvas. It could also be that's just how the shoe is designed and/or because of a possible mis-sizing. I'm thinking the former but if it's the latter and if I'm not satisfied I cut my losses and have these up on grailed or something.

    Fit pic:

  10. In rotation with my ooes, however, the ooes are getting much more wear. Like 6 out of the 7 days I wear the ooes. I probably start wearing my geishas more after summer since it's brutally hot and humid here. Hopefully then I can post some decent pics.

  11. AE isn't too bad at all honestly especially if you're not gonna wear them too often. Their customer service is also excellent so if there's a problem just hit them up and they take care of you.

But yeah, if you're not in the normal width that's pretty restricting unless you go with a MTO route. How big do you need to go?

Also give ebay and grailed a look through if you don't mind used. Carminas, trickers, alfred sargent, etc in varying sizes can be had for cheap.

  12. davidwirey: depends what your other jeans are to compare the top block. Not tight but not particularly roomy either in my experience but obviously different body types, etc.

  13. T-t-they're just jeans! pls no bully

memes aside, I honestly find it odd that people are focusing on this brand's marketing when you could have just ignored altogether. It was never in your face nor had any hype prior to its release. Superdenim doesn't seem like it's their demographic so why make a fuss?

  14. @redragon,can we have a photo in natural light? Looks cool.

It's no problem having a negative opinion if you don't like Shinki's shell after having used or handled it. Calling it inferior because a couple of guys at Horween told you so? There's informed opinion, and then there's hearsay.

Er, I don't think he said it was inferior because of what Horween said. Just what others have said who have handled it at other forums and via meermin.
